Even if something significant were to happen this year, there's no guarantee that we will understand it's significance unless, of course, it is something extraordinary like the illumination of conscience. Although I can't recall the details, I'm sure there were some questions about Fatima's authenticity due to a significant event having gone unnoticed. Something significant happened towards the end of the reign of one Pope but its significance was overlooked because the main event happened during the reign of that Pope's successor. Was it the start or end of a war? Sorry for being so vague but my memory is failing me regarding the details.
I think you might be thinking about the start of World War II. Germany attacked Poland in September of 1939 during the pontificate of Pius XII, but Sister Lucy said the war would start during the reign of Pope Pius XI. Pope Pius XI died in February of 1939. The problem here is the distinction between what God considers the start of the war and what humans do. Historians date the attack on Poland as the start, but people were dying in the fighting for years before that. The Japanese were attacking China during the reign of Pope Pius XI and the Germans annexed several territories during his pontificate, not to mention the concentration camps had already started. In addition the "night illumined by a strange light" was the night of January 25-26, 1938.
A few things seem certain to happen very soon. 1) global war seems eminent at any moment. I have not witnessed anything like the staging of war and rhetoric in my life time. 2) global economic collapse seems eminent at any moment, as currency is being propped up by fake money in the stock markets and other maneuvers to give false hope in currency. 3) the church is in schism defacto and has been for years. Any world crisis would surely topple the fake church from the true church. I feel like we are domino's with the finger about to strike and when it does there will be no stopping till the last domino falls. The only thing not known is how much longer will the Mercy of God last? I think the Blessed Mother's pleas to the Holy Trinity has delayed this time of justice, but I am not counting on it much longer. How will we feel on D-day? Will be be at peace in prayer or in fear of a world we have never known? I anticipate much more prayer and study. I hope that I can be of service to my neighbors and those God sends my direction. I hope I can hear his voice and know what God desires of me in that moment and beyond. I hope I do not look back at the ways things were and that I keep my eye's on the moment and hope and trust in the Lord and his Mother.

I still believe that Pope Francis could be leading the church from the underground. IOW, there may come a time when we have a Pope Emeritus, the Vicar of Christ (Pope Francis) and an anti-pope. When I read Bl. Taigi's prophecy of Saint Peter and Saint Paul choosing a new pope, I believe that Saint Peter could be Pope Francis and Saint Paul could be Cardinal Burke, until things become clearer this is how I see it.

True, but the difference being the apparitions of the past that have been approved by the Church were accompanied by miracles to prove their veracity. The Miraculous Medal, the healing waters of Lourdes, the Miracle of the Sun, etc. Most of today's "seers" do not have these accompanying miracles, hence I pay them no heed. Brian, I just realized I never addressed your original statement. Well, I must admit that I thought that the Garabandal events could have happened this past holy week BUT all the while I knew that those most vested in them were stating that the timing was not correct. So, I am going to try my best to keep my guessing to a minimum and stick to approved prophecy when I post as best as I can (I can almost hear you all laughing). I still believe that the Garabandal events will happen but I woke up thinking about Saint Faustina's prophecy of the Illumination of Conscience and my thought was how could the world be shown a cross and not accept Christ. So I began wondering if the Warning might be a different event if it does in fact happen.
I believe in some unapproved revelations but I think this quote is something we ought to be reminded of every day! Thanks for posting it!
I am not discounting all unapproved sources, I would just advise people to proceed with extreme caution and don't give them the same type of belief you would to an approved one. Look how many people have been burned by the recent "seers" who have been proven false. I think the great majority of private "revelation" out there today is the enemy sowing seeds of confusion.

Sound advice IMO. Some could also be simply private meditations, or the unconscious speaking. I cringe when I hear mentions of the stock market, or "Obama will do this", "Putin will do that", or "buy gold" (OUCH!). Does that sound like something Our Lord would say from heaven!!?? Now compare that with the tone and choice of words in Fatima, Akita and (in my opinion) true unapproved ones such as Garabandal and Medjugorje!
