At first, I objected to the impression given by the pastel colors chosen. It seems to me that, in Ireland and in this time of renewed clerical crisis, this is NOT the best choice. In fact, it is completely tone deaf. Or is it? Then the comments started coming in about the symbols on the vestments. “Maybe, so, maybe not,” I thought. But wait. There’s more. I got an email from a reader who said that the swirly symbol is quite like the – blech blech blech – symbol used on the flag – even they have a flag – of the BDSM types(Bondage Discipline Sado-Masochism). He said I would find the symbol at the wikipedia site for BDSM. DO NOT GO THERE. I found it. Blech. Here it is. In two forms. I don’t even want to post their graphic file, so I will make a screen shot instead. I had also posted about the Italian proverb that, “Il diavolo non può nascondere le corna… The Devil can’t hide his horns.” In fact, the Devil doesn’t want to hide them. That's what I thought when I saw them. Years ago I had a dress not unlike the dusky pink one on the right. Maybe that's not the actual colour in real life.
I hope you are right. The other possible meaning, as Fr Z's readers mentioned, is nauseating, especially when interpreted together with the effeminate colours of the vestments.
That WMF had the whiff of a homo jamboree about it from the get-go. From the look of them, the vestments do fit that theme. Nevertheless, although I'm only speculating and could well be wrong, the symbol does suggest a contemporary take on Celtic art. Celtic spiral type designs have been incorporated into Christian art in Ireland ever since the earliest days of Christianity here. I don't think so, Padraig. I think it probably had a Christian makeover and was used to represent the Blessed Trinity. That page I linked to says as much. To be honest, the symbol on the vestments also looks like three tadpoles or minnow, so maybe they're meant to be the fish symbol used by the earliest Christians.
It reminds me of the East somehow, something Like Tao. The pastel colours are outside Church tradition and hideous.

You're right, but things can have more than one meaning and be intended to have. This allows insider messages to be given to members of an in-group, while possessing instant deniability via reference to the alternative conventional meaning.
I don't think anyone really knows what that triple spiral was meant to represent. Folk following those New Age cults have very fertile imaginations. White and green are regular liturgical colours, and I think that pink can be worn on one day of the year but i can't remember the reason. I've never seen pink trimming. That pink vestment looks more like a kaftan. I wonder which priest it was designed for. Maybe they're having liturgical dancers. Reminds me of the 70's.
McAleese is quoted in the Independent as condemning the event as right-wing and intolerant. While taking into account that this woman seems to have gone absolutely insane, maybe the meeting won't be so bad as we fear. Please God.
