Jesus is the head, the Church is the body. You cannot separate the two. Yes, there are many, many wounds on the body. Some wounds are deep festering wounds (heretical bishops), some are surface wounds. The body must follow the head and since the head (Jesus) endured the passion, so must the body. We are going through the passion and have been for 2000 years. While the sight of this body may be repulsive to some (just as the sight of Jesus on the cross disgusted many), those with eyes to see gaze on it with true love and devotion (as the Virgin Mary gazed upon her son on the cross).
