While I'm inclined to agree that the EU will be significant in the fulfilment of prophecy, in latter years I've been more inclined to see it as being led by another Nero. I say in latter years because before that I had no interest in prophecy. I think that there's some link between the Treaty of Rome and the significance of 1960 in Our Lady's message at Fatima but I can't figure out what it is. P.S. I'm hoping to download St. Hildegarde's book this weekend so I'll be picking your brains on that.
The idea of it being led by another Nero is not, in point of fact, at odds with it first being led by a Constantine. Both were Roman Emperors and so it is perfectly possible that if the EU is to be overseen by the "return" of one that the other will come into play as well in due course. My understanding of the prophetic material indicates that Europe must be reunited again as it was during the peace which preceded the first coming of Jesus, back then by means of the Roman Empire (which spanned most of the continent of Europe). There are two Advents of Our Lord preceded by two eras of peace according to St. Hildegard (as well as the tribulation of Antichrist which follows it). The Roman Empire and its successor states fulfil the role of "katechon" according to the Patristics. The Roman Empire was necessary for the spread of the Gospel during the First Pentecost, as Origen tells us. An entity akin to it is necessary for the final spread of the gospel during the Second Pentecost. This is not to equate temporal powers with the spiritual, rather the case being that unity rather than disparate nations is more efficacious for the spread of the Gospel since it enables missionaries to tread safely across borders because of the free movement of people, ideas and so on.
Well if you're speaking of the EU and then also referring to UK from whence the GM could arise then there is something currently amiss with that...since BREXIT is eliminating UK from that "union" with others beginning to think along the same lines. And saying that IF he should come forth out of one of the individual nations now belonging to the group that's the same thing, well, I just don't think so. The UK idea was not mine but Macadamia's, I should note. I'm intrigued to hear why he/she thinks it is the UK - England is afforded some significance in the prophecies, so perhaps that is why he/she thinks so but it may be that somewhere in continental Europe is more likely. I'm genuinely intrigued to hear. I know that Emmett O'Reagan also believes, or rather regards it as most probable, that the GM will come from Great Britain. He basis this idea on the prophetic literature which as I mentioned does give an important role to this country. I'm open-minded on his ultimate place of birth. To me, the most essential characteristic with regard to his origins is that he is European. In terms of Brexit, many analysts believe that the UK will re-join the EU (if it does leave, which isn't a done deal yet believe me) given the economic fall-out (the EU is the UK's main export market and it relies on frictionless trade within the customs union). So if it is to be the UK (and I caution that it may not be) I wouldn't judge it by current realities. Brexit has actually strengthened the rest of the EU and it gave them a much needed "kick" to set their stall in order.

No I wasn't referring to you specifically.....perhaps should have said if "one" thinks, etc. Otherwise I would have used your comment in quotes. Sorry if misunderstood. I was just speaking to the current reality not to analysts' hopes for the future. Many more terrorist acts, esp. in UK or France and the EU's policies via force of the force, Merkel's threats against individuality, and just maybe the folks might begin to take self preservation a bit more seriously. While Merkel sulks against Trump and terribly fears Putin, it seems Macron is winning the personality contest at the moment. Surrounding walls of one kind or another ARE going up in those countries that have the guts to take a different stance for their people. And it's actually Trump who is giving them some hope for continuing to individually express themselves I think.

