Booklady you can edit your post and just delete the link from it and that will at least keep people from going there directly from MOG. Most people have no idea about these sites. Both 4&8chan are deliberately not listed in most search providers precisely because of this. Its not that it is bad in and of itself, just completely neutral and unedited for content. I go there sometimes to read the messages posted on /pol (politics) but that is it. Solanus; Listen to me. I am not fear mongering. I retired as a senior software engineer after many years in IT. I have been around the block as a security engineer as well. If you want to end up unknowingly hosting child porn on your computer for others to download go right ahead and explore away on the chans. Or, maybe you will get lucky and they will only your computer to host a virus which executes a denial of service attack against some website in the future. It happens and it is not rare by any means. Also, people who go there unknowing of these things get dox'd as well. You know, the people we read about from time to time who end up with their homes no knock raided due to unwittingly ticking someone off, giving their info out on the chans and dark web. Hosting kiddy porn or having their private information stolen and bank accounts drained. The chans is no place for anyone not initiated AND EXTREMELY PARANOID regarding their security. An out of the box firewall or router is a speed bump to many people. Besides, the information there is nothing that is not coming out on twitter and YT.
Don, thank you for reply. I had no wish to offend you but you did raise my ire as you gave a blanket,(seemed sort of) advice to the poster to not visit some site. I am aware of intrusions on my PC but I have I think a good firewall. By all means tell people of the dangers but do also give them advice as to such. 4chan, 8chan are but means of information, wisely used they are valid places to visit. I do assure I'm not initated as you call it but I do look to learn. At my age of life I really do not care of just what it is people may have on me................Twitter, utube, giggle, wiki are liars of the first order..............Facebuk and such like are there by design........... No offence intended I do hope to assure you. Discernment, but above all, advice within.................Beannacht De eat.
Don, unfortunately I cannot because the edit feature is no longer there for me to edit the post. I contacted the moderators using the Report feature and the Contact Us below and left a message to moderation and Padraig. But thank you again for trying to help me.
None taken whatsoever Solanus and welcome aboard BTW. Just be very careful there and please take my advice not to click directly on any of the links people post there most especially. It is not a place where one can intrinsically trust others or at least feel somewhat comfortable in that you are not meant harm. That is my chief concern for those here who are not aware of (I knew I shouldn't have used the word initiated) the history of either of those sites. A lot of truth can be gleamed there too.
Don I am surprised to read this latest post to booklady ?: The world seems to be a strange thing methinks...............Surely the emperor has no clothes........
Solanus, I think there are other members of the Forum as well as Booklady who are very grateful to Don when we read these cautions. I certainly take it to heart. We certainly do not want to risk being poisoned by filthy internet sites when browsing. I would rather limit the searches and be safe. Besides you could spend months going back through old posts and videos right here on MOG. Peace and welcome to the Forum.
FWIW, lots of people have had something similar in their houses for years. Laptops and internet-enabled TVs. There was a case a couple of years back where it was revealed that a high school which had provided free laptops to students had an application on them that could turn on the laptop's camera on remotely. It was only to be used for tech support, but apparently someone was using it to watch the students in their bedrooms. Didn't hear much about it after the initial report. Likewise, before the election, there was a story that Trump accused groups of using the TVs in his hotels to spy on him. All the news anchors laughed; all the techies nodded their heads. Now even mid-line TVs are internet-enabled, and many of them include voice-recognition features. If it's internet-enabled AND has voice-recognition features, then that means it has a computer built in. If the voice-recognition features include the voice commands to turn on and off, then that means the computer is on ALL the time so it can pick up the voice commands. It is possible to hack into these TVs and allow the TVs to hear everything being said in the room and send it to a third party.
