    Vouthon,
If you do expand on the 5 ages which Saint Hildegard has defined in your post above, I think many here would be very interested. There appears to be a lot of overlaps with other prophecies which many members are highly interested in. I am looking forward to reading what you have to say about these ages. TY again.

PS- I do like hearing what the Doctors of the Church have said about the times we appear to be in and also about the end times.

I actually have a lot to say on those Five Ages with reference to her Scivias, Letters and Book of Divine Works...but I'll leave that to the thread specially designed for it, which I'll post tomorrow or the day after. I will be quoting from a range of her works relating to the Ages. She is very detailed regarding the signs associated with each.

I look forward to your comments and contributions on it! I agree that St. Hildegard deserves treatment in her own thread given the complexity of her thought.

I will likewise be posting more prophecies on this thread regarding the Great Monarch and Holy Pontiff from other prophets I haven't mentioned yet. All in good time.

    Vouthon,
This sounds wonderful. I have a quick question about Saint Hildegard's 5 ages, would they be describing Ven. B. Holzhauser's 5th, 6th and 7th ages in your opinion? This is what appears to be the case to me. In any case, I look forward to hearing more information about this.

Just to point out something with regards to Ven. Holzhauser and the GM: in his Commentary on the Apocalypse he makes an interesting reference to the GM as "that STRONG MONARCH whose name is to be 'the help of God'".

Do you guys reckon that this is meant in the sense of a titular name/epithet or could it actually be what Holzhauser thought his real name was?

For instance, could he bear a name that actually means "help of God," as in:

    AZARIAH עֲזַרְיָה m Biblical
Means "YAHWEH has helped" in Hebrew. This is the name of many Old Testament characters including of one of the three men the Babylonian king ordered cast into a fiery furnace. His Babylonian name was Abednego.
    Or:

    Given Name AZRIEL
    GENDER: Masculine
    USAGE: Biblical
    OTHER SCRIPTS: עֲזְרִיאֵל (Ancient Hebrew)
    Meaning & History
Means "help of God", derived from Hebrew עָזַר ('azar) "help" and אֵל ('el) "God". This was the name of three minor characters in the Old Testament.
Or perhaps even John a masculine proper name, cir. 1160, from Medieval Latin, Johannes, from Late Latin, Joannes, from Greek, Ioannes, from Hebrew, Yohanan (in full y’hohanan) literally, "God has favored,” from hanan “he was gracious.” /"God is gracious; gift from God; Grace of God", Grace literally being divine help from God to man.

Yes, I think that's a very good point.

St. Bonaventure and Ven. Holzhauser both came up with 7 ages of the Church, from Pentecost till the Eschaton, whereas St. Hildegard's Five Ages were dated from the perspective, looking ahead, of her own period in the 12th century and represented what she believed lay yet to be fulfilled in the future.

As such, her first age - that under the symbol of the Fiery Hound - would begin during the 4th-5th age of Holzhauser if you were to fit it into his model.

I thus agree with you that the substance of her prophecies relate to what Holzhauser knew as the 5th, 6th and 7th ages.

    Vouthon,
I am looking forward to what others state in answer to your question. The only thing that I have read about the Great Monarch's name was that he was referred to as Henry and I have no idea if that came from a valid prophecy or not. Maybe Marie Julie Jahenny stated that? I have been interested in what she has stated but I have remained cautious because she appears to have no backing from the RCC.

The "Henry" name idea, which I've looked into a bit, seems to have arisen from prophecies attributed to Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich but as far as I can tell a cloud of suspicion hangs over them due to the fact that a poet called Clemens Brentano, who interviewed her at length, wrote the two books based on his notes of her purported visions. The authenticity of Brentano's writings has been questioned and critics have characterized the books as "conscious elaborations by a poet" and a "well-intentioned fraud" by Brentano.

