Ignore Button

We are all on the same ship,with pope Francis standing at the helm. Please, don’t throw eachother overboard.

 

I do use the ignore button. I use it because this forum is no longer moderated the way it was a few years ago in terms of how people are allowed to respond to each other. There was a time when attacks and posts dismissive of others were not tolerated. Today uncharitable posts and personal attacks are allowed (in both extreme camps of the pope can do no right and the pope can do no wrong). So, if I feel someone is being dismissive of other posters with a different point of view or if it is stated someone has no credibility for whatever reason, I ignore them for a while. In fact recently someone complained about a rude post on a thread (I forget which one) to John, and he said that is what the ignore button was for. So, it is a way to not read uncharitable and dismissive posters.

I also hit ignore for awhile if a thread is just going nowhere or if it has gone over my line with uncharitable posts towards the pope or if I feel arrogance is in play. Usually a point can be made pretty quickly and I don't need to read endless articles or posts about it. I ponder it in my heart and take it to prayer and respond accordingly. When a thread gets to beating a dead horse, I ignore some posters since it is just beating a dead horse at that time.

I hope others don't interpret this as willful ignorance. We will not all get the same response in prayer to a particular situation. I hope this forum accepts other responses to the challenges we are all facing in the church. It seems sometimes other responses to a situation are deemed as wrong, when in reality, we are just responding to a challenge in a different way.

And the ignore button is a very handy and flexible feature. You can still read an ignored posters posts at any time on a thread. and it is easy to remove someone from your ignore list. I personally don't care if someone ignores me. You might want to check your pride if it bothers you.

 

That's how I feel. Use the ignore button or don't bother reading some posts. Sometimes people insert quotes from their favourite mystics or prophets that I don't believe in and I just skip over those posts. If you don't want to hurt someone's feelings, ignore them without making a public announcement about it.

Did you have a warning dream about the forum or a dream about the warning/illumination of conscience?

 

I think with prayer the forum will survie, without prayer the forum will die. It is as simple as that.

I can only aford the time to goonto the forum for an hour or two everyday and I have not time to read anything but a small percentage of all the posts. I could not even if I wanted to moderate everyone and everything. I have to accpet that people are adult and Catholic and not taking hatchets to eack other.

But these are highly charged times and people wil lsay highly charged things. Ithink it is inevitable.

I recommend not using the ignore button as I think it is an act of profound uncharity. We are to love people, not turn our backs on them. If there is no interest on a particular thread there is no need to read it.

 

As far as I can see the forum keeps ploughing along nicely .

On a completely unrelated note, am I the only one who thinks that the coffee emoticon looks like an old dude with a beard screaming and shaking his fist?

 

I prayed for forum members at Mass today. I also don't like to see the threads descend into a lot of squabbling. I had a few ideas. When someone posts a topic or article that is cause for heated discussions, limit the debaters to two rebuttals per person and then they have to refrain from that thread. I still think that the 'like' option fuels pride. If a poster heartily agrees with a post, let them log in and add to the discussion. Please, if you feel in your heart that a certain post will cause too much fighting, don't post it. It will save a lot of venial sins to just say no to the impulse. One of the points of examination of conscience at our confession time is, "Are you responsible for starting fights in the family?" That is not to say that anything controversial should not be posted, it is just to say that if you are in the mood to argue, posting at the forum should not be your outlet for that. I also thought it may be helpful for the forum to have a dedicated portion to list approved apparitions, condemned apparitions and under review apparitions as a quick reference check for visitors.

I am glad Padraig explained how he is only able to monitor posts for a limited time each day. Thank you Padraig for keeping this site going.

We all know the old saying, when the cats' away, the mice will play. And we don't want to be rats, mice maybe. I don't think Padraig has a cat.

 

OOOPPPSSS. And I support keeping the ignore button.

 

I am afraid I do not have the time to moderate very strcitly, now would I want to. If someone were a troll it becomes obvious pretty quick as trolls are a breed totally apart.

People are not trolling or going out of their way to be nasty, the dispute centres around what folk think about Pope Francis and the present Pontificate. It is natural that people should have strong feelings one way or the other, for how could they not?

There was a time I thought of banning simply any discussion about Pope Francis or the changes in the Church generally, but that would have een very wro The only thing I can advise is that if particular threads are umpsetting or distracting to avoid them.

I really want to concentrate on prayer and mysticism myself, but with moderating some of this I don't seem to get much time anymore. I had a stray thought the other night wondering who the next Pope will be? How interesting it will be .

The Chinese have a curse, 'May you live in interesting times'. Well we seem to be living in the most nteresting time for centuries.

 

Ya...i don't get it. I still think edit button needs at least 24 hours.

And if you remove ignore button...you are forcing people to view things that might affect them spiritually.

I have never used ignore button but i will say... i should have many times.

Making changes might be fun but sometimes some things should just stay the same. I get the delete button could mess up the threads but it only happened a few times.
