TODAY IN GARABADNAL HISTORY July 19, 1962 We got to Garabandal at nightfall in sufficient time to be present at the first and only apparition of the day, involving Ceferino's daughter [Loli]. She kept us up until after 4:30 in the morning. And at six o'clock, when I had barely fallen asleep, Jacinta's father called me to pray the rosary at the calleja. The girl was waiting there, seated on the rocks. We prayed the rosary in the solitude and silence. Then we went to the church and in front of its still locked doors, we said the prayers for a visit to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Then I understood the sacrifice that was entailed for a girl like Jacinta to get up every day at six in the morning to go to the cuadro and pray the first rosary of the day there. Although in the beginning this had been a command from the Virgin, it had not been repeated for months, and still the girl continued going just to please the Lady in blue and white. Conchita’s Locution with Jesus on July 20, 1963 (Conchita): “I was making my thanksgiving and praying for things. He answered me” . . . I asked Him to give me a cross since I was living without suffering — except the suffering of not having a cross. And He answered: Yes, I will give it to you. And with much feeling, I went on praying . . . And I said to Him, Why is the Miracle coming? . . . To convert many people? He answered: To convert the whole world. C— Will Russia be converted? J— It also will be converted; and so everyone will love Our Hearts. C— Will the Chastisement come afterwards? (He didn’t answer me.) C— Why do you come to my poor heart, without my meriting it? J— I certainly do not come for you; I come for all. C— When the Miracle comes, will it be as if I were the only one who had seen the Virgin? J— He answered me: By your sacrifices, your patience, I will allow you to intercede for the accomplishment of the miracle. C-And I said to Him: Wouldn’t it be better for me to be with all the others; or if not, that You don’t use any of us to intercede? J— No. C— Will I go to Heaven? J— You should love much and pray to Our Hearts. C— When will You give me a cross? (He didn’t answer me.) C— What will I be? (He didn’t answer me. He only told me that everywhere that I would be, I would have much to suffer.) C— Am I going to die soon? J— You have to stay on the earth to help the world. C— I am very small. I couldn’t help in anything. J— With your prayers and sufferings, you will help the world. C— When does one go to heaven? . . . When one dies? J— One never dies. (I thought that we didn’t go to heaven until we were resurrected.) Today in Garabandal history: July 21, 1962 Notes taken by the lawyer from Palencia, Luis Navas Carrillo at Garabandal. (From “She went in haste to the Mountain”) Another apparition, in which prayer for the deceased was included, took place on July 21, 1962. We owe the information concerning this happening again to Don Luis Carrillo. It started with Loli who went into ecstasy at eleven o'clock at night followed by another involving only Conchita. It started in her house, as was so often the case during the numerous apparitions of Garabandal. Then, again following the pattern of many other apparitions, Conchita left her home in ecstasy and walked through the various streets of the village. She went to village church, made a complete turn around it and headed for the cemetery. There she went to her knees at the gate where she stayed for a while before departing for the calleja or sunken lane.
TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY :JULY 22, 1961: BEGINNING OF THE PERSONALIZATION OF THE ECSTASIES. We know that, on this day, for the first time and very often later, the visionaries in ecstasy went two by two: Conchita and Mari-Cruz; Mari-Loli and Jacinta. Excerpted from 'Garabandal' Book, by J. (From “She went in haste to the Mountain”) July 22,1962 (From “She went in haste to the Mountain”) Saturday passed without notable episodes, until 1:00 at night when the first ecstasy occurred. It was Loli's, in the kitchen of her home. The lawyer from Palencia described it: It was something marvelous. I couldn't imagine anything comparable. The silence was absolute and the attention complete. The girl offered the Vision whatever had been deposited on the table for this purpose. I had put there a collection of holy cards with the titles of the litany, which I had bought in Cabezon de la Sal. With greater dexterity than a card player, the girl gracefully opened the holy cards in a fan and held them up that way to be kissed by the Vision; Loli was completely transfigured. Her face was radiant and full of light; the expression didn't belong to her, but to an angel. It seemed as if she were radiating a supernatural halo and we were all immersed in a sensation of serenity and peace as if being under the gaze of Our Lady. Concerning Conchita's ecstasy, which followed Loli's, Luis Navas writes: She went out of her house and through the various streets of the village; she made a complete circle around the church; she went to the cemetery and knelt at the gate. We went with her to the cuadro, and from there she descended backwards in a marvelous ecstatic dance. The rosary was recited and later we sang the Salve Regina. The voice of the visionary didn't belong to this world. There were still other trips through the village. The girl constantly smiled in an ineffable way, very different from the almost ironic way she often smiles when not in ecstasy. Toward the end, when she began giving back the chains and medals, she noticed she had dropped a medal. She asked the Vision about it and was astonished at the response she received, since she was heard to say, "But how could I lose it near the church if I haven't gone out of the house?" After the ecstasy she was also astonished in seeing us all perspiring, while she had no sign of exertion or fatigue. And the affair had lasted until 4:30 in the morning! We went to bed happy since the Virgin had presented us a night which for me was happier and richer in the interior life than July eighteenth itself.
TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY : JULY 23, 1961: THE CHILD JESUS AND THE VISIONARIES, THE FIRST OF THE RARE "COSMIC PHENOMENA" AT GARABANDAL Another first on this Sunday: beginning of the "cosmic phenomena" at San Sebastian de Garabandal. AWAITING APPROVAL Some Anti-Garabandal people say this apparition is “not approved”, that is NOT true. There has been no official Vatican ruling yet because in 1966 Conchita was summoned by the Vatican and questioned by Cardinal Alfredo Ottaviani and his staff (which included the Pope’s Personal Secretary) for over 2 hours, convinced or her story, they requested a meeting with Pope Paul VI. Conchita and her Mother, and Dr. Medi met the Pope in a private meeting the next day. At the end of that meeting, the Holy Father came to her and announced joyfully in a clear voice, "Conchita, I, the Pope, bless you and with me the whole Church blesses you." The Vatican feels that it would be prudent to wait until the Miracle date is fulfilled before approving the apparitions. So, you can honestly say that it is “awaiting approval”.
ST. JAMES APPEARS ! July 25, 1961, notes taken by the lawyer from Palencia, Luis Navas Carrillo. St. James appeared ! On the following Wednesday, July 25th, all over Spain there was a big celebration: the feast day of its patron and Father in the Faith, the Apostle St. James. It was the second time during the apparitions that this holy day took place in Garabandal. Would something happen on this day? Leafing through a mixed-up stack of references and testimonies referring to this time, I found this statement from María Herrero de Gallardo, who wrote down what she heard from Father Valentín months later: “You see, Señora, that at times I tell you things that I don’t tell anyone else, since I know that you receive them well and think about them, while many others find them ridiculous. For example, I remember the feast day of St. James the Apostle. It was almost midnight and about twenty people were watching the girls’ ecstasy. At times I looked at the sky, a beautiful summer sky covered with stars, with here and there a little white cloud drifting by. Suddenly — I saw this with my own eyes, and the persons that I mentioned also saw it — our patron St. James appeared on a beautiful white horse, like the tradition described in Spanish history. For a few minutes he seemed to make a path across the sky, disappearing at times behind white clouds and reappearing again. Padre Pio affirms Garabandal to a PH.D in confession. Joachim Bouflet,PH.D. went to Padre Pio for confession in July of 1968. Padre Pio told him "Pray to the Madonna. Consecrate yourself to the Virgin of Carmel." "Yes, Padre, I pray to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. For that matter, I would like to become a Carmelite." He didn't comment on this but repeated with insistence, "Consecrate yourself to the Virgin of Carmel who appeared at Garabandal." Bouflet:"So it's true?" Padre Pio : "Certo e vero!" Question. You have said that you know the year of the Warning. Can you tell us if it will occur in the next few years or is it still in the distant future? Answer. No. I can't say anything. Q. Did the Blessed Mother tell you not to speak about the Warning? A. No, she didn't , but, because the Warning and the Miracle are within the same year, I feel it inside not to say anything. Q. How do you know the Warning and the Miracle are within the same year" A. During an apparition-I don't remember just when- the Blessed Virgin told me.
