The Visitation proves that Mary is the Mediatrix of Grace - this is Mariology 1-0-1 it is so obvious in the passage in Luke's gospel (Luke 1 v39-56). It was Mary’s greeting – the word from her lips – in that instance mediated the grace of her unborn son to his cousin John the Baptist in Elizabeth’s womb. Origen (c185-c254) sees the visitation as the ‘proto-Pentecost’ – this describes the cascade of the spirit as flowing from Jesus through Mary and John and from John to Elizabeth. The chief actors in the story of the visitation, therefore, are ‘two babes in a womb’, the ‘Prince and the Prophet’, the ‘Word and the Voice’ (St Ambrose, a church-father). The first to recognise the Christ (through the mediation of Mary) is another child John the Baptist, his first disciple. (from my wee book)

It must be so much more difficult for Leo XIV to balance the role of disciple vs. Pontiff than it was for Leo XIII. After all, there is the incessant intrusion of the Media which wants to distort, influence, and shape his words and journeys so as to fit their agendas. Look at me, stuck at home due to my injury; able at will to direct thoughts and actions toward God with restricted daily agendas or duties to distract or get in the way. In this sense, the vacuum my injury has caused is a blessing in disguise. May Pope Leo be determined in creating daily space in his life to cultivate discernment and the prayer of the heart. John Paul II was practiced in this art. By such means, torrents of wisdom will flow from him to our benefit. Come Lord Jesus, fill the heart of your Pope with the inner joy and heavenly wisdom which he than can then share with us! Help him to leave political agendas behind for the sake of Your Church.
In his interview with Stephen Kokx, Father Kramer says that Vatican II's original design had two objectives: 1) to condemn communism 2) to define Mary as co-redemptrix Cardinal Ottaviani defined the original agenda.
