So I finished my 3-week fast yesterday, and have now entered into my 3-month prayer campaign for freedom from addiction to mortal sin. Lent is now approaching and I’m preparing for that, I’m hoping to keep it much more strictly this year than other years. During both this 3-week fast, and a fast I tried to keep back during September, I had difficulty getting side tracked by certain things, like what my family was doing. I’m hoping to be much firmer this Lent and not let that happen. Also, in the past, I used to fast on Saturdays in honour of Our Lady, as I heard of St. Alphonsus de Liguori practicing that as well. I dropped the practice because I found that fasting on Saturdays wasn’t that common among Traditional Catholics, and it didn’t seem to make me think or meditate that much on Our Lady. Now however I want to take up that practice again after Lent, as it seemed to help me fall less into mortal sin when I did it, and I now have the practice of saying my 20-Decade Rosary on Saturdays to make them seem more Marian. Please pray I can stay the course during this Lent and the Saturdays after Lent, so that I can benefit more from these fasts, and gain better freedom and self-control.
