Politics is such a mystery. I love it that people in politics care for the poor and marginalised. Yet the very people who seem to care most in politics about these things seem to be the very same ones who are off the chart in issues of Christian morals. So sad. Look at Social Work or Head Shrinkers for instance. So often good hearts and crazy, crazy moral compasses. Go figure.

I remember you wanting our opinion on his statement, so here is mine. I do believe that it is good that the pope stated this BUT this is more of the same thing that he continues to do. The pope won't put a lot of these good things in writing and he continues to allow his confusing statements to stand in writing. I do believe that the most serious of various examples of this is this one regarding AL and the fact that he made the Buenos Aires bishop's interpretation of AL (chapter 8) magisterial. He can say whatever he likes in an interview but he needs to put these statements in writing. I believe that he provided some encouragement to the German bishops by formally accepting the BA bishop's interpretation of AL/8. I realize that the pope has made some negative statements about the German bishop's synod but I still believe that he is somewhat responsible for what is occurring there. I will also provide two other examples of when Pope Francis should have formalized corrections of past statements/actions of his. I remember when Bishop Schneider asked him about the Abu Dubai brotherhood document. Pope Francis stated that he was referring to the passive will of God allowing other religions but yet the pope would not move forward with a formal correction to the document. Of course, the other example is actual multiple examples consisting of almost every time that he sits for an interview with his atheist friend Scalfari and Scalfari comes out with some horrid statement that he heard from the pope but yet Pope Francis never corrects him. We are in need more than bread crumbs and that is all the pope is giving us. I do believe that this is all part of our chastisement though. We need the Truth put in plain and simple terms. PS - I also wondered if the pope might be having a bit of a change of heart because the German bishops appear to be going off the rails along with all of the other issues that have been brought to light recently (the Pachamas being thrown in the Tiber, for example) but I still would like to see Pope Francis be far more clear and to put these corrections that I have highlighted in writing. Carol, with respect to your post above in response to my comment about that 'clarification' of AL by Pope Francis, I must apologise because I was being a bit ironic with the whole issue. It would be wonderful if this is what he sincerely meant, but all he's doing is contradicting himself and confusing people. At this point, I am resigned to confusion and perhaps it is better than out-and-out direct and unambiguous heresy. Nevertheless, there are many being deceived by all this hedging on the truth. I think Judgement will come down much harder on the deceiver than on the deceived. It is becoming much more difficult for the sheep to know what sin is and isn't when so many of their shepherds are presenting them with so many false ideas, particularly if they haven't been taught the Faith in the first place. From the posts above, an unformed person might be easily conned into thinking that to heat their home might be sinful, while a priest being complicit in murdering another (which is what 'accompanying' a suicide actually amounts to ) is doing good. The madness of the progressives. They say there is a 'climate emergency', but continue moving millions from the warm South to the cold North, where much more coal and oil will have to be burned in order to keep them from dying of the cold in the winter.
