Oh dear Lord Ill try again.....or maybe I should make it absolutely clear what I am trying to say and take full control of the ping pong situation going on in this thread ....

There is no right or wrong in war, murder and violence.. Both sides of the argument are totally blinded by revenge and the end goal of winning..

Ill state the only catholic view from this site that everyone can read and fully understand that is War is to be condemned the only solution is peaceful dialogue and peaceful prayer to achieve that....

I am asking no further response from either side of the debate... period line drew we will all agree to disagree (y)

  2. I agree and it becomes an obsession. I don't even discuss this stuff and if I had family or friends over, they would avoid me like the plaque if I pushed this or any narrative. Life can be difficult for all of us even with prayer, but God is in control and He allows this, so I will keep trusting Him. Not the new york times, CNN or any place pushing a certain narrative. God bless.

Taking a broader view of some of the discussions on this thread, I wonder if yet another subtle sifting is taking place. Between those who believe they understand things and those who truly have been granted sight by God. Mary P and LMF wrote about sensing the call to silence. My husband and I are just two of so many others sensing a definitive season of further sifting underway again.

As I was writing this, I felt a brief moment of sinking fear, What if we're wrong about some of the things we believe in?
As if in response, something within me said: Focus on humility. That will be the sign. That is always the sign.

We are weak human beings we are always wrong one great example for me was in 1936 500 Irish men set sail from Galway the Catholic priests and bishop blessed them before they left ?? they set sail under the flag of swastika they all believed as did the church they were right ?? history tells us they were indeed very very wrong.... may the Holy Spirit guide us,,Jesus I Trust in You

Such a sad piece of history. Yes, the church can get things wrong. I agree that it goes to show just how much we need the Holy Spirit to steer the vessel of our lives. I learned that over and over during the Covid era. And I will continue to learn for sure till my final hours on this earth.
But to learn, first I must have humility, or else I'd have learned nothing at all.

I was at 10am mass Monday morning. I always go up last because the priest doesn't like giving the host on the tongue - so I reckon being last causes least hassle for him.
He hasn't said that he doesn't like administering on the tongue out loud - but his body language readily conveys it (last week, for example, he tried to give it to me in the hand even tho I didn't have my hands out to receive).
    This week he ignored me.
I was last up, as usual.
He simply turned his back and walked away.
The eucharistic minister in the next line was just finishing up her queue - and had given the last person communion as the priest walked away. I caught her eye and she waited for me to come to her. She gave it to me on the tongue after I asked her if it would be okay. "Of course." She said.... I was so glad.
I told Jesus that I didn't mind - and I prayed for the priest.
I don't understand how a priest doesn't get the importance of the Eucharist.
I've been thinking about it since.
Do people have thoughts on this?

I understand your pain. I have been there. I receive on the tongue only. It’s not a popular view even though it is protected by the canons of the Church. Going to Communion is not supposed to be stressful. Sad for you,

Our pastor up until a year ago when he retired made a BIG DEAL about hand sanitizing before and after giving Holy Communion on the tongue. This was just after lockdown was lifted but went on for some time. His body language was definitely sending a message. I started to do Mass at the Adoration chapel. The priest chaplain to the nuns was wonderful. No problem on the tongue. Its strange your priest is so reluctant. It is definitely permitted to receive on the tongue.

There are a few priests locally with a similar attitude.. I think its a legacy from covid. I find it rather sad. What amazes me is how many people --- particularly older people, that just don't receive on the tongue anymore.
My weegirl will make her first communion soon. She's being taught to receive in the hand. I struggle to receive on the tongue. How can I expect her to swim against the tide, so young...

Maybe the day will come that she notices you do so...Hopefully she'll ask you about why....make your case gently as to why....I'll put $ down on the table right now that she'll understand your reasons ~
she'll swim with you after that..

At least 2o years ago my pastor said receiving on the tongue was “disgusting “.
You never forget a comment like that from a priest. :(

I went to a Mass in another town and had a priest walk away when I put out my tongue to receive. Saddest day of my life.

Painful. I think this is why so many older people receive in the hand, they may have been intimidated along the way and it’s easier to just go with the flow. :(

It is not that this priest gives so little importance to Holy Communion. He simply holds onto a view that accents sacred meal, not Real Presence. Perhaps he believes to acquiesce would be to turn the clock back. Very sad; but he is being disobedient to the norms of the Church which permit reception under either: in the hand or on the tongue.

Obviously, if was your parish you should arrange a meeting, and if he refused, you would have the right to report him to the Bishop. If he refused you, he probably refuses others reception on the tongue.:(:whistle::coffee:

I hope the good priest has not bought into the covid narrative. This is what kept those of us who declined, locked out of church and without access to the sacrament - and what will continue to plague the clergy unless they have the humility to allow the Holy Spirit to show them we're not some diseased lot.

I taught my son to receive on the tongue. He was the only first communicant to do so in his class. He is one of the few Altar servers in our parish and he still receives this way as a young teen. It's a rarity that anyone receives on the tongue in the parish but so far only a few priests act like you might give them the plague. No one has refused us yet. Praise God.
