When one prays for the Intercession of a Saint, how do we know they did it??

Okay, ran out of space in the heading but what I wonder about is what if one were praying for the intercession of a Saint, a Blessed or other holy person... what if that miracle or favor were to happen... how can it be attributed to the specific Saint or person in question?

For example, I will use a well known recently canonized Saint. What if I pray for St. John Paul II to intercede for me but what if I am also going to Mass to pray (Lord, hear our prayer), I say a Rosary frequently and maybe I pray to other Saints as well for their intercession....

How can I feel like St. John Paul II (or maybe he is called St. John Paul the great, I think I've heard that) how can I feel like He interceded vs. the Rosary, prayer at Mass or a prayer to St. Francis for example?

I wonder how the Vatican decides this because I would rarely think people pray only for an intercession from one person.

From what I've seen, usually the accepted miracle is a very specific case of intercession, like someone used a relic of the (soon to be) saint, and did all their praying for healing through the intercession of that saint. You can still pray the rosary or to Jesus and offer those prayers through the particular intercession of a saint.
