My Parish Priest shared a story where he received a call from the hospital asking his help for a man who was dying and who was very agitated. Father went to the hospital and anointed him, and told him to just keep saying, “Jesus, I trust in You”. Father repeated it himself about 10 times and said he could see the man’s lips moving and could see he was repeating it. Father later received a call from the man’s daughter who told him her father died peacefully.
My former PP was asked to go to anoint a dying farmer. When he arrived at the house, the family told him he had died and a few adult members were crying around his bedside. The priest however went ahead with the prayers and when he put the sign of the cross on his forehead he opened his eyes. The family ran screaming from the room. The farmer told the priest the devil had a hold of him and was dragging him away but let go when the priest blessed him. The priest then went looking for the family members and found them terrified and huddled under a bush at the end of the land. The priest told this story from the pulpit at a Sunday mass.
