I am in Taize currently. I love the prayer life, song and simplicity. This place hosts thousands in the summer, in the winter like up to a 100. I realize on this pilgrimage, that people seeking true peace are something of a small minority. Jesus says the men of the world are more prudent in dealing with their own than the children of the light. It's true, we let ourselves as Christians get exploited constantly. We won't ever have peace as long as we get exploited, and the numbers aren't in our favor.
There was some very good news in my state of Idaho with the defeat of Prop 1 which would have legalized abortion until birth. The Catholic Church here was instrumental in its failure to pass. Our good bishop has a full-time lobbyist to promote life. Most parishes had masses and adoration during the last few months to defeat this evil. On the national level, the polls show voters were punishing Trump for backtracking on almost every campaign promise. As VP JD Vance said, voters don't want war, they no longer support Israel, and they want America first. Robert Barnes who worked in Trump's 1st administration called the blue tsunami months ago and said young people ages 18-30, who had strongly supported Trump, were now rejecting him. They made the biggest swing of any voter group. They're not embracing socialism, they're just rejecting Trump's policies. The young men in that group are converting to Catholicism in numbers we've never seen before. There are glimmers of hope. Barnes said too that those of Jewish faith in the US also voted against Trump because they do not want a war on behalf of Israel. Barnes also said that the only other 2 times there have been such a big defeat of the incumbent party was in 1920 because of US involvement in World War l and again in 1946 as a backlash against our participation in World War ll. He said this election was a repeat. Hopefully, the election sends a message to the world that while the neocon government wants war, the American people want peace.
This is helpful to know. I understand the need to reject .Mr Trump but it hurts to think they voted for the culture of death. They didn't think it through perhaps.
