Been busy over last few days. I've dipped in and out. Has there been reckoning about Pope Leo or are we going to allow time to tell. After 12 years of Francis I am not in the mood for mincing words nor bold statements. Will we allow the man to show who's working through him for good or ill without presumption? I say pray, let's see what happens .

Looking through comments there is a lot of hesitancy etc. Padraig there has been some big statements made can you give any update to members about this? Let's all be adults and be perfectly clear about were we all stand.
It is not a time for hiding in the shadows.

The media in Brazil highlighted Pope Leo's appeal for respect for the dignity of immigrants, as if it were a direct response to Donald Trump's immigration policy. Frankly, I believe immigration is a point of convergence with the progressives who voted for Prevost, but I also think he could persuade Trump to ease immigration policies for those seeking to regularize their status and who have no criminal record. I believe many of them are not among the groups calling for the legalization of abortion, and they might support Trump if they weren’t living under the constant fear of deportation. Trump’s focus should be on banning abortion and its promotion throughout the entire country. Just my two cents on the matter.

I honestly believe the Orthodox Church holds a lot of spirituality we need, or at least that I need and appreciate. I don't know if we lost it, express it differently or what happened. It's like their modern saints never stepped out of the time of the Desert Fathers. When I listen to the books of their recent saints I find it incredible. There are so many of them too.

It's like they have this deep understanding of their nature and God, they have this ability to cut through confusion and illusion that is astounding. All saints have this I guess, but for me the Orthodox saints seem to articulate it really well.

This short clip gives me cause for concern. I always thought that all sinners were welcome in the Church, irrespective of their sin if they are repentant.

But the approach of Francis that all are welcome irrespective of their lifestyle choice is anathema because unrepentant sinners mock God.

That Cardinal Prevost agrees with Francis on this is a worry.

    But time will tell.

He was running interference for PF it seems to me. Trying to interpret PF's actions and words in the best possible way. If he wants to give the sacraments to anybody and everybody that is a different story. But he is not saying that here. Like you I continue to watch and pray but I have peace about him. At least at this point.

This is largely due to the contemplative monastic life centered on Mount Athos, which brings forth a theology from the inside out. Monastic life, immersed in contemplative solitude, becomes a light for the whole world, because Divine Providence acts so that its teachings may be spread throughout the world. I believe that the College of Cardinals in Rome could one day be replaced by a monastic structure focused on contemplation and discernment, in such a way that the image of our Church becomes a united, though divided, portrait shared with the Orthodox Church.

You could be entirely correct, I really don't know. Especially given the Carmel connection to everything. But when we are getting desert father type saints emerging in today's world they have to be doing something really really right. It's kind of the same thing with St. Charbel who belongs to the marionite church, which is close to Orthodox.

The Orthodox saints focus on Jesus intensely, often under the pressure of great suffering. I get that we shouldn't be worldly, but the whole thing of only ever serving one master seems to be really clear for them. I think blessed Acutis had this kind of gift too, he was over joyed once he got cancer. It's like always focusing on the Creator source instead of the outcome, a kind of prioritization of attention, which requires faith/trust.

Francis’ position on this wasn’t just “a worry,” it was manifest grave heresy IMO.

That PLXIV agrees is much more than a simple worry to me.

Prevost had enough time to choose May 13th, the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, as the date for his inaugural Mass as Bishop of Rome, but instead he chose May 18th, the birthday of John Paul II. To me, this is significant, as the last three popes celebrated their inaugural Mass an average of six days after their election. In the case of Leo XIV, the gap is ten days—almost twice that average. It seems to me that he is sending a signal that he intends to follow the doctrinal line of John Paul II: morally conservative and ecumenically committed to the Second Vatican Council. In fact, when I saw his official portrait released yesterday, I thought he somewhat resembled John Paul II at the beginning of his pontificate. As the years go by, he might come to resemble the Polish pope more and more.

I thought to myself: the man is in ironclad health—youthful, works out, plays tennis, and is an excellent swimmer. If he were a new John Paul II, what could his enemies do to stop him, given that we're not dealing with an elderly pope like Benedict XVI during his reign? What intrigues me is the complete absence of the United States in prophecies—whether for good or for ill—unlike John Paul II’s Poland, which our Lord mentioned to Saint Faustina as the place from which the spark would emerge to prepare the world for His second coming.

I read an article stating that Pope Leo's paternal grandfather was an immigrant from Sicily. I even wondered whether he might travel to Sicily for the Feast of Saint Lucy in December. Since the traditional candlelight procession of the feast symbolizes light amid the arrival of the winter solstice, this could parallel the appeal made in his first homily for the Church to be a beacon in the dark nights of the world. As the Feast of Saint Lucy falls on December 13, the eve of the Feast of Saint John of the Cross, Prevost could connect the two events as a call to the light of Christ in the midst of a disbelieving world’s darkness—a symbol of his ministry, especially considering that his episcopal ordination took place on December 14, 2014.
