I had my telescope out tonight, poking around the night sky. When I was done, I began to think as I gazed upwards. Such was the Glory of God that there are countless of stars, giant suns, billions and billions of miles apart in the universe. Between them lie such treasures like massive galaxies, clusters of stars, many with planets, nebulae, and on and on. Such is the love of God that on a tiny speck (smaller than a single grain of sand on the whole earth), tiny, insignificant creatures called humans exist, yet which turn out to be the greatest objects of God's love. And such is the Will of God that all of this exists - an immense universe. But God doesn't love stars or planets or quarks or neutrinos - he loves us humans! Is He insane? No. He just loves us, far, far more than we can ever realise. So why did He bother with it all? Simply, for us! So that we could exist, in accordance with His Divine Will and Plan. And we should remember to return a bit of that love to Him who Created everything! Seán
I was walking with the dog round Belfast Castle last night and got a good look at the sky over the city. As mentioned in 'Spirit Daily' the planets Jupiter and Mars are in conjunction near the tiny little disk of the moon as two very bright stars right besie the moon. It was very beautiful. I think like the star of Bethleham what is going on in the heavens can indicate events on Earth.Who could look at the stars and not think of God and Creation? Psalm 8 For the director of music. According to gittith [a]. A psalm of David. 1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings [c] and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Meditating on the beauty of creation always raises up no matter how difficult the times. None said it better than Anne Frank. 'It’s utterly impossible for me to build my life on a foundation of chaos, suffering and death. I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness, I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more" - July 15, 1944'
Lovely picture. Here in Ireland we were fortunate enough to witness the eclipsing of Venus by the moon (an occultation), which looked spectacular in the fading twilight!