This is also the source of the description of GM having a limp. The Vatican does not endorse the authenticity of the books written by Brentano i.e. from Wiki

At the time of the Emmerich's beatification in 2004, the Vatican position on the authenticity of the Brentano books was elucidated by Father Peter Gumpel, who was involved in the study of the issues for the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints: "It is absolutely not certain that she ever wrote this. There is a serious problem of authenticity".[5][9][10] According to Gumpel, the writings attributed to Emmerich were "absolutely discarded" by the Vatican as part of her beatification process.[4]

For the reason described above, I would treat these texts with some serious caution - or rather a heavy pinch of salt, as I think that Brentano was a fantasist. Unfortunately, these "prophecies" have become very popular among lay Catholics and are in numerous books about the GM - Mel Gibson even used Emmerich's alleged revelations as one of the sources for his film The Passion of Christ.

I hadn't thought of that name, thank you!

Lazarus is a given name and surname. It is derived from the Hebrew אלעזר, Elʿāzār (Eleazar) meaning "God has helped".
This also gives us "Eleazar" and related names too, of course.

Lynn, Thank you for this link which states that, Bishop Fournier declared Marie-Julie’s stigmata and ecstasies were of a supernatural order. So it appears she had approval from a local bishop but I suppose that was as far as the church went. The following is from that link also:

The King is Named: Henry V. His Entrance into France, Contenders Will Fight for the Crown:
Marie Julie revealed (November 1874): “King Henry V will march first. Jesus Christ will show him the road. He will come from the East and will go to the South. The friends of the King will march after him. Mary seems to say that three kings vie for the crown, that, in the end, will remain with the legitimate King....”

This requires a lot of study which I have not done as of yet, it appears that Marie Julie Jahenny was told that Henry V will be raised from the dead in the future to assume the role of the Great Monarch. Coincidentally, member Sterph has pointed out that the name Lazarus, who was raised from the dead, means Helped by God which is what member Vouthon has stated that the Great Monarch's name will mean. This gets more intriguing by the minute. This is also from the above link:

Henry V: The Once and Future King?

Many saints and mystics of the church have foretold the coming of a Great Monarch. According to tradition, St. Remy (438-533 AD) who baptised the first king of France, Clovis I, received a vision wherein he was shown that in the distant future the last monarch of the kings of France would be specially revealed to the world and re-establish the Holy Roman Empire at the end of time. Blessed Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824) declared the Emperor would be named Henry, even the controversial and non-approved ‘prophet’ of the Renaissance, Nostradamus, mentions a Great King who will rule in latter times and provided the name ‘CHYREN’, a cryptic letter puzzle often interpreted as ‘Henryc’ or Henry. Curiously, Nostradamus also included the phrase ‘NE PLUS ULTRA’ in one of his prophecies with ‘CHYREN’, a Latin phrase meaning ‘nothing more beyond’ and also ‘the highest or farthest point that can be attained’. Of interest, it was foretold many times by the true mystics of the Church that the Great King and Emperor to come would be the last and greatest of the French monarchs, there would not be another like him, nor would another king rule after him.

As far as we are aware, there is no mention of the name ‘Henry’ again in the revelations of the Church-approved mystics, not until Marie-Julie. She was granted an astounding number of predictions concerning Henry, and what is more astounding, she apparently is the first mystic to declare the promised king specially chosen by heaven was already on the earth in her time. Our Lady confirmed on March 25, 1874 he was ‘Henry V’. That could be none other than the Count du Chambord, the last direct French descendant of the royal Bourbon line.
Member Vouthon is correct that Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich prophesized that the Great Monarch will be named Henry also, along with Notradamus. I am not saying that any of these prophecies are approved but I am merely pointing out what the Mystics of the Church site has stated about the name of the future Great Monarch. I have read some of Marie Julie Jahenny's prophecies in the past but I must have been focused on the 3 Days of Darkness at the time because this prophecy seems new to me.

:ROFLMAO: I was writing from my phone and unfortunately now it's too late to change it.

I read in the very interesting comments on that same news report that in Georgia there is a rising interest in restarting the monarchy too.

But overall, I find the that a possible monarchy in Russia could very much have to do with the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart. The way things are going on Europe, with an accelerating progressive secularization in France, Spain, Germany, Italy, etc, while a reaction against it continues to form, I don't think it impossible to see a portion of the European population somehow leaning more and more towards Russia for a sort of salvation!