There is some evidence which could like the GM to the UK. As I said, I'm open to it although on a personal level I'm not "wedded" to the idea of him coming from any particular European nation. I admit to not knowing. Undoubtedly, Britain is going to prove crucial to the evangelization of the world during the career of the GM, that much we can say. This is confirmed by numerous church-approved prophets, as for instance Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser's famous prophecy concerning England from 1646. I am relying on a translation of his Visions below by Fr. Thomas Beykirch: "...“I stood in the year 1635 by the Danube, giving alms to the banished, and offering up prayers for the whole earth. I stood towards the north and the west, and my heart poured itself out in many lamentations before God, saying; ‘How long will the adversary hold this kingdom [Britain] in bondage, which swims with the blood of martyrs, spilled by that accursed woman, Jezebel [Queen Elizabeth I], as she wished to reign in the Church of God?’ And I heard at the same time that the lawful sacrifice would be intermitted for one hundred and twenty years; and on the other side of the sea I saw immense lands, and how peoples and tongues thronged together, and how the land was inwardly shaken by armies, as by an earthquake. The prodigious multitude I saw divided, and I beheld the king standing in the midst. St. John Bosco famously prophesied that a "warrior" would arise from a country in the North of Europe, which scholars such as Bernard McGinn have taken to be a reference to the Great Monarch or "Last World Emperor" figure that was so recurrent as a theme in apocalyptic literature throughout the middle ages: "...there will come a great warrior from the North carrying a banner and on the right hand that supports it is written: "The Irresistible Hand of the Lord." At that very moment there went out to meet him the Venerable Old Man of Lazio, holding aloft a brilliantly glowing torch. The banner then increased in size and turned from black to snow-white. In the middle of the banner, in letters of gold, there was written the name of Him who is able to do all things. The warrior with his men bowed and shook hands with the Venerable Old Man..." So that certainly helps us: if St. John Bosco is right we should look to Northern Europe. In 1608, Fr. Mancinelli reported that he had been visited by angels, who revealed to him the future destiny of England in a series of visions: "...He beheld regions laid waste by all kinds of tempests, and so desolated by thunder, lightning, rain, hail, hurricanes and dreadful earthquakes that their wretched inhabitants knew not whither to flee for safety; even the caverns of the earth afforded no refuge. Being thus beyond all human help, the Father saw them at length with one accord prostrate and crying to God for mercy; he next heard this voice from Heaven: "It is not so much your sins as the enormities of your kings and rulers that has brought you to this condition, and subjected you to such severe punishments. But now know ye that I will deal with you in mercy, and raise your Church to a dignity that it has never heretofore attained. You shall win over the Turks and heretics under my protection, and with manifest prodigies from heaven such triumphs and victories that will astonish the rest of Europe. Lastly, the central sanctuary of the world, which I first established in Jerusalem, and which at present hallows the city of Rome, shall be placed in your midst, so that all surrounding nations shall congratulate you on your happiness. These special blessings shall be bestowed upon you for the sake of the eminent merits of the saints of this kingdom, and the hardships and the sufferings they have undergone for My sake..." (Jesuit Annual Letter of 1605. "Copie of a revelation made to Father Julius Mancinelli, S.J., concerning the success of the Kingdome of England") This is confirmed, yet again, by St. Dominic Savio in a prophecy which has close affinities with St. John Bosco's, where like the "Venerable Old Man of Lazio" (who represents the Pope), the pontiff holds up a flaming torch to enlighten the British nation residing in spiritual darkness: One morning as I was making my thanksgiving after Communion, a very strong distraction took hold of me. I thought I saw a great plain full of people enveloped in thick fog. They were walking about like people who had lost their way and did not know which way to turn. Someone near me said: ‘This is England’. I was just going to ask some questions, when I saw Pope Pius IX just like I have seen him in pictures [he relates the Angelic Pops to the pontiff he is familiar with]. He was robed magnificently and carried in his hand a torch alive with flames. As he walked slowly toward that immense gathering of people, the leaping flames from the torch dispelled the fog, and the people stood in the splendour of the noonday sun. ‘That torch’, said the one beside me, ‘is the Catholic Faith, which is going to light up England.’” The conversion of "England" (a synonym for the whole of Britain outside the UK) is thus foretold in many prophecies to inaugurate the beginning of the Second Pentecost. Ven. Holzhauser appears to explicitly state that the "King" or Great Monarch will arise from there and first embark upon the sanctification of his own society before setting out to spread the good news across Europe, and then the world. The other prophecies are not so explicit, unless one interprets St. John Bosco's country in Northern Europe to definitely be Great Britain. I admit it does fit. So I believe that much is likely full-proof, with regards Britain's providential role in the evangelization, if one chooses to believe - as I do - the consensus of the credible prophecies.

For what it's worth: According to the United Nations, Northern European countries are Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. What was considered Northern Europe in time of prophecies might be different. So who from that portion of the world could also be that "scion of the holy race of the French kings"?

It's a classic goal in genealogical research to be able to demonstrate one's line back to Charlemagne. Many, if not most, Europeans descend from - but proving it genealogically with a paper trail is a bit trickier. So him being a scion of the French/German monarchies may simply mean that he is to be European. Then, when it comes to him being "King of Spain", "King of Italy," "King of Franks", "emperor of Europe"....a president of the EU would in principle be all of that, as Macadamia has already noted.

But "Northern" as previously mentioned by earthtoangels could have meant somewhat different things in different eras. But we can, at least, exclude some regions of Europe (i.e. central, south and east) even if the definition of the "North" is slightly arbitrary. But I do reckon that the climate and terrain can assist us in determining the North/South divide. We should not that St. John Bosco lived in Piedmont in Northern Italy. Might anything North of there been "North" to him? Or did he mean Northern Europe more specifically as in "it's grim up North" because of the cold weather! If we look at a map of the European Union with Italy in dark green: Piedmont is in the farthest northern portion. It's important to note that Robert Schumann, one of the founding 'father of the EU, could soon be declared Blessed or Saint. Pope Benedict declared him Servant of God in 2006, and his beatification process is advancing. Jean Monnet was another founder father with the other three (Schumman, Adenauer and De Gasperi) - he was the behind the scenes guy, maybe the most important of the four for the creation of European Coal and Steel Community. He was a Founding Father of the EU, also declared the Father of Europe by the EU Parliament of which he was its first President, and he does have a cause for canonization thanks to Pope Benedict XVI.
