Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Hi, it is little old Julia again looking for help to find a particular version of the Magnificat to the air of the song we know as either, 'The purple heather' or 'Will you go lassie go.'

I think it starts and this is used in the chorus.
My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices, in the Lord God my saviour.
For He has looked upon us, and with Mary we are blessed.

I know there are many other versions and they are beautiful; but I want to use the words that are written to fit with this particular air. I want to use it on Wednesday the Feast of the Visitation.

I am searching UTube and have not yet found it. I have checked the Hymn books in Church and can't find it. Yet we have sung it from time to time at Church. It may have been in an older version of the Hymn books.

Because it is simple and easy to follow, and Julia will have to lead to start with in her fog horn for a voice, the 'purple heather' air would be doable.

I found plenty of videos of people singing the Magnificat to the tune of Wild Mountain Thyme but none with the lyrics "For He has looked upon us, and with Mary we are blessed". I found the lyrics of the David Haas version online but nothing with the chorus you are looking for. Maybe you can improvise?

I know Dolours. Thank you so much for trying to find it. It seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet.

But one wonderful big pleasant surprise to me is that so many other breeds of Christians actually sing the Magnificat.

I have found out the Gospel that day is the Magnificat. And the version of this hymn we used to have, had words like "and we too now sing with Mary, for with Mary we are blessed." It would have been an awesome hymn at the end of Mass.
God has other plans, so I am practising the words with the air you have shared in your posts.

The venue I have arranged for the Fatima Statue on the feast of the visitation is awesome if I can pull it off, and don't even want to disclose it until after the event. It is agreed; but problems could stop the statue being admitted. God needs to be active in this little adventure. Just like any time Blessed Mother is made present behind enemy lines for example Fatima, Lourdes and Medjugorje. I will reveal it afterwards what ever the outcome.

That search was a real joy for me. I came across hymns like "I'll sing a hymn to Mary" that I had almost forgotten because nobody sings them any more. Some, like the 12th Century hymn "Daily, daily sing to Mary" were completely new to me as were some lovely Protestant Hymns to Our Lady. I'm only sorry that I couldn't find what you were looking for.

I hope everything falls into place for you on the feast of the Visitation. Trust that Our Lord will help you pull it off in honour of His mother.

The feast day being the last day of May, will you be able to squeeze in Bring Flowers of the Rarest?

The lyrics of this hymn always brings a lump to my throat but I suspect that it might not top the charts at your mysterious venue:

Hi Julia, I often go to clonard monastery as it has a novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help every Thursday and it holds a 9 day novena in June. Anyway the Magnificat is always sung at the novena. If you look up clonard monastery on the internet Clonard.com, there will be a menu on right side of home page. Click on live web cam. When you go to this page there are recordings of masses and novenas. If you select one of the novena masses, you will see the whole novena and during it the Magnificat will be sung. Such a beautiful monastery run by The Redemptorists. I always feel at peace when I am in it. Hope this helps and you find what you are looking for as it may not be the version you are after. It is the only one that I know and I find it beautiful :)

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

As promised, I took the statue of Our Lady of Fatima to the Largest and main Hospital in the town where I live today, the Feast of the Visitation 31st May 2017.

We heard Holy Mass, and without a wordy tale of the adventure that took place in this visit, all went well. No obstacles were put in the way of Blessed Mothers visit. Praise God.

I printed enough copies of the hymn written to the Magnificat, and you can hear it as sung on my favourite video posted by Dolours with the four Priests singing the Magnificat earlier in the thread.

On the back of the sheet with the hymn I copied and pasted the Saint Luis de Montefort short version Consecration to Jesus through May, and before Mass asked the Priest for permission to sing the Magnificat after Mass. I also told him about the Consecration on the back of the sheet and said if he would like to use it on this special day how nice that would be. He laughed at me "Asking his Permission" and said we can do it as we want. Then the lay man who seems to run the organising there for the Catholic services objected because the Consecration as well as the hymn would make the service too long. And we agreed to just sing the hymn.

Oh, if you would like to know exactly what the Consecration says, you can check it out on a post by Mario on the 2017 Consecration thread, he posted it on 12th May. It is part way through the post but it is highlighted in bold and easy to find. You might like to make the Consecration too in honour of Our Lady of Fatima on this the feast of the Visitation.

Then I think the Holy Spirit got onto the Priest because just before he started saying the Mass, he said we will start with the Magnificat hymn, which we did. Then he said Holy Mass, and at the end before he gave the blessing, he said we will say the Consecration prayer, and we all joined with him.

I felt he was moved by the presence of Our Lady of Fatima, I though his voice cracked with emotion as he finished the Gospel, which today was the Magnificat as recorded in our Bible. It was all so awesome.

And now I feel Blessed Mother is there to help in a hospital as in many hospitals these days, the practice of terminating unborn babies, the use of the so called Liverpool Pathway which we know is euthanasia in reality. And she is there to comfort the dying, give the graces of healing for all those suffering mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally.

I hope you will praise God with me for such an amazing visit of Our Lady of Fatima today.
God bless all who have the patience to read one of Julia's long winded posts. LOL :)

Ah, Julia, I was bursting to hear how you got on. Thanks to your lovely account of the day, I felt like I was there with you. Thanks be to God and His Blessed Mother. And congratulations to you, too, for being the one chosen by Jesus to enable others pay special tribute to His mother. My guess is that you made the priest's day.