@Vouthon - picked up this thread on Emmets site from a link you posted - much obliged.

Came here to have a level-headed discussion of the various prophecies (approved Catholic and otherwise) pertaining to this possible person.

My own analysis lends me to think that many of the descriptions of this person are allusions to various aspects of his life and history rather than personal descriptions.
For example, one of the points you doubt - the limp, impeded foot, damaged hip - is a spiritual attribute, received by Jacob when he wrestled with God at Peniel; It signifies a struggle with faith. (It also prefigures Jonah refusing/resisting/wrestling with God before he preached to Nineveh - one for Emmett there!)

However, it is used in further writings to indicate in some prophecies that he will 'mount his horse on the wrong side' - this mish-mash of attributes may indicate where he is actually from.

The other characteristic which seems to confuse many is the various 'royal' lines he hails from and the various places he will be king of....
There is of course an obvious way to resolve all these titles, it seems very few wish to do it because it doesnt tally with their personal views.

Some writing supposedly by St Hilarion states "The Lion (king/leader/monarch) will come from a high mountain in the Enlightened Nation between the Rhine and the North Sea".
Again this tells us two things about him.

There is more, but I'll have to look it up.

I have one question for you though...... why now?
Why this particular time to appear on various sites with this more.... academic approach?
Was there a delay or something incomplete in your studies, or is this a particular timeframe you think relevant?

    Macadamia,
Welcome to MOG! I am not certain that your questions are directed to me but I will give my answer since I started this thread. I also encourage anyone interested in this discussion to please participate. I think that many members here on MOG feel that we could be on the cusp of a huge change, possibly from one church age to another or something that people just sense from observations such as, cardinal opposing cardinal. The most telling sign for me personally is the possibility of the Revelation 12 sign, the Woman Clothed with the Sun, appearing in the heavens on Sept. 23rd. I started a thread to discuss this sign and to debate whether or not it is the sign spoken of in the Bible, it appears it may be so but there is no way to be 100% certain. Still it has my attention and many other people's attention worldwide.

So the question is then, if it is the sign from Revelation 12 then what is it exactly pointing to? Could it possibly be a sign of the advent of the Great Monarch and the Holy Pope. Well, the prophecies foretelling of a Great Monarch and a Holy Pope would then need to be true. So here we are discussing those prophecies and the validity of them.

Since I started this thread I did notice through searches that there have been similar threads on MOG already, if I had realized that originally I probably would have refreshed an existing thread. My point in mentioning this is that I believe that there is interest in this topic regardless of whether or not we are close to them occurring and I hope that you would like to join in the discussion.

  19. I can remember this topic of interest going back years ago in various blogs. One from 2005 for instance by Sandra Miesel (Catholic medieval historian) has this info:

......In the prophesied time of tribulation marked by wars and unprecedented natural disasters, the Church will endure worldwide persecution. The pope will "have much to suffer," harassed by outsiders and surrounded by staff made up of secret traitors. Eventually he will be forced to flee Rome over the bodies of his cardinals and meet. a cruel death in exile. The Church will be left leaderless for many months while three anti-popes contend for power in what Bl. Anna Katharina Emmerich called a "false Church" with invalid sacraments.

Finally, Sts. Peter and Paul will come down from heaven and chose a legitimate pontiff. He will be known as the Angelic Pope. Together with the Last Emperor or Great Monarch, a descendant of Charlemagne and St. Louis, the Angelic Pope will usher in a period of world peace. There may even be a series of five Angelic Popes, but eventually the world will drift back to sin and disorder. Then the Antichrist will appear and the world ends according to the Bible’s Book of Revelation.

Another blogger from 2010 mentions this prophecy (perhaps already mentioned on MoG).....I had always had the impression that this chosen Pope assisted by the "prince/monarch" would go from the purified "end" of this age, continuing into the New Age:

St. Caesar of Arles (469-543) was the bishop of Arles, France for many years. What I like about him is that he encouraged his lay faithful to read Sacred Scripture at home and to treat it with the same sort of reverence as one would treat the Sacraments.

