A few years back I remember a New York taxi driver who found a very large sum of money in his cab and gave it all back. I think it was something like 25000 Dollars and being very impressed. Anyway a new guy in work was talking with me and I mentioned the story and he laughed in disbelief. Curious I asked if he had found the money would he have turned it in? He just laughed incredulously and said of course he wouldn't that anyone who handed in the money was insane. He asked if I would hand such money in and when I said I would he again looked in disbelief. He simply did not believe me. A thief thinks everyone else is dishonest. A prostitute thinks people only have sex on their minds. A liar thinks the world spins the truth. We judge the rest of the world by our own standards. Now I did not mind so much that the guy said he would not return the money. I guess most people would have held on to it. But it was the fact he did not have to even think twice about it. It would never for a second have crossed his mind to do so. This gave me a great insight into the newcomer. I knew at that second his conscience was stone dead. Killed by repeated ignoring of its poor voice. I knew I was dealing with a very,very bad dude indeed and from then I avoided him. Within a few months everyone in the building was staying clear of him. It is amazing how with just a few words we can reveal our entire soul.
