Bridget of Sweden https://sites.google.com/site/catho...the-twelve-year-prayer-of-s-bridget-of-sweden St Bridget: The 12-year Prayer Saint Bridget of Sweden, the great 14th century Mystic and Visionary, was given a set of Prayers by Our Divine Lord, to be prayed for 12 years. These prayers are meditations on the seven times that Christ shed His Precious Blood on our account. To the one who will say the set of prayers daily for 12 years, these graces are promised: 1) The soul who prays them suffers no purgatory. 2) The soul who prays them will be accepted among the Martyrs as though he had spilled his blood for his faith. 3) The soul who prays them can choose three others whom Jesus will then keep in a state of grace sufficient to become holy. 4) No-one in the four successive generations of the soul who prays them will be lost. 5) The soul who prays them will be made conscious of his death one month in advance. If the suppliant should die before the allotted span, God the Father will accept them as having been prayed in their entirety, as the genuine intention was there. If a day or a few days are missed for a valid reason, they can be made up later. This devotion was pronounced good & profitable, and recommended by both the Sacro Collégia de propagánda fide, the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith – The Holy Office – and by Pope Clement XII. Pope Innocent X declared that they are from God. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ O Jesus, I now wish to pray the Lord’s Prayer seven times in unity with the love with which Thou sanctified this prayer in Thy Heart. Take it from my lips into Thy Divine Heart. Improve and complete it until it brings as much honour and joy to the Blessed Trinity as Thou granted it on Earth with this prayer. May these pour upon Thy Holy Humanity in glorification to Thy painful Wounds and the Precious Blood Thou spilled from them. 1) The Circumcision [The First Mortal sin] Our Father. Hail Mary. Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer to Thee the first wounds, the first pains and the first bloodshed, as atonement for my & all of humanity’s sins of youth, as protection against the first mortal sin, especially among my relatives. 2) The Suffering on the Mount of Olives [Sins of the heart] Our Father. Hail Mary. Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer to Thee the terrifying suffering of the Heart of Jesus on the Mount of Olives, and every drop of His Sweat of Blood, as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the heart, as protection against such sins, and for the spreading of Divine and Brotherly Love. 3) The Scourging [Sins of the flesh] Our Father. Hail Mary. Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer to Thee the many thousands of Wounds, the gruesome Pains and the Precious Blood of the Scourging, as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the Flesh, as protection against such sins and the preservation of innocence, especially among my relatives. 4) The Crowning with Thorns [Sins of pride] Our Father. Hail Mary. Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer to Thee the Wounds, the Pains and the Precious Blood of the Holy Head of Jesus from the Crowning with Thorns, as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the spirit, as protection against such sins and for the spreading of the Kingdom of Christ here on Earth. 5) The Carrying of the Cross [Sins of the tongue, against the Cross] Our Father. Hail Mary. Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer to Thee the Sufferings on the Way of the Cross, especially the Holy Wound on His Shoulder and its precious Blood, as atonement for my and all of humanity’s rebellion against the Cross, every grumbling against Thy Holy Providence, and all other sins of the tongue, as protection against such sins and for true love of the Cross. 6) The Crucifixion of Jesus [For the Church and the Jews] Our Father. Hail Mary. Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer to Thee Thy Son on the Cross, His nailing and lifting on high, the Wounds on His Hands and Feet, and the three streams of His Precious Blood that poured forth for us from these, the extreme tortures of His Body and Soul, His precious death and its unbloody renewal in all Holy Masses on Earth, as atonement for all wounds against vows and regulations within Religious Orders, as reparation for my and all the world’s sins, for the sick and dying, for all holy priests and laymen, for the intentions of the Holy Father toward the restoration of Christian families, for the strengthening of Faith, for our country, for unity among all nations in Christ and His Church, and also for the Diaspora. 7) The Piercing of Jesus’ Side [All of mankind and the Holy Souls] Our Father. Hail Mary. Eternal Father, accept as worthy for the needs of Holy Church, and as atonement for the sins of all Mankind, the precious Blood and Water which poured forth from the Wound of the Divine Heart of Jesus. Be gracious and merciful towards us. Blood of Christ, the last precious content of His Holy Heart, wash me of all my and other’s guilt of sin! Water from the Side of Christ, wash me clean of all punishments for sin and extinguish the flames of Purgatory for me and for all the Poor Souls. Pray without ceasing. +++ But aren’t such stupendous promises too good to be true? Remember when Elias the prophet sent a messenger to Naaman the leper, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thou shalt be clean. But Naaman was angry, saying, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and cure the leprosy. Are not the rivers of Damascus better than all the waters of Israel? May I not wash in them, and be clean? But his servants said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldst thou not have done it? How much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? Then he went down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. Thanks Beth B. I started this prayer two years ago--made it to a year and a half and somehow got away from it. Time to start all over again. Wonderful jprayers and wonderful jpromises.
