Bible Catechism of the Catholic Church Catholic Prayers Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic Prayers to and by the Saints "Prayer is an aspiration of the heart, it is a simple glance directed to heaven, it is a cry of gratitude and love in the midst of trail as well as joy; finally, it is something great, supernatural, which expands my soul and unites me to Jesus." - Saint Therese of Lisieux "A soul arms itself by prayer for all kinds of combat. In whatever state the soul may be, it ought to pray. A soul which is pure and beautiful must pray, or else it will lose its beauty; a soul which is striving after this purity must pray, or else it will never attain it; a soul which is newly converted must pray, or else it will fall again; a sinful soul, plunged in sins, must pray so that it might rise again. There is no soul which is not bound to pray, for every single grace comes to the soul through prayer." - Saint Faustina "Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you." - Saint Augustine "Pray, hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer" - Padre Pio " You pay God a compliment by asking great things of Him." - Saint Teresa of Avila "It is simply impossible to lead, without the aid of prayer, a virtuous life." - Saint John Chrysostom "Virtues are formed by prayer. Prayer preserves temperance. Prayer suppresses anger. Prayer prevents emotions of pride and envy. Prayer draws into the soul the Holy Spirit, and raises man to Heaven." - Saint Ephraem of Syria "Purity is the fruit of prayer." - Blessed Mother Teresa "What prayer could be more true before God the Father than that which the Son, who is Truth, uttered with His own lips?" - Saint John Chrysostom "Prayer is the place of refuge for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, a protection against sadness." - Saint John Chrysostom "Let us all resign ourselves into His hands, and pray that in all things He may guide us to do His Holy Will ... When thoughts of this or that come I turn to Him and say: "Only what you will, my God. Use me as You will". - Blessed Mary MacKillop "He who prays most receives most." - Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori "My little children, your hearts, are small, but prayer stretches them and makes them capable of loving God. Through prayer we receive a foretaste of heaven and something of paradise comes down upon us. Prayer never leaves us without sweetness. It is honey that flows into the souls and makes all things sweet. When we pray properly, sorrows disappear like snow before the sun." - Saint John Vianney "We must speak to God as a friend speaks to his friend, servant to his master; now asking some favor, now acknowledging our faults, and communicating to Him all that concerns us, our thoughts, our fears, our projects, our desires, and in all things seeking His counsel." - Saint Ignatius of Loyola "During mental prayer, it is well, at times, to imagine that many insults and injuries are being heaped upon us, that misfortunes have befallen us, and then strive to train our heart to bear and forgive these things patiently, in imitation of our Saviour. This is the way to acquire a strong spirit." - Saint Philip Neri "Don't imagine that, if you had a great deal of time, you would spend more of it in prayer. Get rid of that idea; it is no hindrance to prayer to spend your time well." - Saint Teresa of Avila "Prayer ought to be humble, fervent, resigned, persevering, and accompanied with great reverence. One should consider that he stands in the presence of a God, and speaks with a Lord before whom the angels tremble from awe and fear." - Saint Mary Magdalen de Pazzi "We must pray without tiring, for the salvation of mankind does not depend upon material success . . . but on Jesus alone." - Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini "The prayer most pleasing to God is that made for others and particularly for the poor souls. Pray for them, if you want your prayers to bring high interest." - Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich "Prayer is the inner bath of love into which the soul plunges itself." - Saint John Vianney "Without Prayer nothing good is done. God's works are done with our hands joined, and on our knees. Even when we run, we must remain spiritually kneeling before Him." - Blessed Luigi Orione "We must pray without tiring, for the salvation of mankind does not depend on material success; nor on sciences that cloud the intellect. Neither does it depend on arms and human industries, but on Jesus alone." - Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini "Read some chapter of a devout book....It is very easy and most necessary, for just as you speak to God when at prayer, God speaks to you when you read." - Saint Vincent de Paul "Are you making no progress in prayer? Then you need only offer God the prayers which the Savior has poured out for us in the sacrament of the altar. Offer God His fervent love in reparation for your sluggishness." - Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque "It often happens that we pray God to deliver us from some dangerous temptation, and yet God does not hear us but permits the temptation to continue troubling us. In such a case, let us understand that God permits even this for our greater good. When a soul in temptation recommends itself to God, and by His aid resists, O how it then advances in perfection." - Saint Alphonsus Liguori "The devil dreads fasting, prayer, humility, and good works: He is not able even to stop my mouth who speak against him. The illusions of the devil soon vanish, especially if a man arms himself with the Sign of the Cross. The devils tremble at the Sign of the Cross of our Lord, by which He triumphed over and disarmed them." - Saint Antony Abbot "We must meditate before, during and after everything we do. The prophet says: "I will pray, and then I will understand." This is the way we can easily overcome the countless difficulties we have to face day after day, which, after all, are part of our work. In meditation we find the strength to bring Christ to birth in ourselves and in others." - Saint Charles Borromeo "We must pray without ceasing, in every occurrence and employment of our lives - that prayer which is rather a habit of lifting up the heart to God as in a constant communication with Him." - Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
There were many more quotes, but I could not fit them in.. sorry. I hope some of them above are to your liking! God bless!
