My wife and I watched 3 of our grandchildren (ages 3-1/2, 2-1/2, and 9 months ) this past weekend so that our son and beautiful daughter in law who is expecting their 4th in June (another girl.. 4 girls! ) could get away and rest. I will say takin care of little ones this age when you are in your 60s is not exactly the same as in your 20s and 30s. We are tired today but so happy we can be there to help and know our little grand daughters. Now, my son and wife take their children every Sunday to the 8am Sunday Mass (which is not an easy and we are so grateful they go). So we got them ready…. And off to Mass. They were very well behaved, even the baby! Now, my wife (Grammy) will take some of them to weekly Mass and even though they have not made 1st Communion yet, she has them come up with hands perfectly folded and bow before Jesus. It’s teaching them who is present before them… Even though they don’t understand yet. So, on Sunday the two older girls went up to Communion with us… hands folded. It was really beautifull, That gesture…. A older lady just in front of us turned after Mass with a big smile and handed each of the older girls a $5 bill. I was a little hesitant but then it brought back so many memories of my own grandparents who would do the same. The girls really don’t understand value but knew immediately it was a “gift” and a sign. I think it’s in a sense reinforcement and an act of kindness from this stranger to keep bringing these newest members to the Mass. My wife and I were immediately moved to drop a donation for the church in Ukraine that was in back of lobby. all in all, a positive event.. To me God showing His presence and love.
After I receive communion I always try to spend the time with Jesus but I will admit there are a few little children that I love watching going up with their parents. Sometimes their childish reverence is more MORE and so touching than I see from some adults. I’m sure Jesus has a special longing for these innocent souls
