So there I was grumbling about the cost of taking the children away for a week during the May half term, when my husband says to me "Why don't you spend the money on something you really want to do then, go to the Holy Land for instance". I was aghast, I thought he was joking but no, he was being absolutely serious. He was offering to look after the children all by himself to allow me to go. Last year I took the children to Medjugorje, which was beautiful, although I embarrassed them by crying...alot. Twice we went up Apparition Hill, I need not have worried about the children at all they loved it, they were like mountain goats. So here I am this year with itchy feet again and wondering can I refuse/afford an opportunity to go to the Holy Land, I've have always assumed this was something I would do once the children had left home and yet here is my darling husband suggesting I go now. Thing is, I don't know where to start. It was only last year when our parish went so I don't see them going again for some time. So here I am hoping that you will have some guidance to offer me again.
so nice to see your post. I can't help you on your question...but glad you dropped by to post. have a blessed pilgrimage!
Awww thank you for replying PotatoSack I don't post but I do like to keep an eye on what Pope Francis is up to and the reaction to current events. But time just seems to gallop along and suddenly it's Lent again, and I find myself wondering what I've done during the year. I'm reading Marino Restropo's Catholics Awake at the moment, fascinating. How are you?
I'm afraid I can't offer any advice either but would be interested to see what others might have to say, as I would love to get to the Holy Land myself some day. My mother went years and years ago and had the most wonderful pilgrimage. My main concern would be safety, how safe is it to travel there these days?
I had the great joy and privilege of going with the Day with Mary pilgrimage 4 years ago. I don't think you can beat it. Here is some information: http://www.adaywithmary.org/ and the form: http://www.adaywithmary.org/images/Forms/HolyLand2015BookingFormRevised.pdf They leave out of London. We stayed a half a block from the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth and then right in Old Jerusalem where you can walk to the Sepulchre. It was a fabulous pilgrimage!!! We also visited Bethlehem, Jericho, and other places. We renewed our wedding vows at Cana.
Are you travelling from The U.S or Europe, Freedom ? Tangney Tours in the UK does excellent pilgrimages usually led by a priest so that you can have Mass and the sacraments in all of the places where Jesus walked. I went with my son 3 years ago... They have excellent guides in The Holy Land. They leave from Heathrow and Gatwick. Just like Magdalens comment above, we did the exact same... we got up one morning when in Jerusalem very early- 3 am and walked the short walk to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and had mass in the tomb itself.... an incredible experience.