"In order to succeed in it (prayer), it should be done when we first awaken, when our whole being is calm and recollected. We need to make our meditation before anything else." - Saint Peter Julian Eymard "As far as possible, you should pray in quiet and silent devotion. Try to have a favorite topic of prayer, such as a devotion to the passion of Jesus, the Blessed Sacrament, awareness of the divine presence; go directly to Jesus without too much fuss." - Saint Peter Julian Eymard "Have confidence in prayer. It is the unfailing power which God has given us. By means of it you will obtain the salvation of the dear souls whom God has given you and all your loved ones." Ask and you shall receive," Our Lord said. Be yourself with the good Lord." - Saint Peter Julian Eymard "Let him never cease from prayer who has once begun it, be his life ever so wicked; for prayer is the way to amend it, and without prayer such amendment will be much more difficult." - Saint Teresa of Avila "Prayer ought to be short and pure, unless it be prolonged by the inspiration of Divine grace." - Saint Benedict "Are you making no progress in prayer? Then you need only offer God the prayers which the Savior has poured out for us in the sacrament of the altar. Offer God His fervent love in reparation for your sluggishness." - Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque "My usual manner of praying is this: I no sooner begin to pray than my soul becomes enveloped in a peace and tranquility that words cannot describe. . .All I can say about this prayer is that my soul seems to be completely lost in God and that in those moments it gains more than it could in many years of intensive spiritual exercises" - Padre Pio

The beauty of the Catholic Church. By posting these quotes you have given many blessings to all who read. My favorite was "The devil dreads fasting, prayer, humility, and good works: He is not able even to stop my mouth who speak against him. The illusions of the devil soon vanish, especially if a man arms himself with the Sign of the Cross. The devils tremble at the Sign of the Cross of our Lord, by which He triumphed over and disarmed them." - Saint Antony Abbot Brother Al
Ah, you are very kind Brother Al. May much of what you and others read here inspire and bless you. God Bless!
My brother took a heart attack a couple of years ago. I helped him out a little (and it was a little) and when he got better he bought me the most beautiful brass and black zippo cigarette lighted. I got very fond of it for lighting my cigars and always carried it with me. About four night ago I put my hand in my pocket and to my sadness the zippo was not there. However I could remember were in the park I had probably lost it, pulling something else out. I was surprised how concerned I was at loosing it. Such a little thing , but it was a present and well I had just got very fond of it, the way you do sometimes and so I prayed . But no lighted. I checked my whole route. So for the next two or three days when I thought of that lighter felt a little sad and prayed a little more; but with little enough faith or hope, I admit. But yesterday I put on an old leather jacket I sometimes wear and there to my joy was the lighter, good as new! Well you may say, so what? But I always keep that old lighter in my trouser pocket. That is why I was so sure I had lost it in the first place. But in any case I think more and more in terms of prayer of petition Faith is a great big must. Someone once wrote that we must pray as if our prayers are already answered . There is a lot of truth in that. Yesterday evening I sat beside my sister, Siobhain who is in a coma, now holding her hand. They said she would die last night or today. I was thinking how wonderful it would be if there was a miracle and she might be cured. I prayed for this but nothing happened. Well let's be honest I never in my heart ever expected anything wonderful to happen. I just have not got the Faith for that kind of miracle. I was also thinking after about a miracle last night. How much of wishing for a miracle was about helping my sister and how much it might have been about my own ego? About helping myself? As I thought these sad thoughts the dog growled in his sleep. Oh Lord I believe. Lord increase the little Faith I have. Mark 11:23 The Withered Fig Tree …22And Jesus answered saying to them, "Have faith in God. 23"Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. 24"Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.…
I am so glad that you found your lighter. Such things are of no consequence to some, but to many they hold dear and precious memories. I sincerely wish for your sister well being in God's will. I will offer up some prayers for you and your sister. Ah yes, animals are one of many of Gods gifts. "Someone once wrote that we must pray as if our prayers are already answered" Sounds to me like our blessed Lords teaching in the good book; just aired differently. (Mark 11:23) Indeed. It is through our childhood belief of trust and love: that many peryers are answered. But as many grow older sadly, we become more cynical; doubting love itself, and thus hinder our prayers being answered. If a prayer is to be magnificent it must bow to simplicity first. One must repent sincerely; trust sincerely; love sincerely: (RTL) It is when we love, wish the wellbeing of others: that we become more Christ like. God will answer a prayer if it is to your benefit and others: were the good of the soul is concerned. For there you will find most of your prayers answered: truly! God Bless!
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is error, the truth; Where there is doubt, the faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled, as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. O Glorious Prince of the heavenly host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the terrible warfare that we are waging against the principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the evil spirits. Come to the aid of man, whom Almighty God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of Satan. Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in Heaven. That cruel, ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity. These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be. Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious power of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly find mercy in the sight of the Lord; and vanquishing the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.