Twenty years ago I could remotely control a PC using backdoor tools with or without the users knowledge and spy on everything they did. Even in real time. Nobody then thought this was true when I told them. I was called a nut for even implying that they had no idea how intrusive or easily subverted these devices are. Consider the capabilities now. In a nearby town a while back a young woman kept having her phone camera and mic enabled randomly. She talked with her carrier, bought new phones, changed carriers, nothing worked. It turned out she had dated someone who had access to tools to tap into remote devices. You can guess who he worked for. I would venture that since 9/11 all web activity and any device capable of going online has been monitored to one degree or another and that information stored. Every single thing said and site visited. A great many of the companies we trust with our online activities subvert US privacy laws by hosting their servers in foreign nations. Like FB, Amazon, and Twitter to name just a few. They like to call this the cloud and love to get people on board using their services. Thereby end running around the 4th Amendment of the constitution and a host of laws meant to protect us from despots. The US government under the Obama administration had the records of every single service person or defense employee who has ever applied for a US security clearance of any level stolen by hackers. This contained ALL their information, drivers license, bank account info, social security numbers, addresses, phone numbers as well as the information of their relatives who also were listed due to the background check process to obtain a security clearance. Young people today do not know a time as many of us do before the advent of the internet. They do not understand why privacy is needed let alone key to the functioning of a trusting, free, and open society. The concept to them is completely alien. In fact, they want to put everything they do online to get followers and likes. If they don't they feel ostracized and persecuted by their backwards parents who just don't understand. Buy a new phone lately? Very few of them are engineered anymore to be able to remove the battery. The noose tightens, only we are the ones placing our heads in it willingly.
Don I am very ignorant about such things but our TVs are about 9 years old. Are they internet connected? Does Roku do this? I was on FB for about a year and then quit. I was just uneasy. Sadly it means it is hard to communicate with many friends. I have heard of people putting tape over the camera lens of their laptops. Not so crazy huh?
All one has to do is watch this video with Amazon's Alexa respond to a question "who is Jesus Christ" to which it responds "Jesus Christ is a fictional character, while communism, socialism are good things.
I doubt it AED, if they were you would need to set them up when you bought them. Mine is about the same age and it is not either. It seems the last 5 years was when all the TV's went so heavily this direction. A Roku though is connected to the internet and as well to your TV. Lots of people simply unplug their TV's now which helps to save on power use as well since they usually draw a little bit of power even when turned off. No, it is not so crazy, in fact I think it is prudent to try to keep your privacy as much as possible. Facebook does offer people a way to connect to each other and this is neat especially for those far away from one another. That said I think it is really not that great in any other case, we ought to spend real time in the real world with those who are important to us if we are able to.
Unfortunately, nothing is private anymore. Everything is stored at the NSA. Hillary's "erased" emails are not erased. The NSA has them.
Future of world chaos? And Maria Esperanza had said that it would begin in Venezuela: 'We loot or we die of hunger': food shortages fuel unrest in Venezuela As the country’s economic problems mount, towns and cities have been hit by an outbreak of looting and violence Amid desperate food shortages Venezuelans are picking up new survival skills. On the night of 9 January, for example, a hungry mob took just 30 minutes to pick clean a grocery store in the eastern city of Puerto Ordaz. By the time owner Luis Felipe Anatael arrived at the bodega he’d opened five months earlier, the looters had hauled away everything from cold cuts to ketchup to the cash registers. “It makes you want to cry,” said Anatael in a telephone interview. “I think we are headed for chaos.” Evidence for his prediction can be found in towns and cities across Venezuela that have been hit by an outbreak of looting and mob violence. Angry about empty supermarket shelves and soaring prices, some people are breaking into warehouses, ransacking food trucks and invading outlying farms. During the first 11 days of January the Venezuelan Observatory for Social Conflict, a Caracas rights group, recorded 107 episodes of looting and several deaths in 19 of Venezuela’s 23 states. But the figures don’t fully capture the level of desperation. Recent headlines from Venezuela read like notes from the apocalypse: MORE: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/21/venezuela-looting-violence-food-shortages
THIS IS THE ANTICHRIST SYSTEM HEADED OUR WAY FASTER THAN WE THINK. WE HAVE MORE PROBLEMS THEN JUST IN OUR CHURCH.
Remember the old movie, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"? The pods took over your self. There was the seed of the evil of today out there for a long time.
Thank you for the welcome. Indeed I do understand the caution needed on this net. I seem to care little as I don't use any MSM sources. Quite frankly I think they all have their own bought out agenda. I tend to look up alter sites and try to check facts as to links. I don't really care to worry as I have a reasonably good firewall which tells me if I am being hacked. Not so foolish though but to know we are all being monitored here in some form. Too old I am I think to worry about being watched. As I said in my initial post as to telling people to not use some sites on here, we should try not be too cautious. Also I have been a lurker on here for quite some time. I'm well aware of Don being a sharp sort, as indeed are most on here. I tended to follow certain folk on here as I lurked as I like most of what is on here. Some on here I would like to have a face to face with as I'm not all that good at memory. Oh well.............. Good wishes and blessings to all.........