I did the same AED! I started back over two years ago for my family. I think that I'll probably never quit because there are so many others in my family that I can continue it for. I usually pray it with the you tube video when I'm at home and use the prayer card elsewhere. It's so short a prayer....and so powerful the promise. I'm grateful for this opportunity ....for my soul and for those I love. Thank you Jesus for this gift!
I started this prayer back in 2011. It took me about 3 years to memorize it but now that I have I usually say it before I am out of bed in the morning! I really hope all the promises are true!!
Oh Denise....you are better than me.....I have trouble memorizing it! Wish I could then I wouldn't need the prayer card. And you are wise to do it upon wakening rather than the evening when you are so tired that your slightly tempted to not do it....but you do it rather than risk breaking your efforts of so many years! A great incentive!
They are such beautiful prayers - I do not doubt that the promises are true. Even if they were untrue, He will reward all His faithful because of our perseverance and trust in the promises.
Thank you for adding this lynnfiat! I meant to and forgot! Regardless, you will be rewarded for your faithfulness. No prayer is ever wasted. Even for the souls in purgatory. If you offer prayers, masses, sacrifices for certain poor souls and they are already in heaven, God will assign those efforts for another deserving soul. Never a wasted prayer exist....Our Lord is a just judge.
There is also a set of St. Bridget prayers that are said for one year that takes you through Christ's passion which takes much longer to say. I did that one about ten years ago, and even got to pray them in front of the crucifix that Jesus came alive from to give them to her. It is in the Adoration Chapel in St. Paul Outside the Wall Basilica . There are promises attached to them also but don't involve staying out of purgatory. Just saying... if I had started the 12 year prayers the year I did the one year prayers I would be almost finished!!
Omg...I did those St. Bridget prayers too...about 13 years ago....they were longgggggggg! But I'm so glad I stayed with it. Funny, but I can't remember the promises attached to them I must say, that you were very blessed to have said them in front of the crucifix! I found them in my little PIETA prayer book...a great little prayer book btw If you die (praying that you don't!), before the 12 years, you will still merit it's reward. When my father was dying, I started him saying these prayers...everyday. He had a brain tumor and could no longer see, so I played the you tube video of the prayers so he could pray along with it. Even when he went unconscious, I would play it for him in his room...just in case. So he benefited from the merits of this devotion even though he only started them months before he died. If anyone has a loved one that is dying, please add this to their prayers.
A little story about the St. Bridget one year prayers: My husband and I were in Medjugorje years ago (during the war) and had just finished the one year prayers. We went there to visit our Prayer Partners, a group that was started during the war for the people living in Medjugorje and the surrounding areas, and with our prayer partners we climbed Cross mountain. When we arrived at the top of the mountain, my husbands prayer partner, who was a very elderly women, knelt down in prayer. My husband asked the translator what she was praying as she had been there awhile. The translator asked her and she replied that she was praying the St. Bridget one year prayers for our family which she had memorized by heart! How good is our God!!!
I prayed those 15 prayers for a year+, 10 years ago or so. I love them and still love praying them. The promises for doing so are powerful. I found them in the Pieta booklet too.
Omg...that's amazing. First that she'd been praying that prayer....and even more amazing....THAT SHE MEMORIZED it! Holy cow....now that's a prayer partner made in heaven ! Great story!
