Perhaps one of the most amazing, fascinating and yet not widely know apparitions of Our Lady is Our Lady of Las Lajas. I first learned about this from the "Explaining the faith" series by Fr. Chris Alar and the Marians of Immaculate Conception and I became totally enamored by it. The cathedral built around/above it on the steep hillside looks like it could be something out of Lord of the Rings.
This apparition is so intriguing but I can't find much about it or a really good picture. I'm especially interested in the stars on the mantle, since in the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the stars correspond to constellations. I wonder if it's the same for this one? And yes it looks amazing!
There is something about this apparition and shrine that touches me deeply. Maybe it's the child Jesus playing with another child, and the miraculous bringing back to life of the young child. And wow - what a shrine! It is the one foreign Marian site I would love to visit. Thanks for posting the videos
I don't know if the stars represent the same as Our Lady of Guadalupe but the image is very much the same.
Sorry, late-comer to this thread but feel it is so similar to Guadalupe in inspiring Faith in the intervention of the Blessed Mother, it's worth refocusing attention on this prodigy, Studying the events in Guadalupe and the events here, how can any Protestant, ne Catholic scepic, deny Mary's role in saving humanity? From Totus Tuus page today: "While Our Lady of Guadalupe's tilma (1531, Mexico) is one of the greatest acheiropoieta wonders—made without hands, no human paint, no brush strokes, Mary pregnant with the Savior. Our Lady of Las Lajas (1754, Colombia) takes the miracle even further and deeper—literally! During a fierce storm in the Guaitara River canyon, indigenous woman María Mueses and her deaf-mute daughter Rosa sought shelter in a cave. Rosa suddenly cried out, "The Mestiza is calling me!" and spoke for the first time—pointing to a glowing image that had appeared on the rock wall. This is Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Las Lajas (Our Lady of the Rosary of the Slabs/Rocks): Mary, crowned as Queen, tenderly holding the born Child Jesus in her arms. He reaches out a cord to St. Francis, while she offers a rosary to St. Dominic. Her mestiza features are strikingly similar to Guadalupe's. No brush strokes—even under close inspection. The vibrant colors are the natural hues of the rock itself, perfectly transformed and penetrating several feet deep (up to 4 feet or over 1 meter into the stone). If you scraped away the surface, the same image would continue underneath! Defying chemistry, geology, and physics, exposed to the elements for over 150 years with zero fading—it's like God signed His masterpiece directly into creation. Many call Las Lajas the "continuation" or "twin sister" of Guadalupe: where Mary once announced "I carry Him," here she joyfully presents the born Savior: "Come to Him through my Rosary!" Our Lady of Las Lajas, pray for us. Amen!"
This is wonderful. It is very much the twin of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The face is the same! It is so remarkable! The cloak and garment are magnificent. And its formation utterly miraculous. Why dont we ever hear about it?
