The Black Death is bearing down on a little village.

The parish priest is elderly ("48").

A teenaged boy in the parish (14) has been (prior to the plague), the priest believes, destined to become a priest.

The Black Death is expected to sweep over in a week's time.

Parish priest, having an insight that he will not survive, and wishing a young and healthy person who MIGHT survive unscathed, consecrates the teenaged boy as a priest ... conferring on him all rights and privileges as a priest.

    Yes? No?

It is bishops who consecrate priests. I don't see how this would be valid. If the priest dies another will be appointed to his parish by the bishop.

Not in the Catholic Church. Not valid. Protestants do this kind of stuff. My neighbor's protestant pastor used to be Catholic, but decided he knew better than the Church so started his own church in my town. He is now very old and there are a lot of assets with the land and buildings, so he "laid his mantle" over his son in law in front of all the congregation, and now his daughter and son in law run that place.

I think protestants are more likely to be saved than novos ordo people . I know some very holy protestants and they have strong faith. Whereas the older generation I know from my local Novus ordo just go to church and think " it's enough"
