I am sorry but glancing through what Dr Moynihan has written I can't help wondering what all the fuss was all about?

I am a little at a loss, in fact I am wondering , if these are the results if there was any point in having a Synod in the first place? Couldn't these conclusions have been reached quietly and implememnted by the Pope himself?

Of course we want to be charitable to everyone. Of course. But does it need a Church Synod to say this?

But perhaps I am missing something. It seems such an anti climax.

I am a little perplexed by it all. I wonder if the Pope is going to kick the ball from the sidelines? For what was the point of it all ? It all seems so trite and passe.

When I suggested on this forum that this was exactly what our Holy Father wished to accomplish I was mocked by some who are no longer with us. Lets not lose faith in the process now. Lets not lose faith in our Pope. We do not tell the Pope what we should believe and how we should act. He tells us. This has always been the way of the Roman Catholic Church. It still is. Nothing he has done has contradicted doctrine or dogma. Everything he is trying to do is to draw people into knowledge of the love and mercy of God without compromise, only gentle but strong conviction; the tenderness of a true father exercising discipline and authority proper to his duties and responsibilities. There are some recalcitrant children who may never submit to this pastoral care unlike the child Jesus who returned with Joseph and Mary and was subject to them. Only something like The Warning will correct their conscience. Again these are only my thoughts. Only my faith.

I suggest that our understanding will not be formed by the conclusions of the Synod but by what the Pope does now.

It's not about the Synod or the conclusions of the Synod, ..

IT'S ABOUT WHAT THE POPE DOES NOW.

If he leaves things as they stand fair enough. But I don't think that is his intention.

By the way it is as morally flawed to place forward the argument, 'My country, right or wrong', as it is , 'My Pope, right or wrong'.

    We'll see what happens.

I remember after the 2014 Synod many believed Pope Francis was trying to expose the '' Wolves in sheeps clothing'' and then deal with them severely .
    Is this still the expectation?
After all the confusion and filth coming from some of the Cardinals?

All along I've been wondering if the popes intention was to let the liberals have their say, and shut up. I think he's done that. The liberals can't ever say "no one listened or gave our views a chance".
    They have listened.
    And voted.
    2/3 majority rules.
Now liberals, shut the heck up please.

We certainly know where many of the princes of the Church stand now. Knowledge, they say, is power.

I wouldn't worry overmuch about proposed decentralisation. Anyone familiar with that great comedy "Yes, Minister" will know that a civil service such as that of the Vatican will not relinquish power that easily in such a situation and may indeed consolidate it. Already there have been reports of the Vatican reinterpreting some of the annulment proposals.

The hypothesis that the Holy Father has some kind of, 'Master plan', to, 'Expose' Heresy and 'Heretics' thorugh the Synod has to mind three serious flaws.

    1. There is not a shred of evidence to confirm this.

    2. The Holy Father has taken no action against these heretics.

    3. How does , 'Exposing ', heresy combat heresy? These gentlemen are perfectly happy to air their views before the world and to defend them. They are hidng nothing. How can it be right for instance to leave a Cardinal in charge of a major Metropolitan City consisting of millions of the Faithful and say it is enough to, 'Expose ' him? Why are they not excommunicated?

These heretics were hiding nothing before the Synod. THey hid nothing during the Synod and I am quite sure they will be publically airing heresy after the Synod. So where does this word, 'Exposed' come from?

If there is a Master Plan fine ( though there is just as much evidence that Pope Francis plans on making a moon landing)..

I am not holding my breath.

    Neither should you.

We should probably be grateful the Pope has no master-plan and thank God that He has.

Well, Im looking at all this in the light of having my own trust in some of the clergy in Ireland deeply shaken.
They say (unsubstantiated claim) that the ACP has a membership of 800 or so priests.
(Talk truly is cheap, so I'd love to see some hard numbers here.)
In any case, lets just give the catholic protestants the benefit of the doubt, and pretend that there really is 800 irish priests who question the divinity of Christ and the holiness of His Blessed Mother.
Let just pretend, that the best part of 1000 priests here in Ireland would like to see married and female priests.
Do you think the synod has answered them?
Do you think they've had their wings clipped?
    Time will tell.
Personally, I'd love to have seen a real slap-down, but thats not this Popes style.

A shepherd one time had a flock of sheep which was beset by wolves. He fought the wolves for years keeping them off and often killing them with his Shepherd's crozier.

