Actually I am racking my brains but I think the Baltimore Catechism gives a list of sins against the Holy Spirit. I am trying to remember; one of them is not telling the Truth in Confession, trying to hide our sins. It scared me a little. I don't quite recall when I heard about these things.

I think I will re listen to it again tonight.

It is a bit of an eye opener. I might ask my priest about some of these things to check.

By the way the Baltimore Catechism is not just an American thing. It was also published in Ireland and Britain. I recall it as a child, we called it, 'The Penny Catechism', over here and was derived from the Catechism of the Council of Trent.

Same authors. It is a question and answer format. Great for learning off.

I found it fun to discover if I knew the answers. Many of which I recall learning as a very small child.:):)

I grew up learning from the Baltimore Catechism, roughly 25 years ago :). A good solid Catholic education.

Did you remember that there are Catechetical homilies by the Cure of Ars at the back? I didn't, they are lovely.:)

It troubles me that a lot of the teachings in this , I haven't heard mentioned in Church for many, many years. I maybe should not be surprised at this, but I am. Sad.

I was interesting, for instance to hear about, 'Limbo', once again.

The Cure of Ars was one of my mom's very favorite saints, so I read many of his sermons as a child. I was just teaching my son about him yesterday, in fact!

So what is the 5th sin that cries out for vengeance? I can't think of more than 4. I know the sins against the Holy Spirit are in a different category.

Limbo is such an interesting thing... I don't know what to think of the Church formerly saying it existed but now saying it doesn't. I do know--for those believing in Medjugorje --that when Mirjana asked Mary if babies who die before baptism go to Limbo, Mary said there is no Limbo, and that the babies are there in Heaven with her. I suppose Limbo was one of those concepts the Church felt plausibly existed and was helpful for encouraging parents to baptize their babies as quickly as possible? But it was never declared true Ex Cathedra.

I think there are actually only 4.

I believe the above link provided by Joan J is the most scary link I have ever listened to, in regard to the direction the world is headed; if Canada goes down this road (could be true!), then totalitarian rule is at its doorsteps! No wonder Trudeau was so gleeful about the Great Reset! Canada would be leading the way! Mark Mallet, tell me it ain't so. This is so insane it must be a lie?

Please hold all this in your prayers!

Yes, four sins cry to Heaven for vengeance:
    Murder (Gn. 4:10)
    Sodomy (Gn. 18:20-21)
Oppression of the poor (Gn. Ex. 2:23)
Defrauding workers of their just wages (Jas. 5:4)
There are six sins against the Holy Spirit:
    Despair
    Presumption
    Envy
    Obstinacy in sin
    Final impenitence
Deliberate resistance to the known truth
I cheated and lifted the above from Catholic Answers: https://www.catholic.com/qa/what-ar...or-vengeance-and-sins-against-the-holy-spirit

I was surprised to see envy listed as a sin against the Holy Spirit.

Interesting. Thanks for the info! Our pastor actually gave a sermon a few weeks ago about envy/jealousy. It can wreck your vocation. I think it also ties in with Thou shalt not covet.
    Good info, Dolours.

    Dolours,

One description of envy...it is most often used to refer to a covetous feeling toward another person's attributes, possessions, or stature in life.

In this sense, envy is focused on being left out of those things that are worldly...earthly concerns that drown out the call of Christ:

Matthew 6:19 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

I thought that envy and jealousy were the same. I recall learning the seven deadly sins listed in the old Catechism as: Pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy and sloth. Note that both envy and covetousness are on the list but jealousy isn't.
