My mom died a year ago today. Please say a prayer for her. PRAYER OF ST. GERTRUDE THE GREAT ETERNAL FATHER, I offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, JESUS, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, especially for Carol Rose*, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen OUR LORD told St. Gertrude that the above prayer would release 1000 souls from purgatory each time it is said. *I added the part in italics Feel free to add the names of your own dearly departed to this thread. I'll pray for each one as I revisit this post.
Rain, I will hold the soul of your Mom in prayer, especially at Adoration tomorrow. Please remember my in-laws, Joe and Doris Murray. Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!
Mario, padraig, Kathleen and everyone: Thank you for your kindness. Mario, I prayed for your in-laws. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen. Ever since I was little we add that line to the before meal prayer. Most Catholic families I know don't. I was surprised when my husband (before we were married) slapped that same prayer on the end of grace. We're both of German descent, so I wonder if it's a German thing.
Rain, I am happy to pray for your mother knowing she is so close to God. I'm not sure if you've had Gregorian Masses said for her soul but here is a link: http://www.franciscanmissions.org/M_Gregorian_history.php A pious friend of mine actually has it in his will for his children to have him enrolled in 30 Gregorian Masses just in case they forget. Since you have such a strong devotion to the holy souls in purgatory you may want to consider joining the Friends of Suffering Souls (FOSS) http://www.knocknovena.com/ . I only discovered them after Bernie, one of the forum members, enlightened me.
Rain, this year has gone by so quickly I didn't realize you were at an anniversary. My prayers are united with those of all.
