I appreciate all thoughts on wearing a mask... we may not have all evidence in.. but I say to myself “ what would Jesus do” I think he would wear a mask- even if it helps just one person
No evidence that masks help, unless it is a N95. Masks are just the first way that governments are trying to control the population. What next? No Church like places in the USA still have? This is communism. It is fear mongering. Jesus did not fall into line with either.
I cannot either, but we as the Mystical Body of Christ are on our way to Calvary. Christ was buffeted in all ways for us. No servant is greater than the Master. I do understand why people object to masking, though. But it’s not my issue.
Me either but boy is there passion over this issue. I have a friend who is ready to man the barricades and "go to the mattresses" over this. She is against it. Lots of conflicts right now among her circle of friends. I guess I just want to skate over it. I know hard times are coming as the old song says and more coercion and demands from the nanny state but in such a volatile environment where people get literally unhinged i prefer to try to keep a low profile praying to discern at every moment what the Lord is asking of me. So far I am wearing the mask where I am requested to.
I wear my mask as well ( I actually have quite a collection at this point ), in order to go about my business. Nevertheless I have strong feelings about the sinister nature of mandated mask wearing.
True. I have strong feelings about the masks but I'm not sure it's the hill I'm prepared to die on. I think we probably need to reserve our energy for bigger things to come, and ones more closely related to our faith.
Agreed, although I am now either wearing a plastic shield (set at the chin reaching to the bridge of my glasses) or nothing on my face! am seeing more and more people forego this "show". I am taking it off at daily Mass. Perhaps 1/2 the congregation is without mask at daily.
Michael Matt has something to say about masks towards the end of this video. He also mentions the foolish Bishops in Florida threatening to shut down a traditional catholic parish if they don't wear the masks, including little children.. Florida has no mask mandate by the governor, it is the Bishop himself imposing it with the threat of closure with non compliance to his demand. I came back from Florida last week and was attending this parish when this priest was threatened by the Bishop. It was so sickening. What will happen when they try to force vaccination to enter the churches? This priest's hands are tied under obedience and is under threat of closure which he does not want for his flock as that would mean they would be denied the sacraments. I just can't imagine what it is like in Ireland and the suffering that is imposed there with the denial of the sacraments.
Hey, When I walk into Church Ill wear a mask. But when I sit down and am 6 feet from everyone else( just like eating in a restaurant) I will take off my mask. When I go to communion and exit the church I'll wear my mask. I'll go along to get along so much. But I do know some that will not wear one and I applaud them. Furthermore, I've been to a few Catholic Chuches that still have holy water in the basins and have seen some faithful that will only receive Our lord on the tongue. I applaud both the priest and the soul that still does honor Our Lord in this way.
I do not believe he would. Jesus is more concerned about his Church being a place of prayer not of political correctness. Jesus is more concerned about the needs of the soul in His Church than the needs of the body. Just my 2 cents.
Church is limited to 10 people inside during our lockdown hopefully relaxing May 20th. The mass is live streamed and FM broadcasted about 2KM around our church for those in their cars. Communion is given to all that attend, hand only and people from cars line up and go through one church entrance and out another door close by about 25 feet away. Funny thing is 98% wear masks walking from car to the line up outside right up to the point they get to the priest. Then they have to remove it or slide it below chin in order to receive our Lord. Then put it back on for the walk back to the car. I find it hilarious since the only point you are near anyone is when you remove your mask. So silly. Every retailer or business requires a mask and I am not going to pick this relatively small battle to fight everywhere I go. (I hardly go anywhere anyway) I never wear one outside for any reason, unless I need to wear one for the short walk to a restaurant patio table (which are currently closed) then remove since eating and drinking. It all optics but the mask mob believes it's backed up by science just because they are told what to think and won't question what they are being told.
I've been doing as you have been, but yesterday I had enough. I arrived to Mass 40 minutes early as my son was altar serving and I see a few people, spaced many rows apart, by themselves sitting there with masks on. I literally hit my limit, I walked him up to the altar, turned around and saw them sitting far apart with masks on in this huge church and ripped my mask off and said (audibly, by mistake) "I'm so sick of this"... a couple of the people looked up at me, took theirs off too and smiled. I left it off the whole Mass, my wife came in and took hers off and a few friends saw and kept theirs off as well. Father just smiled and said nothing, he put the hymnals and bibles back in the pews for Mass yesterday but still no holy water in the fonts. The Bishop lifted the dispensation as of Pentecost Sunday so hopefully the nonsense social distancing and masks will be gone soon as well...enough!
Often one wonders which is worse wearing a mask or risk church closure, I think the worse outcome is not being able to attend mass. A mask is an external item; it does not get inside of us. No one can control us because of such an item, they can only do so because internally we are already collectively weak. Christ tells us, he who the Son has set free, Is free indeed. What would be the outcome if a significant outbreak was in a church, where the faithfully do not wear masks or sanitise? One can only guess, churches would be closed and may be priests ordered to hand over the keys to the bishops. We would then have a battle getting the churches reopened. For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7
