In fairness to Erdogan, he was democratically elected and he did bring improvements to Turkey. I knew Kurds from Eastern Turkey who were very supportive of him. They were very devout Muslims. When I visited the area many years ago, it was very strict Muslim but those whom I guess were PKK supporters reminded me of far left activists.

The poor people in those disputed territories must be living a nightmare. Easy for us to talk about it because our loved ones are not being held hostage or being blown to bits. How forgiving would any of us be in their situation?

I recently listened to an interview with Scott Ritter former Marine Intelligence officer who was quite knowledgeable about global conflicts. He was interviewed by a Ukrainian journalist i think. He was incredibly persuasive in what he had to say. He says Israel has made a massive miscalculation. Their only way out is to immediately request a ceasefire and negotiate directly with Hamas. He says they are ill prepared for the kind of on the ground fighting they would have to do to rout out Hamas and the casualties to civilians with this bombing are going to be catastrophic. He absolutely condemns Zionism. He says Israeli leadership right now is worse than incompetent. Its quite an analysis.

 

I'm fairly sure that the Chinese ships Alastair Crook mentioned have no connection with the trouble in Palestine. It's a routine security deployment in the Strait of Hormus. Also, it seems that China doen't want to become entangled in the mess. Looks like they have seen the writing on the wall for Biden and are looking to better future relations with the US. War is hell, we as a country lived through it last on the soil of Europe in the 90s during the breakup of Yugoslavia. Before that, we had two more World Wars and we have literally always been a powder keg as a region, every generation experiences a war. I woke up early this morning and went out to enjoy the quietness of the start of the day and thought of the hostages scared and unable to see the breaking of a new day. I went to Mass and thought of all the silent screams, pleading and prayers of the hostages. I ate my breakfast went I came home and thought about what kind of food the hostages were being served and if they even got any. I stand outside listening to the rain and wonder what are they dealing with. I have been saying a lot of prayers to God for those held hostage that may be unable to pray for themselves. God have mercy on the hostages, their families and their captors.
