Thoughts on evil

  1. I had a “spiritual attack” back in November. I dont want to go into detail because I worry about the seeds of such things, but afterwards, I have been left with a completely different impression of evil.

For some reason, I always thought of evil as being “hot” which was why hell is hot. I’m kind of a simple person and it made sense; the devil is red, surrounded by flames, and when you get caught up with him you get “burned” and if you stay with him you burn--eternally.

After my experience, I now feel that evil is very, very, cold, like deep space, black-hole, empty, lifeless, nothingness cold. I used to feel kind of sorry for lucifer, victim of pride and all, but there is nothing there to feel sorry for, it’s like feeling sorry for an ice cube.

In contrast, God is love, warmth and light. He never changes, He “Is”. His holy fire penetrates all souls. The soul in a state of grace draws closer as it purifies, eventually reaching heaven. The soul empty and cold without grace, retreats, never purifies, only burns.
Any thoughts? Am I way off?

After my physical attack by a demon I could only describe "it" as black, perverted, hatred. It was very heavy and hated my guts. I shudder just remembering. I agree that satan is nothingness which makes him "is not". He is the epitome of "nothing", just empty.

Hi Pincone, have you ever read Dante's Inferno? It's an old classic. Your post about Satan being an ice cube reminded me of a particular section toward the end of the book.

After the poet Virgil guides the author through the different levels of hell, they finally come to the last one, smack in the center. There, they see Satan frozen in ice up to his chest. As Satan beats his wings, it stirs up cold. On a side note, Satan has three faces and three mouths. He keeps himself busy by chewing on Judas and a couple of other guys (I can't remember their names). It's just a story, but who knows, there could be some truth to it.

  4. Hi little me, "is not" is so true. I guess my expectation of evil was that it would be more "obvious", like scary, bloody or painful. This was all psychological and way off the scope. I'm not actually "scared" of it, I "shun" it if that makes any sense.
Hi Rain, (looks like you might be from the west coast?) I have heard of the Inferno, but never read it. It is interesting that satan was depicted in ice, I haven't heard that before, just eternal fire and burning.
    Poor Jesus, going there.
He loves us more than we could ever imagine.

I don't think it is any accident that the Church when it looks for Exorcists in its ranks looks for holy and wise men.

For if we cannot even recognise evil when we discover it how will we be able to fight it when it appears?

In his book , 'Hostage to the Devil' Fr Martin relates as a very young priest being called to the death bed of a young prostitute in Brooklyn New York. The Madam of the establishment let him in readily enough but as he prepared to give the Last Rites a man appeared and said quite simply,

'You can't have her , she is mine'

The young Fr Martin left hurriedly surmising he was up against more than he suspect handle I think correctly)

What I am saying is the true evaluation of evil usually comes with age and experience. I liked your understanding of this Pine cone it was insightful

I think of people as often being either fires (like the saints) or freezers (like psychopaths) . Some people being takers some givers. Most of us fiddle along in between somewhere.

It is fascinating. I wish I had more time to write on all these wonderful posts. I hope to get back to this.

  6. Yes, Padraig, exactly. It was not at all what I had imagined or been taught. It was a terrible cold nothingness. I could be all wrong about hell being how lost souls react to God's Holy purifying fire, but it makes more sense to me than a punishing God who tortures idiots who follow satan by burning them forever.
(Incidentally, my great grandfather was Francis Padraig Herraher (Herraher being an English abstraction of a family name with too many r's and g's from Tipperary) We called him Paddy and he loved port, puns and me and lived till he was 98. I miss him)
    Stay warm.

    Hi
Hi Pinecone. I read years ago about the 3 days of darkness and one of the things said was that there would be a dreadful cold. It would become so cold that rocks would split. I never could imagine that until what you say in your post. It makes sense now - hell would be emptied at tat time and they would bring the awful cold with them.

I believe you, recently I had some 'attention' while writing on 'bonejacking' and exorcism which I put on the net. A black 'flash' disrupting me while writing but the freezing cold (like being in a cold storage freezer) is what I noticed the most.
It cant physically hurt you but will try to scare you silly. Just hang tough, make the sign of the Cross to the west and say 'begone afar unholy ones'.
Say prayers aloud, praise God aloud.
Remember just because you can't see the demon it doesn't mean they can't hear you.

Again Leon I am uncertain about some of these things, for instance the necessity of making a Sign if the Cross, 'To the West'? This use of compass points in part of New Age Witchcraft practice. ..and without invoking the name of Jesus specifically I am not sure how simply telling demons to begone is going to do it.

I am concerned about this and other things, for instance I am not sure how much contrition and compunction you are showing about your involvement in Satanism and how deep you conversion is. So again I am going to ask that you leave of conversations on the occult.
