Ireland has fallen

David, our troubles stem from a lack of belief in the Real Presence. People won't bother spending time adoring what they believe is only a symbol.

The Church needs to get back to explaining that the Blessed Eucharist really is Jesus, even if that means constant reminders Sunday after Sunday until it sinks in.

“The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families…that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.”

Actions speak much louder than words.
No amount of explaining is going to convince those who do not believe when they can see that the Eucharist is not accorded the respect that our Lord deserves, by the priests themselves:
    - Having their backs turned to the Tabernacle throughout Mass.
    - Some priests do not genuflect after the consecration.
    - No concern for any particles that may drop to the floor while giving communion.
    - Having lay people, whose hands are not consecrated, give communion.
    - Having so many lay people walking up and down the sanctuary.

The sense of sacred has been lost with the Novus Ordo mass. :(

Well there are things that are beyond our level of control
Let us follow David Healy’s lead and make sure we do many Adorations
We can do our parts to give Our Lord the Adoration and respect which is within our ability and “pay grade”
I’m sure this reparation from us will console Our Lord
We still have the Real Presence

    The Mass is Golgotha.

Unfortunately most people aren't catechised any more and this IS the responsibility of our bishopric

How did you first come to believe? I’ll bet it was at a NO Mass

This thread is really about Ireland and praying for Ireland and doing reparations

Ireland, like the rest of Europe, is mission territory. It's a different kind of mission territory than your part of the world. In many respects the missionary work here is more difficult because so many people fit Fr. Malachi Martin's description of modernist Bishops of his time - they have lost the faith and don't know it.

Most of the things you mention have contributed to the current state of affairs but they are only part of it. My suggestion that every priest at every Mass should be telling the congregation that they are about to receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus would be a start. If the priests say it often enough and with conviction, it will spark the memory of some, hopefully many, people in the pews. Many have forgotten and nobody is reminded any more that, as DeGaulle said, the Mass is Golgotha. The sacrifice Jesus made for us has been swept aside with the emphasis on "the Lord's table" and talking about a "personal relationship with Jesus" which can mean anything the priest or the person listening to him wants it to mean. We couldn't get any more personal with Jesus than when we receive Him in the Blessed Eucharist but we need to be in a state of grace for that because if we aren't we couldn't get further from Him no matter how many charitable of social justice projects we are involved in.

Incidentally, unconsecrated hands did give Communion pre-Vatican 11. It didn't happen at Mass but in the days when priests didn't have cars, people were permitted to take Communion home to sick and housebound elderly relatives. It was rare but it did happen in the days when there were no EMHC's.

Anyway, all we can do is step up our own efforts, always mindful of our own failings. David's suggestion is a good one and I am seeing more of it in surrounding parishes especially in the run-up to the referendum. While I hope and pray that it will be enough, I'm conscious that no matter what we do it won't come close to the fidelity and devotion of previous generations. They prayed, trusted and waited for centuries and it only took us half a century to get ourselves into this mess.

And for info God does not do coincidence I have just found out that the planned day of prayer is also the feast day of Mary Help of Christians how can we fail with God on our side :):):)

The Feast of Mary Help of Christians is celebrated on May 24.

    View attachment 7888

The tradition of this advocation goes back to 1571, when the whole of Christendom was saved by Mary Help of Christians when Catholics throughout Europe prayed the Rosary. The great battle of Lepanto occurred on October 7th 1571. For this reason this date has been chosen as the feast of the Holy Rosary. In 1573 Pope Pius V instituted the feast in thanksgiving for the decisive victory of Christianity over Islamism.

Near the end of the 17th century, Emperor Leopold I of Austria took refuge in the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Pasau, when 200,000 Ottoman Turks besieged the capital city of Vienna, but a great victory occurred thanks to Mary Help of Christians: on September 8th, Feast of Our Lady's Birthday, plans were drawn for the battle. On September 12, Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, Vienna was finally freed through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. All Europe had joined with the Emperor crying out "Mary, Help!" and praying the Holy rosary.

In 1809, Napoleon's men entered the Vatican, arrested Pius VII and brought him in chains to Grenoble, and eventually Fontainbleau. His imprisonment lasted five years. The Holy Father vowed to God that , if he were restored to the Roman See, he would institute a special feast in honor of Mary. Military reverses forced Napoleon to release the Pope, and on May 24th 1814, Pius VII returned in triumph to Rome. Twelve months later, the Pope decreed that the feast of Mary Help of Christians, be kept on the 24th of May.

St. John Bosco (1815 - 1888) was a dynamic priest who founded the Salesian Order in the XIX century in Italy. His many prophetic dreams, beginning at age nine, guided his ministry and gave insights on future events.

On May 14, 1862, Don Bosco dreamed about the battles the Church would face in the latter days. In his dream, the Pope of those days anchors the 'ship' of the Church between two pillars, one with a statue of Mary (Auxilium Christianorum or 'Help of Christians') and the other with a large Eucharistic Host

St. John Bosco wrote about his congregation, the Salesians: "The principal objective is to promote veneration of the Blessed Sacrament and devotion to Mary Help of Christians. This title seems to please the august Queen of Heaven very much."

The Salesian Sisters of St John Bosco or Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, are the sister order of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

St. John Bosco, himself, on June 9 1868, dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians, the mother church of his congregation at Turin (Italy). The Salesian Fathers and their Sisters have carried the devotion to their numerous establishments.

Wow. No coincidences! Also Fr Heilman on his website Roman Catholic Man has a great article “I’m going In For Ireland!” And he gives 5 ways we can all “go in for Ireland”. He has been doing a Rosary novena to end May 25. But has other suggestions. I hope everyone will check him out.

    Yes, I understand.
My response just flowed from Dolours' post:

The following is an excerpt from an article that explains perfectly why the 2 issues are linked together:

"This is why the pro-life movement and the movement to restore Catholic tradition are ideal partners.
The traditionalist values above all what has been given, what is received from another.
The accent is never on our own doing and making, but on the loving custody of a treasure entrusted to our safekeeping.
Human life is the first and most basic gift from God in the natural order, entrusted to our hearts and hands.
The sacred liturgy is the first and most basic gift from God in the supernatural order, likewise entrusted to us poor sinners—indeed, nothing more precious has ever been entrusted by God to man.
We are pro-tradition for the same fundamental reason that we are pro-life."
