The translation question reopens a can of worms. However, the usual tactic of ignoring and waiting for the shock and confusion to die down will surely be in vogue. The real question is: Are there any cardinals willing to join together and bring it out into the public realm? Over the last 20 years ever since Benedict mentioned the "wolves" on the day of his election, a number of questions seeking disclosure and clarification seem to last less than a week and never are fully pursued or resolved.
Yes, it is an inconvenient truth. There is no way they will ever open a door to this, true or not. Talk about a can of worms. But it is good for ordinary lay people and clergy to understand such things. It helps us understand. Of course we always wondered about poor Benedict's resignation. Many people blamed the poor man for opening the door to the wolves, but this sheds a whole new light on it all. Luke 8:17 For nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid that shall not be known and come abroad.
Discussions begin, discussions end. But our prayers go straight to the throne of grace, and put JoeJerk in his place, the Pit of Hell!! Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
Excellent reminder. I just finished watching a German film " Rommel"--depicting the man who was a revered general during WWII. I was very moved by watching the plight of a loyal and honorable man being forced by evil leadership to act against his conscience. In the end they killed him but secretly because he was such a great hero to the people. I keep thinking of Our Lord's words to the women of Jerusalem in the 8th station: "if they do these things in the green wood what will they do in the dry?"
How do we know if the new translation is correct? It was based on someone listening to the Pope on video. People hear what they want to hear. It took 13 years for someone to notice this? Surely some cardinal who was present at the time and well versed in Latin would have commented at the time that the Pope called them criminals.
I believe Cardinal Burke was present when Pope Benedict read his resignation letter. Burke is a master of Latin. Surely, he would have commented on this issue by now!
Those sheep who pay attention so often have lost their trust in the shepherds. Most sheep do not pay attention to the "news" or "Church" blogs. Most of what we hear cannot be verified or altered directly by anyone of us. Whom do we trust? Let us not allow discouragement to win the day, but rather surrender ourselves to the two Hearts and pray earnestly. Our Lady's Triumph is near at hand!
