There have been moments when I've thought an ignore button should be an option. I didn't realize it was there until this thread came along. I don't know if I'll ever use it, but I vote YES for keeping it.
I think most people want to keep the ignore button. Whci his fair enough. But now I look for it I cannot see it? Perhaps it is ignoring me??
I really am torn on this one. I like the option of having it if only for the following example. You are having trouble with someone's post and it is really troubling your spirit. Sure you could just not read that poster but then you see it and there you are reading it again. Maybe you are here for just a few areas but find yourself getting wrapped up into other conversations. Having the ignore button allows you greater flexibility and is really and "out of sight, out of mind option." On the other side of it I agree with the stances taken to also get rid of it. I see its benefits and its drawbacks. I think I will abstain from voting on this since I really can't decide. I, as a moderator, would never use it because that would not make much sense.
I hope given the results we keep the ignore button. Many stated it was used for posts that disturbed them spiritually. In some ways it has helped me retain my peace.
My understanding is that we are supposed to see Jesus in everyone no matter how much they offend us. But if we do end up keeping the ignore option I intend to use it.
I can think of few things more callous and unChristian than 'ignoring' someone. It is rather presumptive to imply that they have nothing of value to tell you, and, conversely, if they're in error, point it out, and if they persist, don't keep talking to them...but scanning a post to see if it's drivel shouldn't damage your faith. We weren't put here to bury our talent in the ground and wait for the Boss to show up again. I would be fine with saying we should be stricter with people who disparage the Pope, but it seems like people who do this generally already have their accounts deleted.
Passing judgement on people who can't handle obnoxious remarks, and want to avoid bad company does not seem Christian to me. The ignore button has been the reason I have been able to continue to enjoy MOG forum. And the offender does not even need to know, as far as I am aware. So lead us not into temptation is not a sin in my book.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh, now I see both sides of the argument, why are you doing this to me, Julia?!
