Henryk Siemiradzki - scenes from the times of Jesus

I have just recently found the paintings of this Polish artist (1843-1902).

I find his depictions of the New Testament inspiring and evocative. Like going back in a time capsule to the times Our Lord walked the earth.

By the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Mary of Magdalas servants. Some scholars believe Mary of Magdala was never a prostitute but because she was of Greek origin and adopted Greek customs caused scandal among the more orthodox Jews.

Thank you! I especially like Our Lord with the woman at the well. The painting literally breathes. I get the same sense from the Martha and Mary painting. You almost miss Martha. There is something very mysterious and deep there. Thanks so much.
