Please pray for my daughter-in-law's great aunt, Patricia. She is near death, but refuses confession saying God already knows her sins. I texted Michelle saying that yes, God already knows her sins, but through confession He washes them away: Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities and will remember their sins no more!
It's baffles me as to why a Catholic would refuse confession that close to death. Why chance it? Prayers going up.
Prayers tonight making a local day retreat and Mass to LaSallette in Enfield NH tomorrow (sadly they have sold the property and will be closing their doors next week). Will keep Patricia and the intentions of MOG members in prayer.
Sorry to hear they are closing, MC. We have a LaSallette Shrine here in MA, they also have a lovely Christmas light display, and host retreats. I have visited our shrine since I was a child, and it has always been a beacon of hope for the community. Such a loss for NH.
The lies of the enemy are insidious. On the other hand, maybe a confessor "growled" at her the last time she went. The devil is always throwing excuses at us to skip confession this week or stop going altogether because Father can be "so humiliating". It doesn't take much to break a habit. Good habits may seem very unspiritual, but they are a lifeline if and when spiritual dryness sets in. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
The closing of the retreat house is very sad. I remember when St Paul's retreat house closed near here. The retreats there had been wonderful. Sigh. I am glad you have a chance to do a day retreat.
