I have just read that in a class project in London a group of 11-16 year olds have developed a smart condom. It reacts to contact with bacteria in STIs and glows with diagnostic colours; green for chlamydia, yellow for herpes, purple for HPV and blue for syphillis. I wonder what other rainbow colours will appear on contact with bacteria from the 'reward' within the pervert. Romans 1.27. I wonder what condition the red on the whitehouse rainbow represents. Four justices wrote dissents from the Supreme Court's decision legalising same-sex marriage throughout the US, but the ones by Justice Antonin Scalia and Chief Justice John Roberts were stylistic counterpoints.

Mr Scalia flashed anger, railing against an elitist majority on the Supreme Court who were imposing their values on "320 million Americans coast-to-coast".

"They are willing to say that any citizen who does not agree with that, who adheres to what was, until 15 years ago, the unanimous judgment of all generations and all societies, stands against the Constitution," he writes.

He called the decision a "judicial Putsch" and "a threat to democracy", in which the majority discovered a right to marriage that all the US legal minds before them had overlooked.

By broadening its interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment equal protection of the law guarantee to include a universal right of same-sex marriage, he argued, the Court has given itself unlimited power. "It stands for nothing whatever, except those freedoms and entitlements this Court really likes," he writes.

I notice with some sadness and dismay , that with the recent profound moral changes in the moral and legal foundations of Western Societies a change in myself.

This return to Classical Paganism has removed a certain child like innocence in myself. Whereas before I used to have a certain trust that everyone I met would be basically a good person and could be trusted, I find now a sense of isolation and threat, of feeling very, very much a member of a moral minority and under threat. There has grown up in my heart a deep seated cynicism about society and people around me. Whereas before my heart went out to everyone I encountered , now there is now a kind of bitter cynicism and distrust. In my heart I ask myself the question , 'Is this person a new Pagan..can I trust them.? Will this person seek to persecute me? Is he/she an enemy?'

Worst of all I am not at all sure if this way of encountering the world is fundamentally Christian.

I am deeply challenged by this as this kind of attitude is so wholly unfamiliar to me.

I know St Paul said, 'Come out from amongst them' , and I also know from scripture that Light can have no truck with Darkness.

Painful times much to pray over. I dread my own cynicism and am afraid of becoming a modern Pharisee . Difficult times and a difficult path to walk.

Holy Spirit of God guide us in these so difficult times.

Strange how, like yourself Padraig, within the last hour I had written to a friend lammenting lost innocence in my life. The words above are those of Albert Camus, a French Philosopher, writer and atheist. Literally it means ''there is more in mankind to admire than to despise." Or in other words it expresses a belief that human beings are basically good. A remarkable world view for anyone never mind an atheist. He lived in pretty hard times so he probably would not have changed his view today. Three ISIS attacks today, France, Kuwait and Tunisia, three lots of innocents dead. Then we have the dreadful loss of innocence as an entire nation is distanced from the safety of truth by one stroke of the pen of its law makers. I suppose we tend to stop short as we plumb the depths of the human psyche. We stop st the darkness thinking the worst. But Camus would say that if we go on through the valley of the shadow of death we will arrive at the light that causes this shadow. There can be no shadow without light. Sometimes in the dark it feels there is no end to it. I suppose thst's where faith comes in. Sometimes its not even our own faith that pulls us through but the faith of others. Thats where friends are important. They have faith in us. They put their faith in us. Even moreso when these friends are part of a community of Faith such as The Catholic Church. This blog is such a community and I am grateful for the friendship and tolerance shown here. Tolerance, patience and kindness. This is not couched in the sickly sweet sentiment of greeting cards but the genuine sharing of personal conviction as we work our way closer to the truth. From what I have seen, at least on this site, Camus was right. We are o.k. and getting better. Keep the faith Padraig. You are not alone. Just remember we're all here cause we're not all there. But we're getting there and we are getting there together.

 

I suppose Joe there is no hard in being in a fury about all this.

It always amazes how often grumpy, difficult, nasty old people are still greatly loved. (Dont look at me) Its like just how mums make allowances for their children so also youngsters make allowances for the oldies. I don't know you Padraig but from what I've seen you seem to be a decent carmudgeon. Folks are fine. And you seem fine to me. No harm at all in being in a fury about all of this. First Ireland then America. No wonder we are angry. St Paul says be angry but do not sin. So lets be angry and feel ok about it for a while.

Well, Padraig, that got me looking at my bible. What's Maccabees about. Its all there from Galilee to Rome. Politics, Persecution, rebellion, different beliefs, sacrifice,defeat victory and peace. I have just skimmed thru it. Written by Jason of Cyrene. I wonder if his descendant was Simon. Written only 160 years before Christ. I love the way Jason the author ends: "I shall bring my own work to an end here too. If it is well composed and to the point, that is just what I wanted. If it is worthless and mediocre, that is all I could manage. Just as it is injurious to drink wine by itself, or again water alone, whereas wine mixed with water is pleasant and produces a delightful sense of well being, so skill in presenting the incidents is what delights the understanding of those who read the book. And here I close."
So that's the secret to a happy life, a good story and a glass of wine. I'm convinced, glug glug. ( Thats the sound of wine coming out of the bottle.) I see why you were interested in this part of the bottle oops I mean bible.

I was contemplating the Seven Sorrows of Mary this morning. When contemplating on the mysteries where Mother Mary had to witness the brutality that her Son had to endure was because of our sins from the beginning. I can't read another article about this ruling (and I only read 1!) because of the comments afterwards. The hate of so called Christians who defend this ruling basically becomes 'I will not serve!'. They don't even realize they are serving the other side. This is why Jesus suffered so much. The thought of a soul believing that there are no rules is fine but don't do it under the guise of being united to God's will. The sadness is the loss of souls who are blindly running to hell and insist on it and get out of their way because they are not changing. I have been begging God please send the warning to wake up some souls and I think I'm so sad of heart because it feels like evil just keeps winning. I know this is temporary but there is not joy to be found, just peace in the hope of being with Our Father in Heaven one day.

The Maccabees were a large family of Jews who lived at the time of the Syrian occupation of their country. The rulers were Greeks who followed Alexander the Great about 140 years before the birth of Jesus.

It is very similiar to our own times in that the invaders tried to impose their pagan culture on the Jews and the Jews led by the Maccabees took up the sword to fight and finally defeat them.

I was thinking of the Maccabees because there may come a time too when we have to take up the sword against these New Pagans.

That is a beautiful post Joe. A while back I posted a picture of a young Jewish girl hiding in an attack from nazis on another page and just kept looking at it, saying to myself, do I really believe this?

Just think how Lot and his family felt as everyone around them was practicing Sodomy. Where at least in our culture today only 1-2% practice Sodomy, even though as many as 60% of society may support it. It all comes back to our culture climate clinging to tolerance and nonjudgmental mindset as if this is the new dogma of the world. The worst part is the majority in the Church today have bought the lie as well. If not by the grace of God we may think the same way.
