Pope St John Paul said that what the Church needs most is saints.

    I agree.

I suppose to some extent it does not matter to us the evil that others do.

What should concern us most is the good that we can do.

    That we should become saints

I think it's more a case of when the Pope talks to faithful Catholics who aren't afraid to speak the truth in charity (in this case the Polish bishops) he gets the message. If only Popes could be sent on retreat - a spell in Poland would do Pope Francis a world of good.

He may also feel obliged (perhaps mistakenly), to speak differently to non-believers or maybe even lacks the moral courage to lay it down straight. Alternatively, he may not be mistaken nor weak but this might well be the least ineffective way of making an impression on those not disposed to hear the truth.

I sympathise! Pope Francis is certainly bewildering. Whatever he says or does, Christ Jesus is taking care of business.

Hard to tell. He has a tendency to tell people what they want to hear. It's no secret that the Polish bishops are no fans of open Communion. When he visited the US funded hospital in Poland, he presented them with a painting depicting the disciples trying to prevent the sick reaching Jesus. His comments about gender identity came after his meeting with the Polish bishops. I suspect that the comments might have had a different tone had the meeting been with the German bishops. Tim Kaine's reference to "Pope Francis Catholics" tells us all we need to know about the effect his reaching out is having on the wider world. I have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that this new study about women deacons is a push to ordain women to a role that falls short of priesthood. That will put wind in the sails of the doctrine changers. It will also prepare us Catholics for the days when local Catholic churches are closed and the faithful given the alternative of attending Lutheran churches with women priests.

Even if his motives are pure as the driven snow, Pope Francis needs to spend more time with Catholics who aren't hell bent on redefining Doctrine. Doing so might be as good as a retreat for him.

The Catholic Church is the Church of Jesus Christ. It can't simultaneously be 'Broken' and 'sound'.

You didn't explain why you infer that Priests are intrinsically unable to control their sexual urges.
