I met friends for the TLM In Pittsburgh today, then they invited me out to lunch.

Interestingly one of the guys who met us for lunch also goes to the Novus Ordo (he’s not as rigid as the rest.) He came in late and I recognized him because I sat next to him at the Pittsburgh Oratory of St. Philip Neri mass three days ago.

He stuck in my mind because I’ve been bringing the book In Sinu Jesu with me to Adoration, and I had it sitting on the pew in front of us. At one point he had picked up my book to look at it then sat it back down. I pointed that out to him today and he said, “Yeah, I’ve heard it was a good book and I would have put it in my pocket if you weren’t looking...” A really funny, good guy.

    Brian,

I only check out the forum about once a week now. Your thread slipped by my casual review. I will keep your Mom and family in my prayers.

    Safe Under Mary's Mantle!

    Hi folks,
After 26 days in hospitals, my mom finally got sent to a long term acute care facility (LTAC) for rehab. She’s very deconditioned and tired. At 82 she had a quintuple cardiac bypass and aortic valve replacement, then spent two full weeks on total life support and a vent, developed pneumonia from the vent and two weeks on her back, and then went through some difficult “ICU delerium.”

She has a long road ahead of her before she’ll ever get back home, but miraculously, she’s alive. Thank God, and THANK YOU for your prayers!!

By the way, her kidneys were severely damaged by cardiogenic shock prior to and immediately following the surgery. This is when the heart doesn’t pump hard enough to perfuse the organs due to congestive heart failure. The Nephrologist thought she’d be on chronic dialysis indefinitely. Thankfully her kidneys restarted and functioned well enough that they were able to give her lasix for the last week and discontinue dialysis completely.

Looking back, there was a day her kidneys spontaneously started functioning. They had even withdrawn her Foley catheter because her kidneys had stopped producing urine altogether.

A priest from the Pittsburgh diocese I met three years ago at the Catholic Identity Conference in Weirton WV had come to my bedside and given me last rites according to the old Latin Rite when I had strokes in 2016.

I called him two weeks ago and asked him if, despite the fact she had already received the Annointing of the Sick from a hospital chaplain according to the Novus Ordo rite, he would be willing to come and provide the Last Rites according to the old Latin Rite. He gladly did so, within an hour of taking my call.

Her kidney function resumed the same day he conferred this sacrament!

    Praise God.

Mom has been home (my sister’s home near Harrisburg) since April 18.

“Granny” is doing well, she got in my sister’s car yesterday and then walked into a new primary care doctor’s office with a walker, and is not really using a wheelchair any more at all. She gets herself up and to the restroom and back by herself with a walker now.

Today, PT was in. He took granny outside for a walk with her walker for the first time and she walked the whole way down the driveway then the sidewalk to the neighbor's driveway and back. She made it back and up a quarter of my sister's steep driveway then we took her the rest of the way in her wheelchair, but that's pretty good nonetheless!
