I'm not truly caught up on this thread but I wanted to add the following, ever since I came across www.bishop-accountability.org a few months ago I began to realize how widespread this problem of sexual abuse appears to be in the Church. I say appears to be because much of the data gathered are allegations and have not been tried in any court to my knowledge but a handful of cases, even one case is too much for most Catholics to hear about. This list imho is overwhelming if it is all true and it is absolutely not contained to any one country or any one continent and the fact that these allegations of abuse have been mishandled by various bishops in the Church have only further aggravated the situation, to put it mildly. I found this to be quite interesting, when I typed the forum into the address line today. CONT... Clovis said that the anti-Church works to achieve its goal of overcoming the true Church by intimidating the faithful, including the laity, priests, and bishops, into submission. To achieve its objectives, the anti-Church, in collaboration with the secular powers, uses the law and media to browbeat the true Church into submission. By adroit use of the media, the activists of the anti-Church have managed to intimidate bishops, clergy and most of the Catholic press into silence. Equally, the lay faithful are terrorised by fear of the hostility, ridicule and hate that would be visited upon them should they object to the imposition of LGBT ideology. For example, in 2015, the congregation of St Nicholas of Myra in the Archdiocese of Dublin gave a standing ovation to their parish priest when he declared from the pulpit that he was gay and urged them to support same-sex ‘marriage’ in the Irish referendum. And we all saw his actual "anger" displayed publicly when he laid out the priest activist in Nicaragua. The Sandinistas/Ortega were throwing out dissenting Bishops and their assistants at the time: John Paul, who showed his antipathy toward the Sandinistas during his 1983 Central American pilgrimage when he publicly scolded the poet-priest Rev. Ernesto Cardenal and ordered him to resign his Cabinet post as Nicaragua`s minister of culture, said he was deeply saddened by the church-state conflict in Nicaragua. Suspended priest and former Sandinista leader Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann has been elected to lead the next U.N. General Assembly, beginning in September of this year. D’Escoto has been a Maryknoll priest since 1961, and in 1975 he became involved with the Sandinista movement in Nicaragua, eventually becoming the country’s minister of foreign relations, a post he held until 1990. He was suspended by the Vatican in the 1980s together with two other priests involved in the Sandinista revolution, Ernesto and Fernando Cardenal. During a visit to Central America, Pope John Paul II publicly reprimanded him for his political activities. I am clueless re: the reported statements given by JPII re: any facts brought to him about any senior prelates accused of sexual abuse. Did he often report on himself like that so publicly as Pope?? We don't know just when the Pope is supposed to have mentioned his lack of power to do anything about what had been brought to him re: the facts of sexual abuse by certain clerics of greater power or the context, if true, in which it was given. And? So where's the problem with the reality I presented? And yes, you do seem to be overreacting to what you presume to have been something untrue apparently even after the facts were delineated for you as a courtesy. Are you expecting another definition for the word "remnant" (not my invention, btw) other than the one I offered and naturally accepted by those who follow what has been revealed about this future? Have you been one of the reduced population of the institutional Church who has comfortably been preached to about what constitutes the proper response to this gift of the Divine Mercy Devotion? Then your history is "elitist" and not experienced by most in all of these decades of re-defining the idea of what constitutes in truth when and how one can experience the Mercy of God while still remaining in the sins that instead prevent such from enjoying those benefits of grace. And of course there are those magnificent stats re: the growing demand for longer times for confession and those well noticed longer confessional lines over all this time of learning about this great all encompassing mercy by most preachers during this time that makes no demands. Um, not! During that year offered of mostly non-advertised steps to take to obtain this benefit of that year of Mercy even those designated places for the doors to more easily be noticed entertained the un-educated people who said they were passing through the "magic" door without the rest of the process that was a bit more uncomfortably thought provoking. That was what occurred in the parish closest to me with a couple of flyers and no increase in confessions offered. In fact that was the usual approach...other than the major shrine which did offer time periods for buses that brought those who were already members of groups that would normally attend all such offerings for devotions and pilgrimages. Perhaps they themselves did explain the complete demands for such Mercy to a few more whom they guided in charity. We're in an archdiocese with probably one of the best Archbishops in the world these days. He did his best for such organization. Yet, travel just across the bridge to the next state and the response was the usual feckless offering and lack of cooperation in other than those few designated churches that are the only ones that offer some type of celebration with all required yearly for that now designated Feast Day of the Church anyway. But you appear to think things are just rosy as long as it really doesn't touch or effect souls to the measure expected by heaven and remains in some unexplained etherial realm w/o that "flesh" involved to that willing "spirit". Sorry if this reality, openly criticized for what is lacking in truth and depth of meaning, "turns your stomach"....I'd have rather hoped that the seeming greater loss of souls and the growth of the diabolical disorientation with its devil worshiping paganism, reported in the news and just about everywhere these days, might have had that effect instead.....of course on the level playing field for good discussion with all histrionics set aside.

I fear the average Catholic wants a Jesus without a cross and mercy without repentance. The few Divine Mercy Sunday's in my area are small in numbers. It is because, priests for the most part are not speaking to its essential gift. The confessional's in most churches are empty, because sin is not preached on. The acceptance of illegal immigration seems to seems to be the only mortal sin of today. Few feel any guilt for sin anymore, because guilt is not preached on. It is all part of the diabolical disorientation from the 'church of nice', that had to come from the clergy in order to dumb down the people. Enough said.

I seem to remember reading that (then) Cardinal Ratzinger brought him the information and urged him to act but the communists in Poland often made false accusations like that to discredit the Church so he was skeptical. Pope BXVI made it a priority and got rid of Maciel who had enjoyed a friendship with JPII. Even saints can get it awfully wrong sometimes.
Yes, I remember that explanation.....so history of personally experienced violations played a part in JPII's approach. His expertise was more in the geo-political sphere which also I believe interfered with any true attempt at the ordered Fatima Consecration of Russia. Malachi Martin also felt that that approach has hindered other things involving the Vatican throughout history. And of course it also was a bad influence within VAT II as well.

What is so interesting in your post about Pius V. I was told recently that the theologians are now discussing that the reason God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah was because of their faithlessness. Their lack of charity and other nice virtues. I even questioned as to why the behaviour of these perverts was named after the city of Sodom. But what does Julia know. Now a Pope/Saint acknowledged what we were always taught. God only knows what children are being told about this perversity in schools today. I can't imagine we will be informed from the Pulpit. It was a Catholic self described very qualified that told me the modern interpretation.

I think that is why there is such a massive worldwide push to legitimize homosexuality and homosexual "families" with two "mommies" or two "daddies". It is the devil's final battle plan. It is the ultimate mockery of the most basic building blocks of a civilization. A mockery of the family and the love between spouses that mirrors Christ and His Church. Once you knock out the foundations of a society and turn all moral norms upside down then it is good for nothing. Never in the history of mankind have we ever seen something even close to what is happening in the world today. The entire moral order is inverted. Good is being called evil and evil good. This is worse than what happened in pagan times. It is sad to say, but even pagans had more morality than many in the world today. They at least understood and respected the natural law.
