I wish I could help Mike, but I'm not familiar with Dublin hotels unfortunately. Years ago The Gresham was my favourite. But that was many years ago....

I used to layover at the Hilton in Dublin in my flight attendant days. Its very nice and a tram runs right in front of it that will take you to St Stephen’s Green and the walking street.

It's many years since I lived in Dublin but that's a nice area, convenient for the city centre. St Kevin's church on Harrington Street is about a 10 minute walk away, there's TLM there if you're into that.

I'm not familiar with the Hilton but Dublin has changed very much for the worse in the last few years. Be careful.

Yes. I have been warned by others. We were hoping this location was a bit safer. We have a pretty big group (8 adults and 7 children) and planning to be together mostly during day. We plan a day trip or 2 before we head north (Newry) for our daughters wedding.

You'll probably be fine, just be aware of pickpockets on Grafton Street. The city centre / O'Connell Street can be dodgy at night. There are a few nice restaurants and pubs near you if you like Irish music. The hotel staff will know.
Enjoy your visit and the wedding!

I'm not familiar with that part of the city so I'm afraid I can't be any help. I have been to the TLM a couple of times in St. Kevin's church on Harrington St. It's a parish church so they also have Mass in the ordinary form. Sunday morning TLM has a choir and all the bells and smells. Here's a link to the website: https://www.stkevinsdublin.ie/

I rarely venture into the city centre except to go to Mass. Others have given you some good safety advice. Don't be fooled by people with hard luck stories looking for money. They haven't just been released from hospital and need train fare, their children are not dangerously ill and their parent in a country town isn't at death's door. I usually keep some coins in my pocket to give to beggars at the church door. There will be beggars at the door of most city centre churches before and after Mass although not in St. Kevin's because its door doesn't open onto the street.

Thanks all. We are still planning week 2. A cousin has a bus driver connection that they used last summer when they toured Northern Ireland. Im hoping to get him for this trip. It provided a lot of flexibility.

Im looking for ideas /advice on what our week could look like. We are thinking it might naake sense to find air bnb homes and use as a base for a night or 2. We are thinking of visiting Sligo ( my wifes ancestral home), Galway area, along coast, Kerry/Killarney area, Dingle? , then across east (maybe stop along eastern cost), end in Dublin. We leave Newry on Saturday morning and depart Dublin following Saturday

    thanks.

Seems like Dublin is the epicenter of spiritual warfare in Ireland.

You should go to Knock. It’s about a 3hour drive from Dublin

Well depends on the time you have and ages of kids. Slemish mountain in Antrim is where Patrick was held captive. Amazing views and about an hour or so round trip. Could do day out in belfast as well with titanic tour etc. Heading up north coast you have giants causeway and amazing beauty

Also pop over to Annagassan and visit the Glyde Inn for some lovely food and amazing views out back. It is where CS Lewis had a few drinks and got inspiration for Chronicles etc. Will excite the kids if they are fans.

Croagh Patrick is a tough climb for both young and old if you're not fit. My niece climbed it when four years old.
