  6. The phrase is drawn from a homily of Bede: "Vidit ergo Iesus publicanum, et quia miserando atque eligendo vidit, ait illi, Sequere me." "Jesus looked at the publican, and because he looked with mercy and choosing, said to him, 'Follow me.'"

The longtime archbishop of Buenos Aires is the son of middle-class Italian immigrants and is known as a humble man who denied himself the luxuries that previous Buenos Aires cardinals enjoyed.
He often rode the bus to work, cooked his own meals and regularly visited the slums that ring Argentina's capital. He considers social outreach, rather than doctrinal battles, to be the essential business of the church.
Catholics are still buzzing over his speech last year accusing fellow church officials of hypocrisy for forgetting that Jesus Christ bathed lepers and ate with prostitutes.
In a lifetime of teaching and leading priests in Latin America, which has the largest share of the world's Catholics, Bergoglio has also shown a keen political sensibility as well as the kind of self-effacing humility that fellow cardinals value highly, according to his official biographer, Sergio Rubin.

I have just been listening to a homosexual priest who is living with his partner and Christine Odone who hates traditional Catholicism and both are delighted at the choice. So I am probably not going to be.

Steve, I saw what you posted earlier.
Could it be that someone might have it in for our new Holy Father?

    I think i know what you're saying.
Let us pray that these two among others who think they know the kind of Pope they're getting discover themselves severely disappointed.

Christine Odone is a nightmare and she has something to say about everything. She seems to think she is an authority on many subjects. For years I have known that she is actually anti-catholic, as to be against tradition is anti-catholic and would probably be better off in a so called 'free church' (do what you want kind of church).

However, some times (could count on my thumbs) she has said something that for a second made me wonder if she had been converted.

I think she may have misinterpreted what the pope meant when he spoke about eating with tax collectors/prostitutes etc,

Many liked Jesus to begin with, that is, until he challenged them.

I think he is a saint.:)

I woke up last night and prayed for him alone in that big huge palace with the weight of the world on his old shoulders. I am sure it is the very last place in the world he wanted to end up at his age, poor man. :(

In fact they say a the last conclave and this one he begged them not elect him.

He fell out with the Argentinian President over homosexual adoption saying it goes against childrens rights and is very much against abortion. :sneaky:

How 'unfairly'? The Pope appears to have been quite open about his dislike of the TL Mass in defiance of the former Pope and has stated (According to the Anglican Bishop of S. America) that we 'need' the Anglican Church and that there is no need for an Anglican Ordinariate) Take a look at the CathCon blog for some of the worrying liturgies over which he has fairly recently presided. This is the seventh Pope in my lifetime and I have never felt anything but affectionate obedience for any of the other six. Now I am worried.

Does this item give anyone the right to call this man the "anti-pope", or judge him unfairly, before he's done a single day in office ? Again ,lets judge him on his Theological actions in office as Pontiff. If you're so worried, join me and millions of others in praying for him ,and Our Blessed Mother's guidance and protection of him.

I have not called him by those names and I can assure you that I am praying for him. Who is the slanderer here?

Steve , I did not slander you, I did not say you said that you called him that,I just asked for some patience before judgment, and prayer.

Are you worried about the Pope to be flexible about the liturgy? Because in terms of doctrine this man is very conservative.

Steve I really hear what you are saying, I no longer attend my local parish because of the abuses I have seen,..know of  There are so many that are doing things and they think they are doing good and they don't understand when they do these things they are taking away from the sacred priesthood. I pray for thier enlightenment, and the priests will have much to answer for. I love and attend the Latin Mass where I know all the rubics are being followed. When I saw the picture of the Pope posted by someone on this forum of the new Pope kissing the foot of the handicapped child,..that said it all for me. We need to give him a chance,..we may not agree with everything,...but we have to remember obedience to the Holy Father.
