My friend works there as a psych tech. It is a hospital for the mentally ill. There are also many homes built on the grounds of the hospital where the families of the employees live. The grounds are full of single family homes and my friend lives on that property

The way I see it, we are in the high risk category so it makes sense for us to take preventative measures. Better to do what we can now so we won't be taking up much needed hospital beds later. I'll be in hibernation if there's an infection in our area. Dr. Campbell said that the best way to prevent catching or spreading the virus is to avoid social interaction (at least that's my take on what he said). I will only leave my home to call on vulnerable relatives who will also be in hibernation.

The only thing to recommend it is that it has locked doors. Nothing else. Apparently it is in a sprawling, heavily populated residential area? Mesa County? Madness.

Federal Nuttiness. Has the USA no deserts? No lonely places?

I think it was discussed here:

My own belief is that the virus is widespread in the USA and the Government knows it. The lies there are nearly as bad as China.

The figures there simply don't add up. The big hush up.

Well my plan is to work on in the hospital and if they need nursing volunteers to be at the very head of the line.:):)

I would so love to end my life helping folks. Such a joy.:):)

I hope the dogs may manage without me.:);)

But I will try to be prudent as I can, but sometimes love demands a certain dashing imprudence. I am single. No family. I can well afford to do this. I am well able and very, very willing.
I do so hope they keep the Churches open though. Keep saying mass.

Love, as St John tells us, banishes fear.

The difference between Italy and other Countries in the West is that Italy is being open and honest about things. Other places are not.

The Iranians went ahead with their elections last Saturday and are still holding mass meetings and starting to blame other countries (the USA).

It's an open asylum. The Mad Mullahs are the worst.

Just like Spain during the Spanishflu. They told the truth so it got the name Spanish flu.

It's harder to keep secrets in Italy.

I've started watching some news programmes since this virus scare hit Italy. There was something today about one or two people in the UK who had been repatriated from Japan. I didn't catch all the report but it seems that they tested positive despite having been cleared as not having the virus. I thought I also heard something about one or two people in Japan having been released before the result of a positive test result. Those people had used public transport before being brought back into isolation. Maybe I misunderstood because I was only half listening to that news report.

Do you fancy wearing a hazmat suit?

The original roots of the word, 'Quarantine', comes from Ancient Latin. 'Quad' , means forty days..a holy number from scripture.

They should stick to the forty days. it is scriptural

This was always the way to deal with plague. Dating back to Ancient times. Forty days. Not seven.

    Not fourteen.

    40 days; 40 nights

    40

Yes. Maybe I'm imagining it, but didn't the practice of quarantine begin in Venice? I've a vague memory of having been shown some Island or area near Venice where ships suspected of being infected with plague were kept apart for a certain length of time before being able to unload their cargo.

A general surgeon I knew back home from my residency days was just on a medical missionary trip to the Philippines. He got sick on his way home, they dropped him off in Japan, and he died there. We suspect he picked up Covid 19 while in the Philippines. His name was Rodolfo, and he was Catholic, if you could spare a prayer for him.

Divine Mercy Chaplet for all those in danger of this virus.

Don't forget to get hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, and betadyne (a surgical scrub, general disinfectant).

Wow, what a memory you have!

The word quarantine comes from a seventeenth-century Venetian variant of the Italian quaranta giorni, meaning forty days, the period that all ships were required to be isolated before passengers and crew could go ashore during the Black Death plague epidemic.[4