"When the entire world, and in a special manner France, and in France more particularly the provinces of the North, of the east, and above all, that of Lorraine and Champagne, shall have been a prey to the greatest miseries and trials, then the provinces shall be succoured by a prince who had been exiled in his youth, and who shall recover the crown of the lilies."

The entire world will be affected by World War III. France and all of Europe from England to Georgia to Turkey to Italy back North to Scandinavia will be conquered by the extremist Muslim federation after God initiates his End Times. This war will cause a world wide famine, civil strife and death by various causes. The Prince referred to here is the Great Monarch before he is crowned to rule, hence the word Prince and not King. He is exiled in his youth due to World War III, yet he will return with the Allied armies initiating World War IV. At this point I will simply say that it is my opinion that his temporary exile will be in the United States. He recovers his crown in part by the great deeds of his war. Saint Caesar's prophecy continues:

"This prince shall extend his dominion over the entire universe. At the same time there will be a great Pope, who will be most eminent in sanctity and most perfect in every quality. This Pope shall have with him, the Great Monarch, a most virtuous man, who shall be a scion of the holy race of the French kings. This Great Monarch will assist the Pope in the reformation of the whole earth."

The Great Monarch will eventually reign over a large area of the world, yet his reign will be a good influence over the entire world. The holy Pope is the one known in other prophecies as the Angelic Shepherd. The reformation of the whole earth is what I will call the Era of Peace where the Gospel will have great success and the Church will rapidly advance in holiness, wisdom, and stature.

    tradcatknight.blogspot.com/2015/02/bl-elizabeths-prophecy-of-pope-benedict.html

The prophecies of Bl. Elizabeth Canori-Mora (1774-1825) concerning the future persecution of a pope have some interesting affinities with the rather profound words of Pope Benedict XVI at his inaugural address: "Pray for me, that I may not flee for fear of the wolves".

    angelqueen.org/2013/03/18/the-three-days-of-darkness-and-the-angelic-pope/

Really interesting one w/ more from Eliz. Canori-Mora:

    saw the pope:

“surrounded by wolves who plotted to betray him… I saw the Sanhedrin of wolves which surrounded the Pope, and two angels weeping… when I asked them why they were sad and lamenting, looking upon Rome with eyes full of compassion they responded, ‘Wretched city, ungrateful people, the justice of God will chastise you.’”

After seeing two angels crying out for God’s justice to recompense the actions of these “wolves”, Bl. Elizabeth then saw bolts of lightning falling down to announce the form of the future chastisement -which forms an amazing parallel to the lightning strikes which occurred just hours after Benedict XVI announced his abdication on 11 Feb, 2013:

Like furious wolves they scheme to pull the Church leader down from his throne.” Then she was allowed to see the terrible indignation these wolves aroused in God. “In terror I saw the blazing lightening bolts of Divine Justice fall about me. I saw buildings collapsing in ruins. Cities, regions and the whole world fell into chaos. One heard nothing but countless weak voices calling out for mercy. Countless people will be killed. [I saw that God was] extremely angry with those who persecute Him. His omnipotent hands were holding bolts of lightning, His face was resplendent with indignation and His gaze alone was enough to incinerate the whole world.”

  20. (cont'd from above comment)

As to what else is occurring around time that will necessitate the final acts of the age with the specially chosen Pope aided by the Monarch:

Bow your heavens, O LORD, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke! Flash forth the lightning and scatter them; send out your arrows and rout them! Stretch out your hand from on high; rescue me and deliver me from the many waters, from the hand of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
    (Psalm 144:5-8)

Note that the imagery in the above passage in Psalm 144 evokes not only imagery of volcanic eruptions "Touch the mountains so that they smoke!", but also that of a flood "deliver me from the many waters". (See the earlier post The Casting Down of Mountains for an overview of the many other passages in the Bible which connect the Second Coming with earthquakes, volcanoes and massive floods).
The above prophecy of Bl. Elizabeth, which describes "buildings collapsing in ruins" leading to worldwide chaos also mirrors the visions of Matous Lasuta during the Apparitions at Turzovka:

there will be terrible floods and other misfortunes through the elements (iii) there will be earthquakes and mountains will move (iv) Churches will collapse, houses will move and be carried away by the floods...

