    Luce (Luz), an anime-style pilgrim girl for the 2025 Osaka jubilee event. a very minor thing perhaps, but I found it cute and cheered me up. aesthetics and beauty are also a way of teaching theology

    Luz is just a common spanish name. it isn't light bearer like lucifer mans. I don't know how a japanese name can translate to spanish tho. and Light isn't a name in english.
    im confused now:sleep:but I have known people named Luz.

    Whoever thought this was a good idea is totally disconnected from reality, imo. There's nothing cute here. And we're gonna be bombarded with it just like we were with the "3 eyed thing". God help us ~

    I zoomed in on the image, but I couldn’t clearly identify what’s in the eyes of the friendly mascot. Is it a seashell? What’s the meaning of the symbol he’s holding in his hand?

    Since when did the Catholic Church need a mascot.
    I find it creepy, like the oversized eyes popular with Japanese animators who make children's cartoon characters appear less human. This character is deceptive.

    Dr. Taylor makes fun of this mascot. He says the gas tank is empty and this is just another sign of them being tired. Start at 54:40, the whole episode is pretty good though.

    Then one of the disciples said to the Lord, “Jesus, I’ve got a great idea. A little doll with big eyes that’s like super cute. I ran it by the marketing people and they think it’ll be the biggest thing since baby Yoda.”

    And the rest of the disciples fell on him and beat him with fists and mockery.

    If religion and a marketing department had a baby it would be this. Catholicism doesn’t need a mascot. We look to the Lord. We don’t need a marketing strategy. We have the Gospel. We don’t need gimmicks. We preach the Good News that Jesus died and rose again.

    This image is the sound of an uncertain trumpet. How can the Vatican say they’ve lost the thread without telling us?

    The young are crying out for truth and the Church feeds them a Precious Moment.

    Look, I’ve had plenty of bad ideas in my life. I don’t blame the guy who came up with the bad idea. I want the name of the second person who approved this. And the third and fourth.

    I thought it was a joke. Is this a reflection of the infantile state of our church. A three year old could do this. Think of all the beautiful religious art in the Vatican and this is what they pick. It says everything. Who was it said only beauty will save the world yet. We are in a sad state right now.

    Far, far from sacredness. If this is the "mascot" that was chosen to represent the 2025 Jubilee year, every Catholic should be very concerned. The majority on Catholic Twitter/X feel as though this cartoon character is degrading to the Holy Catholic Church. :(:cry:

    they hired a designer? oh no :unsure:. I thought some well-meaning group of bishops came up with the idea. if it's an official religious event emblem and it was purchased that's almost simony. also it shows no love to pay someone to help you attract those you love
