The Power of Prayer

  1. Hi all,
Here is another story of how Our Lady works.

Some years ago I was studying a degree course in a Dublin college. At the time I was suffering severe depression and was finding the going really hard, I had virtually no ability to concentrate. However, I used to spend hours in prayer before the tabernacle in the college chapel most evenings. I found it extremly peaceful from the torment in my mind. My study was beginning to suffer as a result of my poor concentration though.
One evening just before a new semester I was sitting in front of the tabernacle and I became aware of a statue of Our Lady fixed into the wall just above it, I thought it was strange I never noticed it anytime previously. I mostly pray with my eyes closed but after seeing this statue whenever I closed my eyes I could still see it, only this time it was glowing and there were streams of light coming from her hands down to where I sat. This continued for at least 3 evenings and in that time I was given indept knowledge of one of the sections in the upcoming semester. At the time I didn't even know what was on the curriculum so it was a complete shock a week later when a new lecturer walked into the the hall and introduced himself and his subject.
Some of his classes were almost word for word in what I had experienced with Our Lady, and at the exams I came out with top marks!
I had no idea what the name of the statue was until a few months later I was visiting Knock Shrine and I spotted a similar one in a shop there. I popped in and enquired what it was called. It was "Our Lady of Grace."

Awesome! Our Lady finds the most creative ways to get us to listen. What a joy!

    A real miracle.

It is touching that you went on praying even in your darkness. It must have touched Mary's heart too.

That's the discipline, isn't it? Very brave of you BC to 'let go and let God' while in the throes of darkness. Inspirational to say the least...

  6. Thanks Guys,

As I'm sure you'l agree, sometimes we just have to decide to believe and to act on that belief even when we cannot see any light.

    God Bless

That is so true, and is so hard to do...I think when we can do that we come to a turning point in our conversion, don't you think?

  8. Just to make a little update on the above story, the "Our Lady of Grace" statue was in fact the Immaculate Conception. I had made the De Montfort consecration to the Immaculate Conception some years previously and renewed it yearly, but in my innocence had presumed the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes was the Immaculate Conception!