The prophecies of Bl. Elizabeth written on 7th June 1815 continue to describe further upheavals, where she saw:

“fierce wolves in sheep’s clothing, relentless persecutors of Jesus Crucified and His spouse the Holy Church…I saw the whole world convulsed, especially the city of Rome. How can I possibly relate what I saw of the Holy College? Because of contrary doctrines, together with the secular clergy, they were scattered, persecuted and murdered by the impious… The regular clergy had not suffered a total dispersion, but were also decimated. Countless men of all conditions died in the massacre, but not all were condemned, for among them were those of decent customs and others of holy life.”

    .........
On Christmas, 1816 Blessed Elizabeth saw Our Lady, who appeared extremely sad. Upon inquiring why, Our Lady answered, “Behold, my daughter, such great ungodliness.” Blessed Elizabeth then saw “apostates brazenly trying to rip her most holy Son from her arms. Confronted with such an outrage, the Mother of God ceased to ask mercy for the world, and instead requested justice from the Eternal Father. Clothed in His inexorable Justice and full of indignation, he turned to the world.
“At that moment all nature went into convulsions, the world lost its normal order and was filled with the most terrible calamity imaginable. This will be something so deplorable and atrocious that it will reduce the world to the ultimate depths of desolation.”
    (See here).

This irreversibility of God's impending wrath is also reflected in the words attributed to Pope John Paul II during the 1980 Fulda conference in Germany:

With your and my prayer it is possible to mitigate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it, because only thus can the Church be effectively renewed. How many times has the renewal of the Church sprung from blood! This time, too, it will not be otherwise. We must be strong and prepared, and trust in Christ and His Mother, and be very, very assiduous in praying the Rosary."
(See the earlier post John Paul II - The Third Secret and a Prophecy of a Mega-tsunami?)

It also recalls the words of Our Lady of Akita: "If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them".

On the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, June 29, 1820, she saw Saint Peter descending from heaven, robed in papal vestments and surrounded by a legion of angels. With his crosier he drew a great cross over the face of the earth, separating it into four quadrants. In each of these quadrants, he then brought forth a tree, sprouting with new life. Each tree was in the shape of a cross and enveloped in magnificent light. All the good laity and religious fled for protection underneath these trees and were spared from the tremendous chastisement. “Woe! Woe to those unobservant religious who despise their Holy Rules. They will all perish in the terrible chastisement together with all who give themselves to debauchery and follow the false maxims of their deplorable contemporary philosophy!

    .......
God will use the powers of darkness to exterminate these sectarian, iniquitous and criminal men, who plot to eradicate the Catholic Church, our Holy Mother, by tearing Her up by Her deepest roots, and casting Her on the ground.

The reference to those who seek to eradicate the Church can only refer to the secularising forces sponsored by Freemasonry (See the earlier post The Synagogue of Satan).

    Interesting portion:

“God will laugh at their malice, and with a mere wave of His almighty right Hand, He will punish the wicked. The powers of darkness will be allowed to leave Hell and enormous crowds of devils will invade the whole world. They will wreak great destruction and thus execute the orders of Divine Justice, to which they are also subjected. They will chastise man’s goods, families, towns, wretched cities, palaces, houses and everything else that exists on the face of the earth to the exact degree that God decrees…
“God will allow wicked men to be cruelly chastised by fierce demons, because they voluntarily subjected themselves to the devil and joined in his attack of the Holy Catholic Church…
“I saw the horrible prison, Hell. There I saw the devils that would be released on earth to carry their wicked destruction everywhere. They will decimate every place that idolatry was practiced to such an extent, that no trace of them will remain.”

    Next, referencing the Second Pentecost:

However, all will not end in this death and destruction. After these purifying punishments, she saw Saint Peter return on a majestic papal throne together with Saint Paul, who went through the world shackling the devils and bringing them before Saint Peter, who cast them back into the dark caverns from where they had come. “Then a beautiful splendor came over the earth, to announce the reconciliation of God with mankind.”

The small flock of faithful Catholics who had taken refuge under the trees will be brought before Saint Peter, who will “choose a new pope.
