The Future of the United States of America.

I like this post a lot. I brings questions about the light of God through our history and the struggle of men to find it. The solution will never be a machine, drugs or anything worldly.

There is nothing new under the sun. We may have more capable machines today, but to what ends? Like aliens, AI is promoted as a savior of mankind. As if somehow it will solve our every desire and problem. A false Messiah.

But this will only create more addiction, consumption and so on. Even if used with positive intentions. How can AI generate love? Courage? Faith? Obviously it can't. We all need to go through the epics of our personal and collective lives.

The concept that we will live forever somehow because of AI is a myth perpetuated implicitly. But only God can offer this. The struggle for the light of God, men searching for the kingdom will continue. Even while men ineffectively search for ways to stop the inevitability of death. The tower of Babel all over again, men trying to take the kingdom by their own creation.

I’m not intending to make a dig at the love of country or patriotism of the ordinary American. Such virtues are natural and good for any nation. My target is the view among a certain minority that the United States is in some way morally superior to other countries. It is certainly wealthier and more militarily powerful than any other single country, although the gap seems to be narrowing. However, I can’t accept that, because of some quality of its political constitution, it is morally superior to the rest of the world. This kind of thinking has led to the view that if something is voted in, it is the highest level of morality. Therefore, voting in abortion, same-sex marriage (something Ireland is even more guilty of) make these things morally imperative and requiring propagation throughout the world.

Pope Leo XIII said it far more eloquently and coherently than me, when he spoke over a century ago of what he saw as ‘Americanism’.

 

Well you will find that kind of thought in any country or group from a minority of the people. What makes the US different is that we don’t have any particular ethnicity. We are a mix of many nationalities. Immigrants. Even the native Americans immigrated here thousands of years ago. Long before Columbus there is evidence of the Vikings and Celts. We can’t identify as Poles, Germans, Chinese, Irish etc. because we are all of them. The Pilgrims on the Mayflower had to figure this out with self governance from writing the Mayflower Compact. That became the beginning of the US Constitution. But the attitude of exceptionalism has always been around, look at Rome when it conquered the world. Look at England when “Britannia ruled the World. “ Mixing politics and religion has always been an ego trip. We need God to help us, In God We Trust.

America is made up its people not our government.. Honestly, as soon as we are mentioned, the digs start...I don't mind, but for us who have sacrificed family members...my brothers included, may our Flag still wave. I will die still loving my country. Loving my Church, which is in just as bad shape as my country.
