Thank you, as of 3pm CT, the area around their house has only had 13 inches of rain since Friday night, while some nearby areas have had up to 20 inches. One day at a time! Safe in the Refuge of the Immaculate Heart!
I was just going to ask you for an update, Mario! Will continue to pray. This is good news. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the House of the Lord forever. Ps 23 Lord, please keep all of Mario's family and relatives in Your care, and let the ground absorb all the rain so no flooding. Amen
Erdogon continues his sweeping reforms. This time by taking over the intelligence agency of Turkey by decree. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/pr...-too.aspx?pageID=449&nID=117214&NewsCatID=409 The government extended the powers of the National Intelligence Agency (MİT) and linked it directly to President Tayyip Erdoğan with a new state of emergency decree issued on Aug. 25. The MİT undersecretary (the chief of the agency) previously reported directly to the prime minister, but will now report only to the president. He will only report to other state agencies upon the order of the president. The opposition parties - the social democratic main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the Kurdish problem-focused Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) - have strongly reacted against the move, saying the government was bypassing parliament by changing a law with a decree, especially about a sensitive security matter. “The MİT is finished. This is turning into the regime of Abdulhamid,” CHP Deputy Chair Levent Gök said, referring to the police state-like implementations of the Ottoman sultan who reigned from 1876 to 1909. Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) denied claims that the move shows that the president has no trust in him any longer. He said it was simply an administrative step in harmony with the narrow April 16 constitutional referendum win, in which all executive powers were concentrated in presidential hands. According to the latest decree, the National Intelligence Coordination Board (MİKK), which is chaired by the MİT chief every three months, will henceforth be chaired by President Erdoğan himself. The MİT will also be given authority to collect intelligence in the military and all ministries, which sounds like a measure designed after the foiled military coup attempt of July 15, 2016. Meanwhile, the budget of intelligence operations will be consolidated with the budget of the presidency, which is already partly covert. The MİT law had stated that the undersecretary is appointed by the president after being consulted in the National Security Board (MGK) and recommended by the prime minister. This necessity has been changed in the new decree, with the addition of the phrase “appointed by the president.” In addition, the president will also be able to appoint all deputy undersecretaries and department directors of the intelligence agency personally, and will decide whether courts or parliamentary commissions will be able to summon the MİT undersecretary and subordinates - including former ones - as suspects or witness. Another change brought about by the decree law is that anyone who reveals the names, positions or addresses of MİT employees and their families could face trial and be jailed for between three and seven years. This whole outlook shows that President Erdoğan sees the MİT, which is by its nature not transparent or fully accountable, as a major tool in the establishment of the new executive presidential system - with both foreign and domestic security dimensions.
Here is a strange story about Beachy Head, Sussex in the UK. Beachy Head chemical haze mystery deepens as police say gas not from France August 28, 2017 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...evacuated-chlorine-gas-leak-causes-breathing/ PS - I'm sure that most of you have read that the protests in the USA continued over the weekend, the movie Gone With The Wind has been targeted also.
Why is the Vatican silent on all this? Oh I forget. Maduro is a Marxist. Hunger eats away at Venezuela’s soul as its people struggle to survive The Maduro regime denies its once oil-rich country is in crisis. But on the streets the desperation cannot be hidden A supermarket is looted in Maracay, Aragua state. Photograph: Federico Parra/AFP/Getty Images Emma Graham-Harrison in Caracas Sunday 27 August 2017 00.05 BST Hunger is gnawing at Venezuela, where a government that claims to rule for the poorest has left most of its 31 million people short of food, many desperately so. As night falls over Caracas, and most of the city’s residents lock their doors against its ever more violent streets, Adriana Velásquez gets ready for work, heading out into an uncertain darkness as she has done since hunger forced her into the only job she could find at 14. She was introduced to her brothel madam by a friend more than two years ago after her mother, a single parent, was fired and the two ran out of food. “It was really hard, but we were going to bed without eating,” said the teenager, whose name has been changed to protect her. Since then Venezuela’s crisis has deepened, the number of women working at the brothel has doubled, and their ages have dropped. “I was the youngest when I started. Now there are girls who are 12 or 13. Almost all of us are there because of the crisis, because of hunger.” More here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/26/nicolas-maduro-donald-trump-venezuela-hunger
This is really terrible. More Flooding: TS Harvey Could Restrengthen after Return to Gulf Waters ...The National Hurricane Center reported Sunday night that Tropical Storm Harvey is moving from its stationary position near Cuero, Texas, back to Victoria. It is expected to work its way back to the Gulf of Mexico near the town of Matagorda. Once it is back over open water, conditions could allow the storm to reorganize and strengthen. It would also create new rain bands that would feed into the Houston area over the early part of the week, through Wednesday, officials stated. This makes me recall a message that predicted a future time when people wouldn't finish cleaning up one disaster when another would be upon them. Is this the beginning?
What a week! Started last Mon with an eclipse and ended the week with a catastrophic hurricane. We live near Beaumont and this morning around midnight the deluge hit us for the 2nd day. We don't have water in the house but it's very close to flooding, especially if we receive more rain. Please pray for safety in our area and that this storm system finally moves out of the area. God Bless!
