Pope Francis is changing the Lord's prayer from 'lead us not into temptation' to "do not abandon us to temptation". What next?

Italian Bishops To Alter Lord’s Prayer?
    December 11, 2018 by sd

    From Euronews:[IMG]

One of the most famous and widely-recited passages of the Bible is set to change, it’s emerged.

Proposals will be put forward to tweak the Lord’s Prayer, according to the Italian Bishops’ Conference. Instead of reading “lead us not into temptation”, the new version will say “do not abandon us to temptation.” The change will only apply to Italian bibles and will now be submitted to the Holy See for approval.

I feel kind of perplexed and sad when I hear things like this. I am not a theologian and so feel so very limited in expressing me unease. The people who propose this; the Italian Bishops; following the lead of the Holy Father himself are all highly trained theologians ; many of them scripture scholars trained in the original languages and so I think to myself, 'Well who ma I?'

But my unease centres on this thought. To say 'Abandon us not' , is not the same thing as saying, 'Lead us not'. God would never abandon us ; never. So then there is no need to request this we would be asking for something we already have. Something we are already promised. However God would and does test us like gold in the furnace. So asking that this testing be mitigated out of mercy seems a very real thing to ask.

But what do I know? As a very ordinary lay person I feel like I am left flopping about like a fish out of water with such goings on in the Church at the moment. But I feel so very, very, very uneasy at it all.

I do not know what to think as well and I agree God never abandons us. However, I do think there will come a time when the time of grace will end ( that is the time we live in now).

If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them.

This is my own thoughts and they could be wrong, but I believe God will only allow evil to happen so that good can come of it

When I was young, like all young people I longed for change and adventure. Now I am older I long for Tradition and certainty. I love the fact that each day is like the day before.

I am perplexed that people the same age as myself should be going down the road of constant change; Revolution even. For the young I can understand this but for older people like our Cardinals, Bishops and Popes this perplexes me.

They should be putting their slippers on. I understand that some change is always good, but as Vatican 2 indicated true change is Renewal and true Renewal is rooted in Tradition and grows from the past. It is never an innovation.

If you look at, say the USA at the moment six times as many people are leaving the Church at the moment as are joining. This is particularly true of the young who run from the Faith in droves.

I suppose the bottom line is; will changes like these encourage people to stay and new converts to join? If not , if they do not help in this why waste time and effort on these changes? Why not concentrate on things like Catholic, Authentic Catholic Education that might make a difference?

It reminds me of the Emperor Nero fiddling while Rome burnt. What good in having a, 'Revolution', if your house is burning down round your head?

I suppose that God had something to do with the election of Francis (even by just permitting those involved to do such a questionable thing) and so we obviously weren't praying hard enough that He wouldn't lead us into temptation!

Perhaps I am wrong on this, but my gut feeling tells me it is another attempt to change. This conditioning to change is a planned design to lull the average Catholic a sleep, so change is a constant and absolutes are now relative. As for me any my house, we will say the Lord's prayer the same as always.

By gaging my own church and those around ne, I think it is far greater than 6 to 1. I would say more like to 20 to 1 or greater.

Great comment. Conditioning is the aim, if the Lord's prayer itself needs changing because the Church has always been wrong until Francis' arrival, then anything is 'fair game'.

I was just checking out the statistics from Ireland there. The decline is mind blowing. Catastrophic. The roof has fallen in.

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2012/aug/08/end-of-catholic-ireland

'..the Irish are losing their faith quicker than most: seven years ago, 69% of Irish people described themselves as "religious": this has now fallen more than 20 points to 47%.'

The answer of our present leadership is to have a, 'Revolution' in making the Church more, 'Relevant', to the modern world. So support Climate Change Issues. Support Migrant issues. Support Gay issues. Play down abortion issues. Cool down on issues like divorce and remarriage. Support homosexual clergy and cover up abuse. Engage in radical theological and liturgical , 'Reform'.

    Will any of this help?

No it will bury us quicker, deeper and totally.

I don;t think any of this is an accident. It is a car wreck. But it is a planned car wreck. The people driving the car plan to wreck it.

God called his Church to holiness. Meanwhile, our church leadership is bending over and backwards to the globalist and their agendas. With no absolutes anymore they have bowed to things like the Paris agreement and the many other issues of the modern man. Who would have thought 5 years ago we would have a pope leading the charge?

In our Church this past weekend the call to dismissal for the RCIA initiates reflected what you are speaking of. Last year we had around 35 people attending RCIA and from the looks of things this year that number is maybe 8 people. 6 of which are comprised of one family. I realize this can fluctuate from year to year. W need to remember these families and people in our prayers. They are entering the Church in a time of great turmoil and uncertainty. The enemy is sure to make use of this time to attack and discourage them.
It was a joyous occasion and certainly brought a smile to my face especially to see a large family there. That said I was taken back by just how few there were compared to last year.
For the parish Advent mission the Church has brought in a priest from the Missionaries of the Most Holy Eucharist to speak with us and lead us in Adoration. It was absolutely wonderful and enriching. I went last night and look forward to tonight as well. One thing he said that struck me was that while giving his talk he referenced Saint Padre Pio and he referred to him as of course a great mystic of the Church. He paused for quite a moment, and looking at us said that with the state of things in the Church and to come the average cultural Catholic which the Church has been full of for many years will never survive. Only those who embrace and deepen their relationship with Christ, who themselves become mystics will remain.
I was deeply moved by this. Our parish has had Eucharistic Adoration for 37 years continuously. I finally signed up myself last weekend.
As for our house we will always pray the prayer we were taught and in turn have taught our children.
I pray that God covers each of us here in His Grace and especially all those who are entering the Church at this time.

Changing the words to The Lord's Prayer? Tell me it ain't so. I'm barely used to the new wording of the Nicene Creed we now use at Mass.

I am certainly no theologian either. I do know this though, I trust God. I believe that he is not well pleased with His Church and I also believe that we have exactly the Pope we deserve. I know I need to pray for Pope Francis every day and thank God for the adversity he has allowed us. If we persevere we will all be stronger and closer to Him for it.

Yes, we must pray for our Holy Father the Pope and ask God to Bless him..

..but not I think pray for his intentions. I am very dubious indeed about his intentions and thatof his advisors cum co conspirators. As Hamlet said,

'Something smells rotten in the State of Denmark'.

The Church in the west could very well collapse under this house of card(inal)s.

    Something rotten indeed:
