Three cyclones—Kilo, Ignacio, and Jimena—are currently tearing it up in the central Pacific. On Sunday, all of them were a category 4. This is the first time the northeastern Pacific has seen three such hurricanes simultaneously. A fourth storm, tropical depression fourteen-e, is currently churning away southwest of the Baja California peninsula. Forecasters expect it to strengthen to a tropical storm soon. Not to get in some long drawn out debate, but I never understood what the difference is when it comes to alcohol, tobacco, pot, coffee for that matter, junk food, over eating, etc. They are all bad for your body and yet most of these are ok and not sinful and yet pot is. I am in no way advocating the use of drugs but it is hard to understand fully. It is hard to understand the sin there. It is illegal by man's law but does that make it sinful? Sin is all about intent. It is not sinful to drink because one can say they like the taste but if they enjoy the taste too much and are now inebriated it becomes sin unless by accident because there was no intent there to become drunk. It is not sinful to use tobacco and yet excess use destroys the temple. It is not sinful to over eat and be gluttonous and yet this too destroys the body. Substances that alter the body and the sin attached to them is an awful hard thing to understand. People use tobacco because they like the feeling of it and that substance did alter the mind and body. Same for caffeine. It is a stimulant drug. Any one see what I mean here? I have always wondered this. Can anyone bring some clarity on this for me? I have never been able to find a good answer to this question. I have heard that the part that makes it sinful to use pot per se is the drug industry and cartel behind the product and supporting that is supporting sin but then again we support sin beyond our control all the time. Taxes help out sinful industries. During prohibition for alcohol this too would have supported illegal cartels. I am sure the tobacco industry or coffee industry has also had forms of sin around it throughout the ages. Sin can be a tough thing to understand sometimes.
Illegal drugs alters the mind, just as to much booze does. This is what makes it sinfull. If the end of taking a drug, for a healthy person, is to put thier mind in a state where reason is dulled then it is sinfull.
so caffeine then wouldn't alter the mind in a dulled way but stimulate it? What about tobacco though? Doesn't it alter the mind to calm the nerves and what not? Alcohol would too after a certain amount. So there is a point of no return maybe for tobacco and alcohol but for illegal drugs it is instant maybe?
There's a lot of propaganda that marijuana is a harmless drug, milder than alcohol, but there are many anecdotes of its grave effects, particularly on young people whose central nervous systems haven't fully formed. One hears of paranoia, schizophrenic reactions, other psychoses with accompanying violence, sometimes fatal. Alcohol in moderation is a blessing but we know that its abuse is hugely problematic. Do we need another, potentially worse, example?
Crewdog, not to diminish that report but no more kids smoke pot today than when I was in high school in the late '70s (and I bet it's about 1/2 of them, not the %s that they self report when asked). The drug of choice today that is the problem is heroin. I am not kidding you. And Molly. They do the heroin because it's the cheap available alternative to Vicodin and there have been a few deaths in our area lately with kids being found by their parents in their rooms, dead. One kid on his front lawn (on a school night). I agree with Andy, I don't see anything wrong with pot or alcohol or cigs, in moderation. I don't know that they are sins. My instinct has always been that anything that God gave us is ok (the pot and tobacco are plants that people roll up and smoke) and the alcohol is derived but it was in the bible. I have friends who come to visit twice a year and they have nothing positive to say about Pot Legalization in Colorado. Like Black/Hispanic/Muslim/Gay Crime & Abortion Clinic Horrors, you will not see any negative reports on "Pot Problems" on CNNBCBS-NPR as it does not fit the Agenda of the Left. All I need to know is the same people who promote unlimited Abortion & Perversion & Immigration are the same people "All-In" for Pot!! GOD SAVE ALL HERE!!
We have family friends in Colorado who are divorcing because one of the spouses just wants to smoke pot all the time now. It's my understanding, that before it became legal he only smoked it occasionally. I think some people misinterpret "legalization" as "approval" and go overboard and become addicted. So sad. Anytime a family is ripped apart, I believe that the children carry scars that last a lifetime.
ok im going to admit to something that im not proud of. when we are talking drugs ive been there. i used to be addicted to cocaine, have used crack, acid you name it i have used most of it (back in my not so proud youth days). For me it all started with that non-gateway drug, which ended up being a HUGE gateway drug. Tobacco, alcohol have used plenty. There is a HUUUUUUGE difference between what happens on tabacco and alcahol and these other drugs. Anyone who says otherwise has either never sued them or is just delusional. Yes tobacco and alcohol are bad for you, but they do not even come close to what the other drugs including pot do.
It's wrong to abuse any of them, but you are simply wrong and the facts should be known as alcohol abuse is so prevalent and none of us should feel "ok" using it.
