To pray or not to pray

This is in regards to a posting I read concerning praying directly to our blessed mother. Now everything I have read concerning our mother of gods messages all seem to say she intercede a for us before her son Jesus. I see this clearly in the hail mary.. .Hail Mary full of grace pray for us sinners. She is asking us to ask us for her to pray for us. For me there is a big difference between praying to God directly. In other words God does not intercede for me but listens to my prayers and according to His will grants them. I love our blessed virgin but do not pray directly to her. Well this is my opinion and am curious on others views concerning this. God bless... Gary

All the great saints of the Church understood this one principle of the faith: To Jesus through Mary. Mary is co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate of all grace https://www.ewtn.com/library/MARY/coredemedadv.HTM
The surest way to God is through His Mother. Jesus had no problem going through his mother to enter this world and we must likewise return to Jesus through his mother as mediatrix of all grace. You are right though, there is a BIG difference in praying directly to God and going through His Mother. He cannot deny his mother anything she requests!! Her son's first miracle, even through he said:"It's not my time", was done because she requested his assistance at the wedding feast. Here is a story from a priest who was judged for hell and Mary's intersession saved him

Praying is simply talking to someone in heaven Gary. What child would not want to talk to his mother? What could ever be wrong for a child talking to her? It makes me so sad to see you write like this. I am sure it makes your mother sad too.

I regards two instances of Mary's influence over her Divine Son as very significant. When Jesus went missing at age 12 and they found him discussing sacred scripture with the teachers in the temple. All present were amazed at his knowledge. At that time he could have continued teaching and would have been an amazing witness of the Father's power. In fact He told Mary that He had to be about His Father's business. Our lady was distressed and He went back to Nazareth with them and lived in obedience to his earthly parents. Mary pondered all this in her heart. We have no other account of any miracles or extraordinary events from Jesus until The Wedding Feast at Cannabis. Our Lady, so to speak, called him into his public ministry. He protested His hour had not yet come but she persisted and told the servants 'do whatever He tells you'. Jesus duly obliged.
These 2 events demonstrate to me the power given to Our Lady over Jesus. He began his public ministry at her request and He gave her the comfort of being her dutiful and supportive son until she was fully ready to be part of his public life and let Him go.

Yes, I know these readings well. And this does show the influence she has on Jesus. She is blessed and has been allowed to help and intercede on our behalf for the conversion of sinners. God has sent her to help all of humanity. I thank God for her. She loves us much. God bless.. .Gary

The context of your post, Gary, seems to indicate that you did not quite mean what the above highlighted portion actually says. May I make a humble attempt at correcting?.

In other words God does not intercede for me but listens to my prayers and according to His will grants them. I love our blessed virgin but do not believe she directly grants them.

St. Louis de Montfort describes our bringing our intentions to her so as to present them to Jesus in this way:

It is as if a peasant, wishing to gain the friendship and benevolence of the king, went to the queen and presented her with a fruit which was his whole revenue, in order that she might present it to the king. The queen, having accepted the poor little offering from the peasant, would place the fruit on a large and beautiful dish of gold, and so, on the peasant's behalf, would present it to the king. Then the fruit, however unworthy in itself to be a king's present, would become worthy of his majesty because of the dish of gold on which it rested and the person who presented it.

Safe in the Refuge of the Immaculate Heart!

I pray to her especially for those who are not converted because the Blessed Virgin has been very much overlooked by many who profess to be Christian. She is the Mother of Jesus and obviously Jesus being the perfect loving and dutiful son that He is not only honors her but honors her wishes as we saw at Cana. He is the model for us in our relationships with our fleshly parents but He also warns that regardless of blood it is those who do the Father's will who are our true Mothers and Brothers and Sisters.
I also pray the Dolor rosary on behalf of those who are suffering because of the suffering that she experienced and carried in her heart and the mystery of it. Father Ripperger gave a talk on the Dolor rosary and Our Lady of Sorrows that is well worth a listen.

Gary, when a child (any child) has a problem they tend to ask their mother so that she can present it to their father to soften the issue. I understand this as I am a mother. So I too find it a blessing to ask and discuss things with our mother most pure. For as with all mothers who intercede for their children, she is our intersessor.

Many years ago I too had a problem with talking to Mary. Then one day while reading scripture I was "hit between the lookers" Jesus gave her to us! Wow, not only did I gain a brother in Christ, but he shares his mother with us. Thanks be to God for this wonderful gift, Mary most gracious, whose soul radiates love to all of her children. Hence my moniker, Mary's child.

I remember when I first came back to my faith and the love I found for Our Lady it was overwhelming but after a while I started to feel my feelings slipping and my love and time was focused on Jesus his divine mercy for example I took this in prayer and asked a priest because I felt I was loosing my love for Mary the priest quickly reminded me that I received a great grace my heavenly mothers job was done she pointed me in the right direction the rest is up to me
    Thank you Mother :love::love:

It’s a humility factor. We can always go to directly. But sometimes we pray with Our Holy Mother, Saints and Angels.

How much greater is your petition to God when others are petitioning for you.

I posted this to mainly hear others opinions on how they pray. It is interesting and educational to hear varied opinions on this. I guess most importantly is that we pray. Thank you for the replies so far. God bless. . Gary

There is absolutely no problem with praying to her or to any of the saints. Praying is just talking to them and asking for help. We do that with people on Earth. Why not after they have passed on?

If you were going into the hospital for an operation wouldn't you ask family and friends to pray for you? This is just the same thing except she is in Heaven and she has a lot more influence because she is so close to her Son.

We can also honor her and thank her for her intercessions. I think God loves that.

We do not worship her though. That is important.