The time came and the shepherd's son came along and took control off his Fathers Flocks. He did not kill the sheep (for this was not his style) . He listened to them and entered into converstation. He even organised a great meeting off wolves and shepherds so that together they might arrive at some kind of consensus.

At the end of the meeting all the wolves and shepherds returned home. The wolves to continue killing and eating the sheep

Now tell me the two shepherds, the father who killed the wolves oo the son who did not kill them (for this was not his style); which of the two served best in defense of his flock?

Shepherds crozier's are for killing wolves, not for inviting them in for a drink and a chat. That's why we hand them out to Bishops.
So they can get to killing.

Evil is not an illusion or a Fairy Tale. Evil is real.

Heretical wolves exist. They must be dealt with.

Here is what we don't know. Until Holy Father comes out with his encyclical or final word on the synod we can't assume anything. He has surprised us many times in the past. Here is what we do know. Nearly every old prophecy and new prophecy has the great schism, not just de facto, to take place and a great split in the Church where only a remnant hold true to doctrine and practice of the faith. The follow-up document or encyclical of Pope Francis could come very soon and surprise us all (even weeks). As for me and my household we will serve the unchanging truth no matter where the spin comes from. I believe when he provides the document the Church will go into formal schism until the Warning. The illumination of conscience (Warning) will be what brings the divorced and remarried (adulterers), co-habitations (fornicators), and those practicing gay life style (sodomy) back to the graces of the Church after repentance as John the Baptist preached. They cannot enter back into sanctifying grace and the Eucharist until this is done as our Lord has already spoken clearly on these teachings and no clerical spin can change or alter this. Truth cannot change.

I understand you point 100% Padraig.
I find the heretical wolves existence unsettling. I find the fact the thus far their beliefs are unchecked even more unsettling.

Well?! After all the Hoop-La, BS and Angst over The Synod ... What!!??
Considering ALL that has been discussed here & Elsewhere The Synod is and has always been a distraction for far too many! Did The Synod ever have the capacity to directly impact Your Life, Home, Job, Health or Welfare!!?? ...... I think not!
Time to get "Back on Course" and Focus on Jesus, His Message and how you/yours are going to survive over the next few years!!

    GOD SAVE ALL HERE!!

Yes as I've said for months I think the synod will just be the "kickoff". The progressives got their foot in the door and got a barely passing section of the document (Paragraphs 84-86) which is vague and fuzzy but leaves much room for them to maneuver. The idea is to leave all of these issues up to people's consciences. Isn't this what protestants do? In the initial count this section passed by 1 vote, the thinnest margin of all of the sections voted on.

I remember an old parish priest when I was about 4 or 5 years old, Fr Jeremiah O'Leary, who use to hook his walking stick round my neck and draw me over to him saying of me playfully, "He's irresponsible enough to become a priest." I always imagined this was the kind of action for which a bishops crozier was intended. I still do. It is used to separate the sheep from the goats, to control the movement of the flock especially in tight spots and to give special attention to those who need it. The Pope does indeed have a master plan. It is the plan of the Master "That there be but one flock and one shepherd." The separation and selection has begun not only in terms of personnel but in terms of ideology and action. Watch out for that crozier. Let yourself be drawn deeper into the plan that draws us deeper into tge fullness of Truth, not only of the Pope but of Christ Jesus himself. Only the Pope has the power to bind and loose. In this resides the function of his crozier as Bishop, not only of Rome but of the Universal Church. Those who do not submit to the crozier will be left to the ravages of wolves. They are waiting in the darkness where there is "weeping and gnashing of teeth." That is why we need to stay close to the Shepherd, Our Holy Father Pope Francis, why we need to say our morning offering at the start of every day. This is the one I was taught as a child and which I still say.
"Oh Jesus, through the most pure Heart of Mary, I offer Thee all my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Thy Divine Heart and particularly for the intentions of our Holy Father the Pope." As for this Crozier (my surname) like Fr O' Leary's walking stick it's there to give him support.

What comes out of the synod has the potential to greatly impact our lives. If what is said brings formal schism, it could mean my family driving 50 miles for an authentic Catholic Mass. It could mean my neighbors and even current church members could persecute my family. It could mean I can't hold my job if I hold to traditional Catholic faith. Yes, it could effect us greatly, but it won't change my faith inwardly. It may well effect how we survive the next few years.