TODAY IN GARABADNAL HISTORY: JULY 28,1962 : Fr. Enrique Valcarce Alfayate Records events , of which he was an eye witness. "The phenomena as a whole were for me something tremendous and amazing. The fast walk over really rough terrain, almost inaccessible, strewn with the worst obstacles . . . running at times at incredible speeds, both forwards and backwards, as if the girls had wings on their feet . . . with their heads tilted sharply backwards, with their eyes unblinking and fixed constantly on the alleged vision . Was there any indication of how long the tribulation will last before the warning? I am thinking it will last 3-4 months.
No specific time period was given, but my feeling is that we have to see all 3 events happen first before it really begins . ( The Synod, The return of Communism, and specifically the Pope returning from a trip to Moscow,and hostilities breaking out in Europe.
TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY: JULY 28, AND JULY 29, 1961: "TWO EVENINGS OF TEARS" As was promised, the Blessed Virgin, since July 4, was gradually explaining to the children the Message she had revealed to them. This catechesis was absolutely necessary, considering their young age and the small amount of religious knowledge they had. What, indeed, did the words "sacrifice," "penance," mean to them, and how, in practice, were they "to be very good"? The ecstasies of July 28 and 29, 1961, were to represent a kind of particularly intensive course in which only Jacinta and Mari-Loli took part. For the first time Our Lady showed them "the Cup filling up with the wine of the Wrath of God." She spoke to them of the trials the sins of humanity would eventually cause, in a time we may call "time of the Pre-Warning" (or Pre-Aviso). Mary was also to reveal to them later, the unique and inescapable event of the future Warning, a stupendous phenomenon and experience called "Aviso," of both cosmic and moral-spiritual (interior) dimensions, that would affect the whole of mankind. We could die from the effect of the emotion aroused by it. It would place us before our conscience thus "scanned" in the light of God revealing to us the evil we had done and of the good we had not done, in our lives. Through its frightening physical dimension and its prodigious divine interior action, we would know that the Warning really came to us from God, but also that it will still be a "warning of grace and mercy!" Finally, the Blessed Virgin recalled the final Chastisement of which mankind would be the object . . . should it persist in refusing to amend its ways. The first of the two "Nights of tears" occurred at the cuadro, and the second at the Pines. Sari and Mari-Carmen, mandated by Our Lady, were the only ones authorized to stay by the visionaries. Girls hold Mary’s crown ! (July 29, 1961 ) "One of them finally rose to her feet and took the Virgin's crown in her arms. The crowd saw her go through the motions of examining it, and lift it onto her head. The crown was passed from hand to hand among the children. The spectators could see that it fitted some heads better than others. An eyewitness recorded the scene. "They raised their hands as if proffering something. One folded her arms. There was a sound of kisses. They stretched out their arms, smiling; now, they were listening; they started to cry. After eleven minutes they came to. We ran over to them and observed that one still had wet tear-stains on her cheeks. 'Why are you crying?' we asked. But she did not answer." * "Who did you see?" someone asked Mary Loli. "We saw Our Lady of Mount Carmel. We held her crown in our hands." "We were still talking to them," recalls a spectator, "when they had their third vision of the day, and went into a trance again. This time, everything they said was heard quite clearly. The Virgin brought the Infant Jesus. They took His crown. The little girls remarked that it was small. They asked His age. TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY : JULY 31,1961 For the first time, the Visionaries in ecstasy move about on their knees. They recite the Rosary without having learned it, without prayer beads, without counting on their fingers and without making any mistakes regarding the mysteries, as well as the number of “Ave Marias”.