Prayers for all effected and prayers for those coming in to help with their boats....they don't have enough boats....prepared but this is catastrophic! The "Cajun navy" is reported to be on its way. Some now who never ordinarily get flooded are reporting flooding due to opening of reservoir so dam won't break. And now apparently a major fire in Houston from an explosion! http://abc13.com/witness-explosion-rocks-building-in-downtown-houston/2350911/
Billy Graham should be extremely proud of his son. Excellent video of interview with Franklin Graham: Rev. It goes without saying that when the USA experiences a disaster like this, many people come out to help each other. Hopefully these stories will overwhelm the stories of the protestors. I'm continuing to pray for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. https://cruxnow.com/church-in-the-usa/2017/08/27/houston-priest-uses-kayak-say-mass-runs-afoul-ban-sunday-wine-sales/ Houston priest uses kayak to say Mass, runs afoul of ban on Sunday wine sales In Church in the US Crux Staff August 27, 2017 AUTHOR A family evacuates their Meyerland home in Houston, Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017. Rescuers answered hundreds of calls for help Sunday as floodwaters from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey rose high enough to begin filling second-story homes, and authorities urged stranded families to seek refuge on their rooftops. (Credit: Mark Mulligan/Houston Chronicle via AP.) Father David Bergeron of the Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston, was returning from watching the big Mayweather v. McGregor fight and ended up stuck in the storm and sleeping in his truck. He had to use his kayak to get home, and tried to buy supplies to say Mass for others stranded. However, the law against alcohol sales before noon on Sundays got in the way. As Houston continues to be pounded by rainfall related to Hurricane Harvey, a Catholic priest returning from watching the big fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor Saturday night couldn’t get home, and spent the night sleeping in his truck on an overpass. On Sunday Morning, he woke up ready to do what every priest does that day, which is to say Sunday Mass. In his case, however, his conveyance to get there was a little unusual: He used a kayak to navigate the city’s flooded streets, hoping to find people stranded along the way. He saw many Hispanics stranded, and was drawn to them as there are many Hispanics who attend services at his parish. Father David Bergeron of the Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston, in an interview with a local Houston ABC affiliate station told a reporter, “I’m French Canadian …. this is how the Americas were evangelized, with a canoe.” Technically, of course, it wasn’t a canoe but a kayak, but for Bergeron the spirit’s the same. “I hope that can bring a smile to a few people, and obviously I’m praying for everyone who is in need,” he said. His plan to say Mass was complicated when he found an open liquor store, went in to buy wine for the liturgy, and found that it’s illegal to buy alcohol before noon on a Sunday in Houston. Laughing, he said that he didn’t usually buy alcohol in the morning, so he didn’t know the rule. Afterwards, he said, he didn’t have enough time to gather people for Mass before he had to get to the location for his interview, since images of him paddling up and down flooded streets had already made him something of a local insta-celebrity. He said he was getting texts from parishioners who had seen him on TV, and who told him, “I guess we’re alive, and the Lord is alive, and the Lord is always with us as well.” Now, Bergeron said, there’s one focus of his prayer above all: For the strong rains to end. “There are a few psalms that implore the grace of God and the washing rain, but now we have enough rain, so we just want to repent for whatever it is we need to repent for and go on,” he said. Founded in Houston in 1972, the Catholic Charismatic Center fosters a spirituality grounded in the charismatic movement, featuring lively liturgies with upbeat music. Its congregation is roughly 80 percent Hispanic, and it’s been staffed since 1999 by members of the Companions of the Cross religious order to which Bergeron belongs. Launched in 1985 in Ottawa, Canada, by a priest involved in the charismatic movement named Father Bob Bedard, the Companions of the Cross now include roughly forty priests as well as a related community of sisters and a body of lay associates. Bishop Christian Riesbeck, an auxiliary bishop of Ottawa and the Vicar General of the archdiocese, is also a member of the Companions of the Cross, as is Bishop Scott McGaig of Canada’s military ordinariate.
Unless you are on high ground and well clear of flood waters from even higher ground, wouldn't it be better for you to evacuate now while you can? I know that's easy for me to say but my heart went out to the elderly residents of the nursing home in Houston sitting up to their waists in floodwater. They hadn't evacuated because they had been told to shelter in place. Have you a safe place to go if you do evacuate? I'm very impressed by the reports of Texans helping each other. So different from the reports of looting during Hurricane Katrina. Please God this nightmare will be over soon.

Dolours, My son, Christopher, and his wife Michelle, have been staying at Chellie's sister home which is at a higher elevation than Houston itself. They had been hoping to wait the storm out, but now the water has seeped into the home; there is 2 inches of standing water that is slowly rising. Who would have thought a tropical storm would have stayed put since Friday night feeding off the Gulf of Mexico and focusing its wrath on the Houston area for so long. Higher ground is not too far away but the nearby creek has overflowed so quickly today, it is too dangerous with 3 little children to be wading a mile or two. So they have called for a rescue by boat. It won't be until Harvey moves north Wednesday afternoon, that relief is in sight. And then think of the billions of dollars in damage. This will be a slow and painful recovery. Lord have Mercy!
I just wanted to add that my son and his wife's family are on dry land. For the most part, the women and children traveled by boat; the men waded through water waist deep. A co-worker of Christopher's sister-in-law took them in. Alleluia! Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!
